Cousins? The more the merrier…
We have a family friend. One is the fraternity brother of my older brother from college. When he first came to the U.S., he didn’t know anyone. My brother advised him to call my sister in New York for assistance once he arrived.
He arrived and when he and my sister met, she was impressed by him. A veterinarian by profession, he was petitioned to work for a vet hospital in Queens, NY. My sister offered her basement as a temporary refuge until he can stand on his own – specially in New York where rental properties are exorbitant.
A few months later, he told my sister that his cousin is arriving from the Philippines and asked my sister if he could stay there with him as well. My sister, the good Samaritan that she is, obliged.
Both of them became very good friends of the family. They are actually considered family since they are always invited to family reunions and other events that my family has.
That was 16 years ago. The ‘cousins’ are still together and have bought properties together. They are doing well in their careers and have even brought some of their family members here. All this time however, we were wondering – are they really ‘cousins’? It seemed odd that they never had girlfriends, no talk of marriage and so forth – and both of them treat each other like husband and wife. The way they fight, the way they take care of each other… hmmmmm.
Well guess what, the weekend Gay Pride in New York was my moment. No I didn’t see them at the Pride parade. They finally told me. They have been a couple for 27 years. He was 16, the other guy was 18 at the time they met. They have always been in love with each other and guess where they met? At church. How about that?!
More power to you – you know who you are! I am rooting for both of you… may both of you have 27 years or more to come….
Congratulations – and I’m glad you told me~! Now, we can go to Montreal and Brazil together!!!
