Summer E-Cards, brag about your summer vacation

Every summer, my friends and I go to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. It has become an annual event for us since it is the place for ‘all-you-can-eat’ crabs, a close second to the Maryland Blue crabs! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Hmmm – - Old Bay Seasoning, freshly-steamed, with garlic and vinegar – yumm – - we could spend half a day there and put away a half a bushel of crabs.

One thing I never really did well while at the beach is making sandcastles. I’ve always found it hard although I see people create sand castles as if their lives depended on it. One time, while walking along Ocean City, Maryland – I saw this grand ‘sand art’ created by this artist. He actually created ‘The Last Supper’ and occupied a good strip on the boardwalk. Then, he lit candles all around it – it was awesome! So, being a frustrated sandcastles creator that I am, I found this site where you can actually build your own sand castle and there are templates that would help you create one. Going on vacation is one thing but bragging about it is another.

So, I went to this site http://www.virtualsandcastle.com and created my own castle. It was a drag and drop application and you can build as little or as huge of a sandcastle you want. You can email it to friends, save it as a wall paper. It was fun and you can even involve your kids to create one and send it out to their friends by using the e-card. Once you save your summer e-card, you can send it out and add your personal message to it.

I would like to send this one out to my friends who didn’t get to go to the beach with me and personalize it with ‘Hope you’re having as much fun mowing your lawn while we are here!’ ;) That’s the fun of it, you can create it wherever you are! As long as you have a computer and an internet connection, you can make one.

The New IPhone – - I must have it!

iPhone Review and Video

I hear all the hype that is being given the new IPhone! As I understand it, the hype is well justified. It is the coolest, the hippest and the best product that ever came to market.

The iPhone can handle phone calls, e-mail, Web browsing, music and videos. There are already cell phones that do those things. What’s unusual is that on the iPhone, Apple software is behind all those functions. Take a look!

My response:

This is it!! I really have to lose some weight folks!

Yesterday, I was invited to have ‘cocktails’ at Bump, a lounge in Philadelphia that is homey, nice ambiance and cool people. It was supposed to be a farewell to one of our friends moving away to Chicago.

First, it was Monday. I never go out on Mondays! AYFKM?!! I am way to old to have cocktails at the beginning of the week. But out of my ‘social responsibilities’, I obliged. I went with a few friends and to make it more fun, I even invited a few other friends.

Well, the martinis were only $3.00 before 7:00 p.m. (happy hour time). So here we are, buying a round each for us to take advantage of the cheap martinis. Before you know it, I had gulped down 5 martinis and I was tipsy. I mean, I wasn’t drunk – - just feeling good. Read more

Ruffa: Yilmaz should come to RP, face my parents

A jolly Ruffa Gutierrez greeted the entertainment reporters at the press junket for The Buzz yesterday at the 9501 Restaurant in ABS-CBN. The beauty queen-actress is now officially the host of the Kapamilya showbiz talk show, replacing Kris Aquino.

Before the press conference began, Ruffa made a statement to the press: “I just wanna say that I don’t want to talk about private matters about Yilmaz [Bektas]. I think enough has been said. I’m sure kayo naririndi na rin. I thought it was going to be a very short announcement na humaba nang humaba na naging teleserye na. Ruffa Gutierrez to hire personal bodyguards

Ruffa Gutierrez would still have her security escorts. She’ll have to pay them though like the way she used to.

Shortly after it was reported that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will pull out the three police personnel assigned to the actress and her children after a month, Ruffa retorted by saying that she’ll continue to hire the services of personal security.

“I used to have my own security naman even before. Puwede pa din naman akong kumuha ng bodyguards kahit hindi provided ng gobyerno. Ako ang magbabayad sa kanila,” said Ruffa when interviewed by the press yesterday, June 19, during her contract signing for Regal Entertainment. Read more

Pure Innuendoes

They were the best of friends. They were always seen together around the University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Diliman: one was undoubtedly a very good-looking guy and the other was unquestionably a plain-looking guy. Opposites really attract. Hey, but they’re both brilliant students. Well, birds of the same feather also flock together. Indeed, they were very close to each other. Unusually close.

They were the perfect tandem. Like suman and ripe mango. Or nuts and bolts. Peg and a hole.

They were both protegees of then UP Student Council chairman Chito Gascon. Soon, the good-looking guy took the helm as UP Student Council chairman. But the best friends seem to follow each other’s path. The plain-looking guy also ran for the same position with the all-out support of his good-looking friend. He won, of course.

The good-looking guy was the crush ng bayan of the iskolars ng bayan.

During lunchtime, students of all persuasions flocked to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) cafeteria to catch a glimpse of the good-looking guy. Even singer-actress Regine Velasquez later admitted on national television that she had a big crush on the good-looking guy. Read more

The Story of the Muslim Princess

Suppose that there was a Muslim princess from the flood capital of the Philippines, Malabon, who has just finished her degree in Mass Communications from the University of the Philippines with Latin honors (cum laude). Suppose that she decided to work for Discorama.

Remember the Saturday afternoon show on GMA Channel 7 with former Senator Tito Sotto, his brother Vic Sotto and comedian Joey de Leon as hosts? The Muslim princess was assigned to host the Tough Hits segment of the show. As Tough Hits girl, she did the weekly countdown of popular songs with bastardized lyrics to elicit cheap laughs. Her mother, who was an executive at the Philippine National Bank in Escolta, just shrugged her shoulders whenever her colleagues would ask about her favorite daughter’s TV show.

Soon, a female newscaster of a major TV network introduced the Muslim princess to her brother, a flight steward. After a whirlwind courtship, the Muslim princess married the flight steward who used to be a child actor whose only claim to fame was playing the role of a toddler Bongbong Marcos in a Marcos bio-flick. After a couple of months, the Muslim princess and the flight steward quietly separated. Read more

At a tender age of 17, Marcial was a war correspondent for The Manila Times. Marcial’s war experience provided him with a treasure chest of stories which inspired him to write a movie screenplay. His screenplay was made into a movie, starring Jaime de la Rosa and a 16- year old actress named Dorothy. Helmed by renowned director Lamberto Avellana, the movie was a huge success. During the first FAMAS award ceremony in 1952, Dorothy
received the first FAMAS trophy for best supporting actress for her role in the movie.

The only child of a US soldier and a Filipina, Dorothy was also a semi-finalist in the 1952 Miss Philippines beauty contest. It was therefore not surprising that Marcial got so enamored with Dorothy that he did everything to court her. Marcial even carried Dorothy’s make-up kit during movie shootings. It Could Happen Only in the Movies

These two women move in different circles but they seem to lead parallel lives.

Barbara C. Gonzales is the great-granddaughter of national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Her great-grandmother is Dr. Jose Rizal’s elder sister, Maria, a liberated woman who was separated from her husband Daniel. Barbara is more popularly known by her nickname, Tweetums. She once appeared in a Del Monte tomato sauce TV commercial featuring three generations of women in the kitchen. Yes, that was Tweetums with her daughter, Panjee, and Tweetum’s mother whom they fondly called Mamu. Tweetums was married to Ramon Tapales, a successful businessman. Their daughter, Panjee Tapales ( a.k.a. singer Panjee Gonzales), was co-host of ABS-CBN’s daily morning show, Alas Singko Y Media (now Magandang Umaga Pilipinas) and its defunct Sunday morning game show with Roderick Paulate and Eric Quizon. Panjee soon became the second wife of ABS-CBN chairman, Gabby Lopez. (But that’s another story.) Read more

Winners and Losers: From Kris to Ruffa to Gretchen (Desperate Housewives. Philippine Edition). (Or are we reaping some sort of a negative karma to deserve them?)

The month of June is a good time to review what transpired for the first six months of 2007. For this edition, Conventional Wisdom is focusing on showbiz-related matters instead of the usual politics (which in a way is also show-biz but ……for ugly people). Read on.

Kris Aquino. Loser. While she is the innocent one in the whole James-Hope brouhaha, Conventional Wisdom thinks that she could have handled the incident with more dignity and privacy. One wonders why this drama queen wants to inflict her day-to-day saga with the whole planet. From exaggerating her “life-threatening” pregnancy, to lambasting her
husband in public (“O magsalita ka? Totoo namang pina-palayas na kita sa bahay a?”), to actually using Ninoy to promote a cake in her latest commercial. Kris’ next endorsement should neither be beer nor pastries but laundry detergent for her unquenchable desire to always wash her very dirty underwear in public. Read more

You’re FIRED!! What? How? Why? When?

Michael Weston was accepted to work for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency).  He went through rigorous background checks, and have presented all sorts of documentation to prove his ‘good moral character’ in order to be accepted at the prestigious institution.  Only a select few makes it past these requirements.  He worked hard to get there, and kept his records clean to be accepted.

An agency where the primary function is to obtain and analyze information about other governments, and institutions, including individuals,  they report their findings back to the branches of the United States government.  CIA’s (as they are called) are loyal to their function.  It is believed to sometimes resort to underground methods.  It has been largely criticized for its policies and the alleged way it obtains information as it has oftentimes suspected of human rights violations such as torture and use of propaganda to influence others to be in favor or the U.S. Government.

Although Michael Weston heard these rumors prior to his acceptance at the agency, disregarded them as pure fallacy.  How could a prestigious agency such as the CIA do such alleged torture and propaganda?  He refused to believe it and still held the CIA in high regard.

That was until he discovered revealing proof that indeed, all accusations about the CIA’s corrupt and dark policies are true.  It started when he was led to a high security archive section of the building in Langley, VA.  While doing his research, and searching for references – he discovered a film labeled ‘MMP – TOP SECRET’.  When he opened the film reel case, written across the film was ‘Man on the Moon Propaganda’.   Quickly running the film through the projector, he believed that he was dreaming.  The screen showed a full production, complete with camera sets, directors, costume designers, and the set seem to resemble what he has seen on TV over and over again.  It was the scene of the man’s historic mission to the moon!!!  He didn’t question, and pretended that he saw nothing.  He hurriedly turned the projector off, placed the film back in its case and returned it where he found it.  Although in his mind, he is wondering whether the film he saw was real.  “Would the United States government really create a production and broadcast something that was made up to be a historic event?”, he thought.

As each day passes, he feels the pain of being deceived by the agency. The agency that created such high standards regarding his moral character, yet failed to uphold its own.  He wanted to deny it.  He wanted to pretend that he never saw it but he could not.  He is determined to find out.  He confides to his closest colleague at the agency about the discovery… a person whom he treats to be more than just a friend asking, “If it was true that it was a propaganda, why did they do it?”

He walks in the next morning, and his office has been emptied.  His things are in boxes and without explanation, he was led out of the office.  Was it because of his discovery?  Was it a trap?

This could have been the story of Michael Weston, on USA Network’s Burn Notice, but it isn’t.  Yes, he works for the CIA, and yes, he was fired.  But why?   Was it something that he knows that the world cannot know?  Was it a set up?

To find out the real story why Michael Weston was fired from the CIA,  go to http://www.usanetwork.com/series/burnnotice and find out the real story of Michael’s termination.  Starting June 28th Michael Weston, a CIA Operative on USA Network’s new TV series, Burn Notice, will experience the dreaded firing.

Classic Lines from Filipino (Pinoy) Movies – Entertaining!!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rNkymhFxSQ]

A movie is composed of a whole lot of factors mixed together. And though local movies are often criticized for being artista-centered, there are still films that manage to stand on their own merit.

They say that a superior picture is made of a good story, good actors and certainly a good script. Lines used in movies are like pop songs; sometimes, even the simplest one-liner is enough to hold a viewer’s attention like a melody hook.

In the June 11 episode of QTV’s “Ang Pinaka” hosted by Pia Guanio, 20 of the most unforgettable Filipino movie quotes of all time were presented. These are lines that have withstood the passing of time, and throughout the years, have continued to gain a life of their own.

The lines listed below were selected and debated by some of the country’s respected directors, entertainment writers, and movie critics.

1. “Baliw ang nagsasabing isinilang na ang aking karibal.  You’ll never make it!  You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!”
- Cherie Gil, Bituing Walang Ningning (1985)

2. “”Para kang karinderyang bukas sa lahat ng gustong kumain.”
- Vilma Santos, Palimos ng Pag-ibig (1985)

3. “Walang himala! Ang himala ay nasa puso ng tao! Nasa puso nating lahat!”
- Nora Aunor, Himala (1982)

4. “My brother is not a pig! My brother is not a pig! Ang kapatid ko ay tao, hindi baboy damo!”
- Nora Aunor, Minsa’y Isang Gamugamo (1976)

5. “Once, twice, thrice, gaano ba kadalas ang minsan?”
- Hilda Koronel, Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan (1982) Read more

“Pero kahit papaano okey na rin. Kumukulit na rin kami kapag nag-usap. Dati kasi parang may wall, marami kaming hindi puwedeng pag-usapan. Kasi pag pinag-usapan namin, babalik na naman kami doon sa ganyan, ganyan, ganyan,” kuwento ng young actress. Read more

I already know you love to blog, but where will you find content?

CHECK OUT ADDED CONTENT ON THE RIGHT from Newsroom.com->>>>

Monetizing your blog has been my favourite topic since I started blogging. I didn’t know that blogging is an untapped goldmine and of course, anything that gives me cash for doing something that I love is a total HIT for me.

Remember when I first discovered adsense? I was on it like a fly on a pile of **** jar of honey!! (By the way, I have already received two checks from Google and another one will be on its way soon!). Then, I discovered that you can add to your income using sponsored ads like Linkshare, then PPP came and I am all over it as well wherein after a little over a month of postings, I have banked approximately $300.00 USD. Not bad ay?

How did I do all this? First, you have to make sure that you fill your blog with FRESH content. Always keep on top of the game. Second, make sure that your site is visible by submitting your sites to ranking websites like Alexa.com and Technorati.com. Get your blog known by submitting it to search engine listings such as Yahoo and Google and you can do this by going to Addme.com.

Once you get your ratings up, it’s time to earn cash. As of now, my two Google adsense checks have covered my hosting costs. So now, I am blogging for free (technically). The income that will come after that are just icing on the cake and considered pure revenue.

But how do you keep your site fresh? You need content right? Well, here’s a secret. I discovered another site that will pay your per CPM and they provide the content to you! The News Room is a unique business approach wherein you are provided content that you can place on your blog or website and as may times your viewers click on it, you are given a percentage of the CPM. Isn’t that great? You are provided content and you are paid as well. It cannot get any better!

The News Room collects their content from high ranking news provides such as Associated Press (AP), Reuters, and Agence France-Press (AFP). It’s payment chain is VIRAL and their loyalty program can earn you prizes such as a digital camera or even a brand new car. It has easy-to-embed videos that would provide a professional look onto your blog or website and the stories are fully licensed.

What’s great about TheNewsRoom.com?

-Make money via advertising share, CPM start at $1
-Put relevant, timely news on your site.
-Earn prizes including electronics, vacations, and cars when you participate
-How easy and free it was to embed
-The many video and content choices you had
-MASH FOR CASH
When you use the mash button to embed a news story or a news feed (with advertising) onto your website or blog you begin earning revenue. This is a win win for bloggers who value high quality content to enhance or support their opinion and who blog for profit.
-VIRAL PAYMENT PLAN
Earn a share of the advertising revenue each time mashed news is viewed on your site. TheNewsRoom has an innovative, viral payment model that can earn you up to $4 per thousand impressions (CPM). You’ll also earn money when someone mashes content from your site and it is viewed on theirs. This is well above current industry standards that are typically around $0.15 CPM. Take advantage by mashing and encouraging your friends to mash from your site!

Just take a look at this – - my dream gadget is about to be released!

Presentations and data files, how will I take it with me?

Six citites in Asia, 30 presentations and a lot of data. How did I manage to do that? I was afraid that my laptop will crash and all my documents and all my data will be gone, forever. What if I lost my laptop along the way?

I heard of an Online Storage company that will store all of my important documents and data for a very minimal cost! User data such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, My Documents, Financial Files and other office can be stored online and the back up works for both Windows and MAC operating systems. I never heard of such a thing. I know that our company uses Microsoft Exchange for our email but I always have to VPN in to get to my local files if I didn’t take my laptop with me. This was totally mind boggling so I decided to check them out.

The company boasts of a military-grade, 256-bit encryption technology during secure backups. That is real security if you ask me. You can use a backup and restore function either interactively or you can schedule it as well. One good thing is familiarity. It has the look and feel of Windows explorer so even amateur people like me will not be intimidated in using it. Having an account with Online Storage can save a lot of important moments that CEO’s and VPs of Sales encounter when they are travelling with their most important presentation or data. It’s more like a portal but even better!

You can restore up to 30 early prior versions of your data files including the most recent version. I think that would be safe enough for me!

I remember back in 1989, when our company was really small, we have one guy in I.T. that manages our servers. One night, a lightning struck the our building causing a short-circuit within the building. It caused the servers to shut down and one bad thing is, we didn’t have a backup. Imagine our company losing all the data most specifically, accounting data. We had to settle with our customers on what they think they owe us because we had no way of retrieving the data that was lost. Needless to say, we had a new I.T. manager within a week.

That was back in 1989 when probably, our company didn’t even think of having redundant machines or backing up data that is as important as accounting data. The Online Storage company would have come in handy. In today’s environment, redundancy is key. I think most businesses that are small to medium-sized would benefit from this company with limited costs for limited budgets.

Ocean’s 13? Don’t bother.

on Uncategorized

A friend of mine quit his job and his last day was today.  He was so ecstatic saying, ‘I felt a weight lifted from my shoulders! Let’s go see a movie!’    I hesitated because I am really tired and I have lots of things to do at home.  To not rain on his parade, I obliged.

I really wanted to see Spiderman 3 but the showing was not until 10:00 p.m.  Too late for my bedtime so we decided to go to the theater and pick a movie there.  OK, I must admit that I liked the first Shrek.  The next one was okay and I really wasn’t keen on seeing Shrek 3.  In the end, I thought why not since it is the only movie that starts 35 minutes earlier.

At the last minute, my friend changed his mind to see Ocean’s 13 instead.  I agreed because it would be a good alternative to Shrek 3 – I thought.  What a surprise… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!  Ocean’s 13 is boring!  The story line is unimpressive.  The acting was okay (if only Brad Pitt and Matt Damon weren’t in the movie, I would have walked out!) but it was super slow!

So, if you’re thinking of watching a movie this weekend – I wouldn’t pick Ocean’s 13.  Wait for it on DVD – I don’t even think it’s worth that.

Control your teen’s expenses and teach them responsibility.

Heard of PAYjr. It’s a Teen Card that teaches teens how to earn money responsibly while helping parents manage the household chores.

PAYjr offers an allowance and chore system that allows parents to assign household chores online, designate a money value for those chores, and provide a financial reward when chores are successfully completed.

PAYjr supports instant messaging, e-mail and text messaging to notify children when their parents assign new chores or when money has been deposited into their PAYjr account or other savings account. Likewise PAYjr notifies parents when a chore has been completed, building up a record of chores over time.

PAYjr Teen Card is sort of a CRM billing system for the family. The use of online tracking applied to kid’s chores is a good idea, adding support for TXT and IM makes it better again. Parents with kids looking for a different way of managing the allocation of chores will like PAYjr

Now, theoretically this tool could be useful if it was used in conjunction with talking with your kids. But it’s hard to imagine that if you do have excellent communications with the children, that you’d need an online tool to keep their chores straight. Unless you’re running a sweatshop or have 60-some odd kids there’s no way that there are enough chores going on that you need to bring the internet into the equation. But whatever. Everything’s online now, why not this?
