She said she wasn’t safe, and was in fact in grave danger in the arms of the man she loved for seven years. Finally, actress Ruffa Gutierrez on Saturday admitted on national television through Startalk’s Butch Francisco that she was badly beaten by husband Yilmaz Bektas.
Through Francisco’s point-by-point probe on Bektas’ damaging allegations against Gutierrez, Ruffa fought back by detailing the reason why she left him: “The real reason I left him, (is) because all the time, he hits me, he abuses me, he tortures me. The last time I left Istanbul in February he hit me for 15 hours… Lahat ginawa n’ya. Sinasaktan n’ya ko. Binubugbog n’ya ko. Pinutol lahat ang buhok ko. Sinisipa ako, kinukulong sa cabinet…”
Ruffa said she even told Mom Annabelle Rama to seek help from President Arroyo because she felt she would die in the hands of his husband.
“Kung mamatay man ako…IIsa lang ang may gawa n’yan…si Ylmaz lang…(I told my Mom) humingi ka na ng tulong kay President Arroyo, humingi ka na ng tulong, I left my house, tumakbo ako, punong puno ako ng dugo, lahat ng mga yaya ko witness ko, lahat ng mga kaibigan ko witness ko. Umuwi ako sa Pilipinas may black eye ako, lahat ng legs ko punong puno ng marks .”
Excerpts of Francisco’s (BF) interview with Gutierrez (RG):
BF: Di daw legal ang kasal mo kay Yilmaz, dahil kasal ka na raw sa iba?
RG: Well you know what, Tito Butch, Thank God hindi legal ang kasal namin. Because you know, I’ve been trying to keep myself sane. I’ve been trying to be quiet these past few months, these past years that I’ve been tortured by him, because I’m trying to protect him, I’m trying to protect my kids. But now he’s already crossed the line.
RUFFA SAYS YILMAZ HIT HIM FOR 15 HOURS And the real reason I left him, (is) because all the time, he hits me, he abuses me, he tortures me. The last time I left Istanbul in February, he tortured me and he hit me for 15 hours and because my nalaman siya tungkol sa ‘kin.
Number one, my life is an open book okay. He didn’t find me riding a camel in the middle of the desert. I’m Ruffa Gutierrez. I’m an actress here in the Philippines. He can look on the Internet, everything about me. Wala akong tinago sa kanya. He accepted me for who I am. he loved me for who I am.
BF Tutal binuksan mo na yung issue ng torture and I’m very much concerned, ano itong torture na ito?
RG Lahat ginagawa niya. Sinasaktan n’ya ko. Binubugbog n’ya ko. Pinutol lahat ng buhok ko. Sinisipa ako. Kinukulong ako sa cabinet. Dina-dump n’ya ko…lahat.
BF And there’s reason behind ‘yong anger n’ya?
RG Wala. Sira ulo lang siya, Tito Butch. And I’m sorry for me so say this, but it’s too much. Everyday he’s like threatening me, threatening my Mom, threatening my Dad and yeah…too much…
RG Tito Butch, when you’re still young, you do crazy things. You make mistakes. But as you grow older, you learn from those mistakes and you move on.
RUFFA SAYS YILMAZ DOESN’T WANT HER TO MOVE ON When I married Yilmaz in 2003, I changed. I became a good wife. I became a good mother. And I think now, what he’s doing to me, he’s ruining my reputation dahil ayaw n’ya kong maging successful dito. Ayaw n’yang magkaro’n ako ng trabaho, ayaw n’ya kong mag-move on.
Ilang beses na s’yang tumatawag sa ‘kin. Gusto n’ya kong bumalik sa kanya. Hindi ko na kayang bumalik sa kanya…Di baleng mamatay na lang akong single, mag-isa kasama mga anak ko.
RUFFA WANTED TO ASK HELP FROM PRES. ARROYO Ayaw ko na siyang balikan pa, dahil naaalala ko ‘yong ginawa n’ya sa ‘kin. Hindi ko masikmura. And the reason why my Mom has been reacting this way, di alam ng publiko. Because in the last fight that we had, sinabi ko sa kanya, Ma, humingi ka na ng tulong kay President Arroyo, humingi ka na ng tulong. I left my house, tumakbo ako, punong puno ako ng dugo. Lahat ng mga yaya ko witness ko. Lahat ng mga kaibigan ko witness ko. Umuwi ako sa Pilipinas ng may black eye ako, lahat ng legs ko puning puno ng marks.
Sinabi ko sa kanila ‘yong totoong nangyari, kaya ayaw na nilang tanggapin si Yilmaz. ‘Yan ang totoo.
BF Ito ba (torture) nangyari agad no’ng kinasal kayo ng 2003?
RG Hindi. dati naman sinasaktan n’ya ko pero hindi ganon ka-grabe. Mula nong nabaril s’ya, nag-take na siya ng anti-depressant. Like ‘yong doctor, pumupunta sa bahay. Naging depressed siya and then d’on nagsimula ang lahat, mga two years ago.
BF Kaya ka ba pumunta ng L.A. para kunin o dukutin ang papeles ng (previous na) kasal mo?
RG Tito Butch, si Yilmaz nawawala na sa sarili n’ya. Araw-araw ibang ano…One day he’ll call me to say bad things about me. Just last night, I was with our friends, dinner sa bahay ni Gov. Chavit Singson, kasama ang Mommy at Daddy ko, kasama mga kaibigan ko, mga 20 kami, tawag siya ng tawag. Sino daw lalaking kasama ko…You know, I’m sick and tired of this. I just wanna move on.
BF Kaya ka daw umuwi ng Pilipinas dahil alam mong alam n’ya (Yilmaz) na about your previous marriage?
RG Tito Butch, kaya ako umuwi ng Pilipinas at umalis ako ‘do’n (Istanbul) dahil binugbog n’ya ko for 15 hours.
RUFFA SAYS YILMAZ KNEW FROM START EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PREVIOUS WEDDING Nuong na-meet ko si Yilmaz, alam n’ya na ‘yong buong istorya ko, kung ano ang buhay ko at alam n’ya na ‘yong tungkol sa sinasabi n’yang kasal-kasal na ‘yon dahil first month pa lang ng relasyon namin, mga 2000, alam na ‘nya, inamin ko na sa kanya ang lahat ng totoo.
Wala akong tinatago. I don’t need to hide anything. Now it’s clear. I’ve had enough. Ayoko na siyang balikan pa. If he wants to make this ugly, then so be it.
BF Sabi n’ya (Yilmaz), he’ll do everything to get the kids. Ano’ng binabalak mo ngayon?
RG No. The kids are gonna be with me because I took care of them. I’ve been supporting them. When I gave birth, he wasn’t even there. And I’m the Mom and I can take care of my kids. He hasn’t sent me a single penny since February. I don’t need his money. I don’t need anything from him because I can support my kids…
