Call it achievement, accomplishment, success – whatever…

“Okay. It’s all very well for you to talk about happiness and peace of mind, they say, but how do you bring a smile to the face of a man who is out of work, with five hungry mouths to feed and nothing in the refrigerator? How do you calm the mind and soul of a young ghetto mother who has been ground up by her environment while she struggles to support her three fatherless children? How do you convince a dying person that he can still enjoy what’s remaining of his life? What do you tell a housewife who is certain that she is doomed to a life of dirty dishes and unmade beds?”

“None of those problems you pose are easy, Mister Og, and yet let me remind you, once again, that each of these individuals and everyone else in the world still have their own pilot light burning inside them. It may be very diminished, in some but this I tell you . . . it never, never goes out! So long as there is a breath of life remaining, there is still hope . . . “

Yes peeps!! I received my diploma today. I know that it is only my Associates degree, and I also know that I still have a long way to go for my Bachelor’s (another three years maybe since I am doing it part-time). But WHO CARES?!!!! I am one step closer!

I thought that once I get my Associates – remembering all the hard and trying times while going to work and going to school at nights – I would quit. I thought to myself then – once I get my Associates in Science Degree – that is it!

But now, I want to reach higher. I am already here, so why not take a few steps more. It is really challenging when you have lots of sleepless nights doing your homework and being afraid that you may compromise the job that pays your bills because you need to finish a paper or study for the finals – but it’s all part of the game. Sooner or later I will get there.

So, to all you peeps out there thinking there is no time to go back to school? Think again! Remember – the pilot lamp, never never goes out!
