I always wondered how Louis Vuitton got its ‘prestige’ and how it can charge so much for an item because of its brand. I was intrigued by its history and how Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy LMVH PA evolved from selling flat trunk luggages to coutoure designer leather goods.

Life or Term – that is my question
Approximately many 
years ago, while living in New York, I was approached by my sister’s friend. He asked whether I would be interested in obtaining life insurance from him. The company, New York Life.
I was just starting out, I had no financial obligations except rent and car payments. I had very few credit card balances and thought, I should really get life insurance just in case something happens. He offered me ‘life’ instead of ‘term’ since he said, obtaining a life insurance with a cash value would be ideal for someone young like me. I could get the insurance payable in ten years. The money will grow with dividends blah blah blah blah blah. I signed up.
After 15 years, I had accumulated approximately 17K in cash value. I could have continued but I thought that it was time to cash out. I took out the cash value and paid off a fraction of my mortgage. The thing is, I am back to zero without any life insurance at all except for the coverage offered at work. But, who cares? What am I going to do with the money after I die?
In life, we go through many stages and milestones. I was very young when I was offered the life insurance with cash value. At my age now, it wouldn’t be wise to obtain a life insurance but a term insurance. Cash value may accumulate for me but it would be wiser to invest the money somewhere else. At this stage, I have to pay house insurance , car insurance, credit insurance and so forth. The rate for ‘life’ insurance at my age would be ridiculously high, and since I am a smoker – it would be even higher.
My advice – if you’re young and able to pay for insurance at $76.80 per month with a cash value – go for it. If you are at a later time in life, term insurance is best because it is cheaper and even with no cash value, you are still protecting your family for the unexpected.
Life has many choices. Always try to pick the right one.

I have yet to blog about my trip to Asia. It has been a month since I returned and my memories still take me back there. Why is it that opportunities come at the wrong time sometimes? It is highly unlikely that I will get an opportunity like that again.
Anyway, let’s get off that subject before I get too mushy! I want to talk about our airport in Manila. First of all, I am all for attracting tourists and promoting tourism all over the world. With the help of ABS-CBN, GMA 7, The Filipino Channel and all sorts of media outlets, like blogs and such – we could definitely succeed in promoting our country.
Don’t get me wrong. I love the Philippines. I love the people. What bothered me was the fact that among all the Asian countries I visited – the worst airport was the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. I was pleased to land at the Centennial Airport via Singapore Airlines. I was pleased as well by the fact that I was out of the Airport in about a half hour without any crazy lines and all. I didn’t even get hassled by Philippine Customs or Immigration. I used to hear a lot of horrible stories about how they ask for bribes to get you through. That wasn’t the case at all. Read more

Los Angeles, CA – Circa 1995. I was offered a promotion to transfer to Los Angeles, CA from Baltimore, MD. I was excited! Imagine sunny California, beaches, sand and surf? Wow! It was something that I looked forward to. To top if off, all moving expenses were paid by my company plus extra cash for the first few months.

I didn’t realize that you could be living at the most beautiful place in the world but without friends, it would all mean nothing. I have never had such a hard time meeting people until I got to Los Angeles. I didn’t feel that the people there welcomed me as any east coast town would. For the next two and a half years, during weekends – I would see movies by myself at Virgin Atlantic theater in West Hollywood, or rent videos to watch at home. I did enjoy my roller blading along Redondo, Newport or Torrance beach but to do it alone got really old easily.
If FriendFinder was already available at that time, it would not have been so bad. The new features of sites such as this make it easy to meet people. Political intrigue, says Sen. Kiko Pangilinan of rumored marriage woes with Sharon Cuneta

I have always wanted it, but never got it.
I lived in Maryland for approximately five years. I loved it there. There isn’t a place that I’ve found yet that could even take the place of my good old Maryland. I guess it was dear to me as well because of my devotion to Mother Mary. Maryland seems to give me that assurance.
During that time, I was just starting out so I lived with my parents. My sister lived with us as well and she loves experimenting when it comes to cooking. She would cook different recipes that we have never tried before like the crabmeat-stuffed mushrooms, or make home-made ice cream. One thing that I really miss is the fresh bread that she makes every week with a bread maker. I hear that it is really difficult to make bread because you have to knead the dough for a long while before it can be placed in the oven for baking. However, my sister discovered the Panasonic bread making machines and it was the best. Once she found out that she can make bread using the machine instead of using the manual process – she bought one and tried it. It has worked perfectly and I am telling you – it was delicious.
I know, I know – but bread is a weakness of mine. I love bread and I don’t care whether they say it is fattening and all that. I will eat bread any time specially when it’s served warm. Oh my. I can vividly remember the scent of fresh bread baking in our house. It was mouth-watering.
Since then, I have always wanted one. I promised myself that if and when I do get a place of my own, I will buy my own Panasonic bread making machine. I have yet to get one! Maybe I’ll go shopping for one this weekend! Hmmm – great idea!

OMG. Since Diwa found the special someone, she has warned me that from this point on she will be speaking in English as opposed to the normal ‘tagalog’ among friends and her girlfriend. As you all probably know, my boyfriend is an American-born Filipino. He never got the chance to learn the language and he used to be so annoyed whenever my friends and I will speak Filipino. Diwa told him the other day, “I know what you feel now! I was at a party last weekend with my girlfriend and her Thai friends. I couldn’t understand a word they were saying! So, from now on, I will be sensitive to you ’cause I know how annoying it is!’
Ever since, Diwa has tried very hard to speak in English even among our Filipino friends. Even with her accent, she doesn’t care and I am glad. Speaking of different languages, I have been meaning to learn Spanish and I know that it is difficult to learn the proper pronunciation of words in Spanish but I am willing to learn. I also learned that there are
Spanish language training courses that I could take online or even enroll myself at a local community college. I have always wanted to be multi-lingual.
I remember as a child, I would go to our home library and scan books. I love to read and one of the books that I found while browsing through my mom’s collection of books is a book about learning how to speak German. It has illustrations that indicate the meaning of the sentences just like the Rosetta Stone language DVD’s today. The only difference is, you will not be able to hear the pronunciation like you do today – you have to understand the punctuations and marks they put in each word to be able to pronounce it properly.
Someday I will learn two more languages. One of them will be Spanish and I am also hoping to master French. Although I am more inclined to visit Spain first before France.
So Diwa – I admire your confidence and keep up the good work. You are doing quite well. Why don’t you take the Spanish language training courses with me? Maybe it will give you a different accent other than the ‘strong pilipino aksent?!
I didn’t know there are no fakes in Singapore
My trip to Asia last month was something that I didn’t expect. It was being at the right place at the right time kind of moment. My trip there was purely business but I had so much fun! There are lots of things I don’t know about other Asian countries and what better way to find them out by going there and seeing it for yourself.
I am a bit reluctant to go to Singapore. I remember the last time I was asked to move to Singapore was in 1992. Our VP approached me and wanted to me transfer to Singapore as they needed someone to represent the corporate office in Asia to learn the processes and how business related matters are handled in that part of the world. I declined because during that time, it was when the news about the kid who vandalized and spray-painted cars was punished with caning or lashing. I heard that you cannot chew gum in Singapore as well and that they are very strict when it comes to litter. They easily fine people if they catch you littering.
This time around, I heard that Singapore is really a nice small country. I didn’t know much about it until my business trip. Let me tell you – I have never fallen in love with a country that fast. Imagine, a country as small as Singapore could be as prosperous as they are with no natural resources to draw from? It is truly an amazing country.
One advise I heard from a colleague of mine before I left was that if I wanted to buy authentic watches, or bags or anything that is branded, I should shop in Singapore. Because in Singapore, it is illegal to sell fakes. And since it is a ‘fine’ city, you will be fined if not jailed if caught selling fakes.
So I decided to shop for sunglasses. My colleague and I went to the shopping mall (Vivo City I believe?), and shopped for sunglasses. Not only did I find authentic brand name sunglasses but these are the best! I bought myself a pair of Gucci and a pair of Armani sunglasses. It was on sale and I got it for a real bargain!
Next time you want to buy branded items, visit Singapore. You will not only love the country – you will love shopping!
Why do you need a Technorati and Alexa Ratings boost? Who cares right?
I have to get back on the same subject I blogged about just recently, June 9th to be exact. It was about the Viral Tags experiment. I was tagged by esofthub’s web finds and I didn’t really know what to expect. I simply copied and pasted his post as instructed and posted it on my blog.
The reason for this was that it claimed to boost your Technorati Rating. If you remember my post on *** regarding the problem I was having on claiming my blog at Technorati. I was finally able to resolve that but my rating was still very low. I had an authority of 50 when I started the Viral Tag. My Blog Juice was 1.4 which means that my rating is quite low and there were only a few blogs linking to my blog – I believe the number was about 225.
Since June 9th – with the effect of the Viral Tags – - here are my results.

What could be a giveaway for my 1000th post? Any Ideas?
I have been thinking about this for a month now. I have been blog hopping and found out that other bloggers provide give aways when they hit a certain milestone. The milestone could be the blog’s first year anniversary, the 1000th post, or whatever. I cannot think of one to give away that would be practical yet, elegant. I cannot give away a Louis Vuitton bag no?
There are lots of business promotional products over the net. There are trinkets and magnets, mouse pads and electronic devices but I cannot decide. Maybe, I could just do it ‘in kind’? He-he!!

My car, my precious car
If you must know, I drive to the train station every day. I take the train from New Jersey to Pennsylvania to get to work. I really don’t like driving and besides it is easier to read a newspaper while riding to work than worrying about traffic and parking costs.
When I moved to the east coast from Los Angeles, CA., I was advised by my wonderful boss that if I want to save money, I should live in Southern New Jersey and take the train to work. Parking in Philadelphia could cost as high as 20.00 USD per day if you stay after 6:00 p.m. and you have to pay the toll for $3.00 to cross the bridge. I figured $4.90 for a round trip ticket and free parking at the station beats the $23.00 USD cost per day that I would incur if I drive.
I have been parking there for years until about two weeks ago when someone hit my car and didn’t even have the audacity to leave without leaving any insurance or personal information. So I am stuck with getting my car repaired through my insurance. For a 2004 Nissan Murano, where would I get the car accessory needed to replace the billet grilles without costing me a fortune.
I was advised by the Insurance Company that the collision repair company is not obligated to put new parts for my car and that they may use after market parts in order to fix my car. I had to oblige and guess what? I just bumped up my deductible to lower my insurance cost two months ago. Now I am stuck with a bill of $750.00 because someone had the audacity to commit a hit-and-run right on the parking lot. People…. what is wrong with people today?

Chuva: Ruffa will welcome Yilmaz back to the Philippines

I found a website that will create custom labels for business and I thought about Bryanboy.com again. I remember that he was giving away the ‘I Love Bryanboy’ stickers from his blog. But, due to high demand (one time he provided his fans from Singapore a chance to ask for stickers – before he knew it, the request was up to 300 stickers or something like that).
Then, the entrepreneur in him kicked in. Hmmm – why don’t I sell these? He started selling his stickers on Amazon and voila! Another income stream. I wonder if I should do the same? PARIS Hilton will appear on Larry King’s chat show if she is released from jail as expected tomorrow.

Wilma Galvante, GMA 7 senior vice president for Entertainment, is reciting a litany of disparaging adjectives being hurled against star Angel Locsin.
The young actress was deluged with negative publicity after she reportedly made “inaccurate pronouncements” to the media, during the press conference of “Angels,” the movie she co-produced and top-bills.
It was reported that she had turned down the lead role in the forthcoming Kapuso remake of “Marimar.”
“It wasn’t officially offered to her,” Galvante explains. “Of course, she was considered, but when we learned of her plans to take it easy after ‘Asian Treasures’ and to study fashion design in London, we decided to look [around]. There were others in the lineup.”
