I have heard it a few times already – - I heard that Oprah Winfrey noticed and when she notices something, it has to be good. It’s all about ‘The Secret’! What is ‘The Secret’? User-Generated Content – - How far will it go?

While some critics are dismissing user-generated content as amateur and rife with licensing issues, marketers and advertisers are exploring various business models to generate revenue. These include product placement, sponsorships and contests. We hear from Charlene Li Principal Analyst at Forrester research, Andrew Keen, author of ‘Cult of the Amateur’, and ZDNet editor-in-chief, Dan Farber. Source

We, as bloggers are defined to be the mobilizer of advertising these days. There are certain aspects of user-generated content that is appealing to the masses. We are being embraced by marketers all across industries.

As it stated on the ZDNet podcast, Motorola was awarded for its use of marketing using user-generated content. Once they saw a video of two chinese students singing to the tune of Back Street Boys, they were interested in using them for the ad campaigns. The result? These two guys are now considered celebrities in China once they were tapped by Motorola to appear on their ad campaigns.

The potential is endless as advertisers look for individuals with certain niches. Take Bryanboy.com for example. He’s been featured in so many publication for his unique content that the world has embraced or despised! The same goes for Perez Hilton, the notorious celebrity blogger who probably earns quite a good penny from his blog and has had the chance to meet the celebrities that he bashes on his site. Another one is Happy Slip, a Filipina whose videos are so entertaining, she gets over a million views on her Revver and You Tube videos. These are prime examples of what power user-generated content could do and companies will take notice.
Another example is the experiment created by two amateur film makers that created the ‘Mentos & Diet Coke’ Experiment on You Tube.

The experiment has generated a lot of hype and the producers were given a 50/50 share of revenue once taken by Revver.

Google has generated popular advertising medium through it’s adsense program. Such blogger greats as Problogger, Shoemoney and John Chow has generated so much cash that ordinary individuals are encouraged to generate their own content and take a piece of this ‘cash-pie’ such as yours truly as you can see from my previous post.

There is so much to be made and it only takes time before Fortune 500 companies take another look at user-generated content to advertise their products.

So, what are you waiting for?! Start generating your content – - be it your own, or public-domain content. This is the age of user-generated content.

Something to be concerned about: Where you’ll see $4 gasoline

Thursday April 26, 12:56 pm ET
By Steve Hargreaves, CNNMoney.com staff writer

Gasoline prices, already above $3 a gallon in some states, could charge higher this summer and hit $4 a gallon in some locations, according to one industry expert.

Pump prices were supposed to peak below $3 a gallon this May, then drop off before the summer driving season got into full swing, according to the Energy Department’s price forecast.

Well, we’re not even out of April yet, and the nationwide average price for a gallon of unleaded regular has hit $2.87. Read more

Joross, Bianca revealing photos hit the Net

joross_bianca.jpg

Early last year, sumabog ang mga cell phone video scandals ng mga artista na unang umikot sa mga Internet groups, sites at, blog na pinick-up ng mga manunulat sa diyaryo at pati na rin ang mga showbiz talk shows sa TV.Most of the stars involved categorically denied na sila nga ang mga nakunang hubad, the likes of Karel Marquez na nakunan supposedly nang nakahubad sa Boracay. But some hoping for that proverbial 15 minutes of fame actually admitted it was them on the video, tulad nina Cedric Carreon na kinunan daw ng sex partner at si Teri Onor na umiihi sa toilet bowl.

Nagkaroon ng clamp down sa TV ang mga video scandals nang pinag-initan ng halos lahat ang isang sex video ng dalawang lalaki na ang isa raw ay si Piolo Pascual. All the showbiz talk shows decided to stop reporting the burgeoning new type of high tech scandals.

In closer view, mayroon namang suot si Bianca, skin colored nga lang and parang see-through ang underwear niya.

Today, April 24, isa na namang picture ang umiikot sa mga gay Yahoo groups, that of Joross Gamboa. Self-picture ang litrato ni Joross na naka-topless at mababa ang kaniyang red shorts that shows his hair below his navel. Noticeable din ang umbok sa kaniyang shorts.

Sinubukan naming i-text si Joross to comment on this at para maitanong na rin namin kung paano ito nakuha sa kaniya.

Technorati finally reinstated my claim to my blog www.chuvachienes.com!! hurraayyyyy!!!!

As you may all know – - about four posts ago, I was just so frustrated with Technorati in trying to claim my blog.  My blog juice remained at .5 which was very intriguing for me since I have over 12K in site visits and recorded a very low rating with Technorati.  The main issue was that somehow, when Technorati was cleaning up house last month or two months ago, my domain of http://chuvachienes.com was flagged for review.  This removed all my Technorati ratings which included which blogs linked to me.

I have numerously tried to re-claim my blog but to no avail.  I have written support ticket after support ticket.. visited as many sites that I can to find out how I could reclaim my blog – including Wordpress Guy who has absolutely been very helpful and tried to help me as well with few instructions to boot.  But still nothing.  Read more

Love across language barriers and race.. we still understand

I was reading Diwatang Byaning’s blog and I saw a video she posted that really caught my eye.  I absolutely loved it!    It simply tells us that LOVE can be understood no matter what, where and how.  I  was going through clips  on youtube.com looking for romantic vids like Diwata’s and I found this – - and I wonder what you think?  Is this love or stupidity?

I thought that even if I couldn’t understand the words of the song, I  still understood their story.  It was touching yet, I don’t know!!  I can’t detect whether I should be pissed or should  I be saying ‘awwwwwww, that was soooo sweeeet!!’… you decide!  View the video and post your comments… I really want to know…

FOUR JOBS I HAVE HAD
1. Gas attendant – sa 7-11. Hindi ako nag-pa-pump ng gaso no? I just enter the amount to preset the pumps to how much gas the customer would like to purchase. Ang masakit dito, every so often, I have to sweep the parking lot. I started during the ‘FALL’ season here in the U.S. – - umiiyak ako habang nagwawalis ng dahon sa parking lot! Shempre, college boy from U.S.T., tapos naging tagawalis ng parking lot!!!! Read more

‘Harry Potter’: She’s Unpretty in Pink

I will post this HELP sign on every post until I can claim by blog on Technorati!!!  I can’t seem to find the right answer as to why I can’t claim my blog.  I’ve submitted two support tickets already but nothing yet… HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

April 16, 2007 issue – The first female villain hits Hogwarts in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” Imelda Staunton, Oscar-nominated for “Vera Drake,” plays Dolores Umbridge, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. A year before Staunton got the part, a friend suggested she would be perfect for it. “I read the book, and Umbridge is described as a short, ugly, toadlike woman,” Staunton says. “I thought, ‘Oh, thanks very much’.” Staunton plays her as an apple-cheeked schoolmarm—drenched in pink angora—who is restricting freedoms (and free thought) to “protect” the students. “There can’t be any mess or any individuality,” Staunton says. “But, of course, that leads to brainwashed people.”  TO SEE PREVIEW VIDEO – KEEP READING THE ENTRY Read more

Should I be annoyed at Technorati?!

It’s been almost a month since my blog listing disappeared from Technorati.  It was working fine since January, then all of a sudden – - it is no longer listed.  I have several blogs and I have no problems with the others yet, the one with the highest traffic is the one that disappeared from their list!

Everytime I try to claim my blog – I get a response of, ‘There was a problem claiming your blog.  Please try again in a few minutes.  You can also go to Technorati Help for help claiming your blog.

technorati_error1.JPG

I have been to the Technorati Help, I have read every possible reason why my blog cannot be claimed and none of them applies to me.  I sent multiple messages to support and still have not received any response, I’ve pinged my site multiple times!  I added pings and lots and lots of pings.. and still to no avail.  Read more

I am just soooooooooo tired of Internet Explorer – - Grrrrrr!!

I read a lot of blogs — I browse the internet from dusk till dawn… the one thing that bugs me is whenever I’m reading a really good blog (www.johnchow.com) when all of a sudden, my browser freezes and for no absolute reason I get this:

 ieerror.jpg

This happens to me all the time when visiting www.bryanboy.com, www.reynaelena.com or even www.problogger.net.   So today, I decided that I will make my default browser to be FIREFOX!    It’s absolutely great – - once I switched, I never see these stupid errors anymore and I could browse freely to my heart’s content.  Thanks GOOGLE!

If I were you – - and this happens to you waaaaaaaaayyyy to often – - switch. You will be glad you did!

Me? An entrepreneur? Maybe…

I have tried many ‘rakets’ online and otherwise.  I started a balikbayan box consolidation when I lived in Maryland.  I also sold garments to co-workers while I had a contact at New York’s fashion district back in the early 90’s.  I even went as far as getting a ‘online-order-regalo’ which has now been perfected by Forex.  Many ideas, many attempts and yes there were failures but nonetheless, it shouldn’t stop you from becoming an entrepreneur.

Many successful individuals have failed with great ideas.  I am no exception.  Then, a friend introduced me to eBay.  You can review the full story by Reyna Elena on his blog entry.  I became a Powerseller within a few months.  That was exciting.  However, eBay’s fees kept on getting higher and higher.  The end just couldn’t justify the means anymore.  So, I moved my store and hosted it somewhere else.

Like many startups, there are things you have to consider.  For online stores, number one is traffic.  If you have no traffic, you have no business.  There are ways to get your presence noticed and it takes a lot of hard work.

I did notice while reading some of the other blogs, I found a 20 year old Irish entrepreneur who seem to have these things down.  He explains in simple terms how a good idea dies because of wanting an immediate ROI.  Charging too much, or asking for a Louis Vuitton price for a low quality trashbag doesn’t make sense to any businessman.  If you want to know how he explained it – - you can visit his site at http://www.smemon.com or read the particular entry by going here.

Sometimes, it takes one to experience it to understand.  And when you do, you will be well on your way.  Goodluck entrepreneurs.  I have always loved John Gokongkwei’s speech and I always refer to it for inspiration when he said ’success is not necessarily about connections, or cutting corners, or chamba–the three Cs of bad business’.  Read it, own it, and live it.  We can all be successful!

Jake Gyllenhaal in spandex again?? Rumors about Jake dating Reese Witherspoon? Hmmm…

Well, after a week in hiatus due to Holy Week – I am back!  Thanks to all of you who maintained my page visits while I was away.  I hope everyone had a nice Easter holiday.

It is friggin’ cold here on the east coast, not normal for Easter Sundayt… not like the left coast where Jake Gyllenhaal supposedly caused swerving vehicles and stopped traffic while doing a bike ride around Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles yesterday, wearing  tight biking shorts made out of spandex.  He is one man who can get away with it though besides Lance Armstrong – - sexy guys!  In the meantime, here are some pictures of Jake in biking shorts… he must really love wearing them during the month of April.  Some pics were taken from April of last year and you can tell that he’s been hitting the gym lately as well.

And to hear that Jake (Kirsten’s ex) and Reese (Ryan Philippe’s ex) is dating as well, just made my jaw drop.  Hmm – - if anyone out there confirms it – - let me know.

Happy Easter to all of you – - my friends!

I still remember – - it was back in 1985, a year after arriving here in the land of milk and honey when I first heard of her.  Back in the Philippines, I was a member of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal group from and when I arrived in the U.S. I still hungered for spiritual fulfillment.  Since I knew no one and very new to the Catholic church here, I relied on music to sustain my spirit.  Christian music was all that I listened to.  Through my weekly visits to a Christian bookstore, I came to know Amy Grant.  To me, she was this pure young spirit.  She was simple, very much in love with God.  I loved her music ’cause it filled the void in me.  One of my favorites is the song, ‘El Shaddai’.  I watched the video of her 1983 concert when she performed this song and I have loved it ever since.

Since it is Easter, and I feel that it is a good time for me to share what I enjoy to all of you.   Here’s a new clip of Amy Grant singing the song ‘El Shaddai’ in an updated version- – I understand now why I learned to love the artist and the song.  The song still has the same effect on me, and I hope that it touches you as well.  Watch this.

Hot Betty – American Ferrera featured on W Magazine

Photos and Article courtesy of Style.com

American Beauty
America Ferrera’s first real showbiz experience was something of a letdown. At 16, after a decade of acting in school plays and drifting off each night to Hollywood dreams, she was cast in a Disney Channel movie about a junior high school dance team with the somewhat hilarious name of Gotta Kick It Up. At first, she was thrilled. “I love to dance, so I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to just dance all day. And there were four other girls in the cast, so that was fun. And you know the way you think when you’re a teenager: Disney Channel today, Oscars tomorrow!” she says with a laugh. But a few weeks into filming, she had what she describes as “a mini nervous breakdown.” “I just felt really empty,” she says. “I had achieved my dream, and it wasn’t totally fulfilling. I still had school problems, and I still had boy problems. My life was still my life. I guess I had been waiting to be turned into a swan.” Read more

My Prayer – Black Saturday, Holy Week 2007

I know. I offered blogging up for Holy Week.  However, my experience going to church for the 14 Stations of the Cross today, has given me – even for a moment – that fire that I once had. I can never deny that I am a Christian, and I am really glad I am.  I reflected on my life compared to the life of the One Who Is.  I am nothing.

I knelt and prayed with my friends. I offered prayers for my family, my departed relatives, and for my friends. I pray that you find your purpose as you reflect about Christ’s passion between today and tomorrow. In relevance to my prayer, I couldn’t help but post this one video for all of us to share and hopefully we get to realize that He really died for us – - Yes – you, He died for you.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j49G8q8CUbg]

For Holy Week, let us reflect for a moment…

Hello Readers!!

Although my postings are random, sometimes crazy and sometimes not, I must admit to all of you that  in actuality – I am  a spiritual person.  I am a Christian – and this week will be the holiest week in our Christian calendar as observed during the Lenten Season.

It is the time of year that Christians from all over the globe will gather and observe the Passion of Christ.  The Lenten season began on Ash Wednesday and  will end  on Easter Sunday.  It is our time to reflect on our lives, see where we are and find ways to make ammends on past mistakes or prepare to become a better person.  In following Jesus Christ’s teachings, we are to strive to be perfect for God is perfect.

Please include me in your prayers as we sit back and reflect this week and I will include you in mine as well.

There will be no postings this week as I will be away from blogging  as my offering (I love to BLOG!) of sacrifice and join my brothers and sisters in in this observance.  I will see you after Easter.  God bless you all.
