We have another project due in two weeks… Effie White!
I forgot to tell you about another project that is currently assigned to me. The day after Christmas, the fashion consultant for our project and I went to see a movie - ‘Dreamgirls’. It was a great movie and specially Jennifer Hudson’s noticeable ‘Oscar-worthy’ role as Effie White.
The rendition of ‘And I Am Telling You’ was absolutely refreshing. Just imagine us watching the scene surrounded by beautiful and sophisticated African-American women! Literally, the family of women surrounded our seats and they were very pleasant and endearing to say the least. However, when the scene came up for Jennifer Hudson to perform her solo with this song…we couldn’t help but go with the little whispers of ‘You go girl! Uhuh! Yes gurl!!’ and at the end of the song, they clapped and we clapped as well.
During the whole time, we already imagined one of our friends singing this song. You see we have this event called ‘Jaded Lounge‘ every second Friday of the month. People perform lipsync renditions of different songs by different artists. Mind you, several years ago, the reigning Miss Jaded Lounge was a Filipino, who won the contest with the rendition of Lea Salonga’s song plucked from her role as Kim from ‘Miss Saigon’. Those were exciting times for Filipinos in and around the area. But, since then, we haven’t had a Filipino perform so we normally (not intentionally) ignore the shows when we’re there.
A Brief Update on the PRADYEK…
Hello everyone! I’m going to write this blog entry in Tagalog as it will have more impact than relating it in English.
I’m soooooooooooo glad I didn’t post the AFTER pictures just yet. We still have a lot to work on. Paano ba naman, kailangan pala ang pradyek ay hindi lamang concentrated on the ‘outside’. Ika nga ni BarbeRoss, we should work on the inside as well. That includes grace in her movement, eloquence in her speaking, and confidence in her attitude. This will not be a successful project if these weren’t so.
Kagabi ang first demonstration ng ating sabdyek. Nagpunta kami sa lounge para mag-happy hour. Tinawagan ako ng sabdyek at inimbitahan ako sa happy hour. Without any hesitation, I went. It was fun – - great time with good friends and a lot of laughs.
Pero ito ang nangyari. We must have consumed approximately 6 to 7 martinis dahil sa mga kuripot kami at hinahabol namin ang happy hour event na hanggang alas siete lang. Nang dumating kami sa lounge eh bandang alas sais beinte na no?! Kaya ayun, parang tubig naming ininom ang mga martini. Sa kalahating oras, may pito yata kaming nainom. Kuwentuhan, tawanan.. ngunit ang ating sabdyek na under training.. naging malakas daw ang pananalita. Hindi ko naman ito napansin kaya wa ko kiem!Â
Mga bandang alas siyete y medya, nilapitan ako ng sabdyek at sinasabi niya sa akin na hindi raw siya nag-i-spit ng babulgam sa sahig. Hindi ko siya maintindihan, kaya I didn’t know the relevance as to why she is mentioning this to me.Â
Makalipas ang mga cinco minutos, aba, dumating na ang isang waiter sa lounge at pinatatalsik kami! Unang unang pinalabas ang sabdyek! Hmmm – sa hukuman, sino kaya ang nagsasabi ng totoo? Dahil sa mahal namin ang sabdyek, sabay sabay kaming naglabasan at lumipat ng venue.
Hanggang sa labas, pinipilit sa aking ng sabdyek na hindi raw siya ang dumura ng babulgam sa sahig. Pinakita pa niya sa akin ang babulgam sa bibig niya. Pinaniniwalaan ko namang di hamak ang ating sabdyek. Siguro pina-alis kami dahil sa sobrang saya namin at tawanan kami ng tawanan sa loob ng lounge and we were disturbing the peace of the people dining there – O kaya, nahalata yata ng may-ari ng hindi na kami bumili ng drinks after 7:00 – nahalata ang pag-ka-ghetto namin.Â
Kaya siguro, isasama namin sa curriculum ang ‘PAGBULONG’ kung bangagacious ka. Â Kailangan pa ng kaunting refinement ng aming pradyek..
Sa tingin ninyo? Sabihin ninyo kung ano ang ‘feel’ ninyo sa mga nangyari? Sino ang tama? Si lady-in-training ba? O’ ang istablisment?! Buti na lang at naghintay pa ko ng another week bago i-reveal ang ating resulta…

DAVOS, Switzerland (AP) – Chad Hurley, co-founder of YouTube, said Saturday that his wildly successful site will start sharing revenue with its millions of users.  Hurley said one of the major proposed innovations is a way to allow users to be paid for content. YouTube, which was sold to Google for $1.65 billion in November, has become an Internet phenomenon since it began to catch on in late 2005. Some 70 million videos are viewed on the site each day.“We are getting an audience large enough where we have an opportunity to support creativity, to foster creativity through sharing revenue with our users,” Hurley said. “So in the coming months we are going to be opening that up.”Hurley, who at 30 is one of the youngest Internet multimillionaires, gave no details of how much users might receive, or what mechanism would be used.In October 2005, Revver – which like YouTube offers video clips online – announced plans to attach advertising to user-submitted videos and give their creators a cut of the profits. Revver has said it would split the ad revenue evenly with content creators.Hurley said that when YouTube started, he and the site’s other co-founders – Steve Chen and Jawed Karim – felt revenue-sharing would build a community of users motivated by making money, rather than their love of videos.But that as the site has grown, the three, who continue to run the company, have come to see financial remuneration as a way of improving content.Hurley spoke on the last full day of the World Economic Forum, which brings together the world’s political, social and business leaders for a five-day gathering on the problems facing the world.

I was reading Tita Bea’s blog tonight. One of the blog entries there was about a few minutes before new year where she was worried about her pup, Nemo. Apparently Nemo is afraid of the rumbling sounds of firecrackers when midnight strikes in Manila. Some of you may not be able to relate but, New Year’s eve in the Philippines is sooo much fun. If you read Reyna Elena’s blog after the New Year – you would see the videos he took. We welcome the New Year by setting off a gazillion firecrackers. Not sure if this was a tradition from the Chinese. Don’t get caught on the streets before it hits midnight because you will never be able to leave at least until after 2:00 a.m. when the explosions cease.Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent there. I saw a picture of her little pup, Nemo!!! Very cute and adorable. So, I guess inggitera ko so I’m going to post my baby’s picture here too! He was also named after a Disney character, Simba. Choices… ‘The Greatest Miracle in the World’
Has anyone among you read this book? I was in senior high school at the time, with a girlfriend mind you. She’s beautiful, smart, and like me – very spiritual. Someone lent her a book entitled, ‘The Greatest Miracle in the World’. She was deeply moved by it and wanted to share it with me. I took the book home and in that one night, I finished it from cover-to-cover (only 108 pages). The opening chapter mentioned St. Francis – and since he is my favorite saint, I was easily hooked. That was the catch. After the opening, I just turned the page continuously and before you know it, I was done. SInce then, Og Mandino has become one of my favourite authors.
If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to do so. It will definitely change your life for the better. One part of the book rings very true to me and I would like to share it with you all. Here’s an excerpt from the book, a section called ‘The God Memorandum’ – a memo from God to you:
‘How could one improve on a miracle? You were a marvel to behold and I was pleased. I gave you this world and dominion over it. Then, to enable you to reach your full potential I placed my hand upon you, once more, and endowed you with powers unknown to any other creature in the universe, even unto this day.
I gave you the power to think.
I gave you the power to love.
I gave you the power to will.
I gave you the power to laugh.
I gave you the power to imagine.
I gave you the power to create.
I gave you the power to plan.
I gave you the power to speak.
I gave you the power to pray….
Thus we come to the fourth law of success and happiness…for I gave you one more power, a power so great that not even my angels possess it.
With this gift I placed you even above my angels…for angels are not free to choose sin. I gave you complete control over your destiny. That was one of my favorite parts in the book. As I age, I try to take a peek behind me and ask, ‘What have I done in the past?’ There are many times along the path where I saw myself making the wrong choices. Choices that if given me today, I may choose to go the other way. But that is not the point. The point is to look at the choices I’ve made and its outcome. Was the outcome to my benefit? To my demise? I then take the lesson learned from that ‘choice’ and base my future decisions from it.

You see, we have a friend who’s beautiful, intelligent, and one of the nicest person you would ever wanna meet. But there was something wrong. She would always complain why she’s not with anybody. Listening to her was agonizing as we know that the issue doesn’t lie with her personality or even her character. We told her that it’s because of the way she publicly carried herself. She remained in a different mindset. It’s from a culture where lesbians who acted like men (butch) are much deemed more attractive than the ‘lipstick lesbians’.
From where she came from, she had to hit women with a stick to get off of her because they preferred that she looked like a man. However, she is wondering why she is not as wanted where she is now. It is a different culture here in the US. We told her she needed a change. It is obvious. She wore big shirts, and cargo pants with matching large men’s jackets. She looked older than she is because her hairstyle didn’t meet her age.
We took a quick look and made her our project. We were going to transform her into someone that would conform to the looks of today. We will bring her over to the time that she needs to be. Update her style to be exact.I don’t want to blab on longer than I should – you all get the point. So here’s a picture of the “BEFORE”. As we work on her appearance and her confidence, I will make entries here and two weeks from now – I will post what has become of our dear friend… the AFTER picture.
So wait and see okay? I will reveal who she is as well during the posting of the AFTER pictures and provide where credit is due. To our Fashion Designer Extraordinaire – strut your stuff!!! And for my viewers, you just have to come back in two weeks.

It’s 4:16 in the morning…
This is totally crazy! I have tried to set aside some time to work on a blog. There are lots of things I want to say but I am not very good with words. I finally decided to create this blog and I started at 11:45 p.m. LAST NIGHT!!Â
This is not rocket science but it still has a lot of configuration that you need to understand and such. I want to make sure that it appears okay when I preview the site. Are the links visible? Do I have the proper category setup? Whew!Â
I’m off to Atlantic City, NJ at 1:00 p.m. to celebrate my brother’s birthday with him. A semi-reunion with my sisters as well. Wish me luck! I need some dough.
