I love Ghost Stories. I love telling them as well. During my stay in the Philippines, I was in a bookstore at Mall of Asia called Fully Booked browsing books one afternoon and I came across a book called “True Philppine Ghost Stories” by a Filipino Author and her ghost writers that caught my eye. First off, the reason why I became interested was due to the fact that the hotel I was staying at, The Heritage Hotel on Roxas Boulevard was said to be haunted.
I skimmed one of the volumes and I read this one story. Remember, these are stories that are submitted by readers who encountered the phenomenon themselves. You know how big ghost stories are in the Philippines specially haunted buildings like colleges and high school buildings. Okay, here goes…
University of the Philippines – Diliman
A girl was on her way home to the dorms. She was the only remaining passenger on the jeep she was on. She had taken this route many times before, so she was surpirsed when the driver suddenly changed his course. Alarmed, she told the driver to drop her off at her dorm.
After a few minutes, the driver took the original route to her dorm and dropped her off. But before she got off the jeepney, the driver gave her a few words of advice,
“Miss, as soon as you get home, take off your clothes immediately and burn them! I changed my route to avoid any accidents. I was spooked because when I looked at you in the rearview mirror, your head was missing!”
(It is a saying that if someone looks at your reflection in the mirror and your head is missing, something bad could happen.)
Stories like these are something that I remember when I was younger. It used to scare the heck out of me but love hearing them anyway. I like re-telling the stories and look at facial expressions of my listeners – – specially when I scream in the middle of the story. That usually cracks me up.
Well, if you like stories like these, then you must like Stephen King! He is a master story teller and 1408 Movie by Stephen King is due to come out on June 22nd.
Here’s a synopsis:
Adapted from the short story by Stephen King, a renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (John Cusack) believes only in what he can see with his own two eyes. But after a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he has no real proof of life – or afterlife. Enslin’s phantom-free run of long and lonely nights, however, is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, “Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms.” Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be imminent, but first he must go from skeptic to true believer – and ultimately survive the night.
