PBB hunks Bruce Quebral and Zanjoe Marudo pulled out from “Desperadas”
May pagbabago sa male cast ng Desperadas, ang entry ng Regal Entertainment sa 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival. Napag-alaman ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na out na sa cast ang Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) ex-housemates na sina Zanjoe Marudo at Bruce Quebral dahil sa conflict of schedules.
Si Zanjoe sana ang leading man ni Ruffa Gutierrez at si Bruce naman ang basketball player na love interest ni Marian Rivera. As of this writing, pagmi-mitingan pa raw kung sino ang ipapalit sa dalawa. Kailangan ding aprubado ng producer ang papalit sa kanila.
First movie sana ni Bruce ang Desperadas. Six days sana siya kailangang mag-shooting, pero four days lang ang kayang ibigay na schedule ng ABS-CBN and after August 4, hindi na siya puwedeng mag-shooting dahil may national tour ang PBB. Hindi rin siya makakapag-report sa Saturday shooting schedule na importante dahil Saturday lang makukunan nang kumpleto ang buong cast.
Ang toxic schedule din ni Zanjoe ang naging problema kung bakit naalis siya sa cast sa first Regal movie niya. Nadagdagan ang TV show niya, kaya pati ang T-TH-S shooting sked niya ay nasagasaan.
Hinahabol ng Regal ang deadline ng MMFF at hindi na mahintay si Zanjoe, kaya nag-decide ang Regal at si Direk Joel Lamangan na palitan na sina Zanjoe at Bruce. Sina Wendell Ramos at TJ Trinidad ang dalawa pa sa leading men ng pelikula, kung saan kasama rin sina Rufa Mae Quinto at Iza Calzado.
If Only I went to a Boarding School
I remember the movie, Dead Poet Society. One of my favorite movies of all time. ‘Seize the day!’ Wow! One reason why I wished I went to a boarding school. I like the blazer and necktie, wearing the cool jacket with the school emblem, living at the dorms and meeting all kinds of people. I could imagine that if you live with people like that, you get to build long lasting friendships that never fades.
I went to an all-boys Catholic school which I guess it is something that comes close to boarding schools. I imagine that it is probably similar with the camaraderie, the friendship, and the memories. I used to ask my mom if I could go to a public school like the rest of my neighborhood friends because I want to hang out with them. I am glad that my mom never allowed that to happen.
Today, one of my fondest memories are the experiences I had in high school. I still keep in touch with the friends I had back then and the connections I’ve made back then, have turned into business networks today.

I was in love with the Pops & Martin tandem way back in the early 80’s. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!! I used to stay up late at night to watch Penthouse Live. My sister had the biggest crush on Martin Nievera, and I had the biggest lust for — ehem.. Martin Nievera!! 
When I left for the U.S., I didn’ t expect that the chemistry will fade. I always thought that they will be together forever. I watched them together for the last time at a concert held in Queens College in NY back in 1989 I believe. And then again for a concert in Las Vegas in 1996. The bad news came that they had broken up and have led separate lives since then.
BUT – there was a series of concerts that they did (which I may have missed) as Pops & Martin reunited. How could I have missed that?

Why a Home Equity Loan?
Recently, I had remodeled my kitchen. Home improvement is one of the best investments you can make if you own a home. As long as you know where the limit is, you will be certain to make a good profit.
There was nothing wrong with my kitchen, the cabinets are about eighteen years old and the sink and faucet were recently replaced. I was one of the lucky ones that purchased their home when the market was really good. The housing boom took the home value to two and a half times its original price. I figured, even if I spent a little money to renovate my kitchen, it would still be worth it because it will not exceed the amount I could sell my house for.
I thought about home equity lines of credit and home equity loans and had to decide which one is best. I understand that home equity lines of credit are good because you can use the money that you need and pay interest only on the amount you borrowed. But with home equity loans, you have to pay interest on the full amount.
However, home equity lines of credit usually have a higher interest rate than home equity loans. It was advantageous for me to go with a home equity loan because I don’t anticipate to be in this house for more than five years. Once I sell the home, with the added value a remodeled kitchen would add, I would still make a profit. And more, I could enjoy a high-end kitchen for the next five years to entertain friends and family.
I thought about taking a home equity line of credit but figured, I would make use of the rest of the money to pay off high interest credit card debt. This would reduce my monthly expense and be able to save more in the process.
It all boils down to the bottom line. If you are thinking of renovating your home, be sensible and only renovate a portion that you know would pay off in the long run. Taking more money can sometimes pay off if you have high-interest debt that a home equity loan could cover.

I was coerced to go on a diet by my maid.
I was coming home from work today and my maid called me on my cell. She said, ‘Hey, aren’t we going to go shop for food today?’ I said, ‘Why? Aren’t there any food in the house?’ ‘Nothing that is good for you.’, she responded.
She went on a ‘organic fruit’ diet a month ago and lost a lot of weight. She was encouraging me to go on the same diet (I guess she noticed that I gained a lot of weight). So, we went to the grocery store. Guess what? Is this what you call dieting? We bought – pears, bananas, peaches, cherries, plums, grapes, grapefruit, watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupes, pineapple, apples, jackfruit, lanzones, lychees, mango, even durian couldn’t escape us. On top of that, we bought 10 pounds of pistachio nuts for snacks.
Letche! Kaing kaing pala ang bibilhin namin, halus mapurga ako sa kakain ng prutas. Para akong kuneho rito! Hayun, pag itong mga prutas na to nabulok, gilgilingin ko to at ipapakain ko sa kanya.
Hoy – hindi ako mapang-api. Kung ikaw kaya pakainin ko ng prutas buong linggo, hindi ka kaya mang-gagalaiti?! Hay naku – we’ll see the results in one week. Pag ako hindi nag-lose ng weight, ihahampas ko ang timbangan sa yaya ko.

Why Math?
I always hated Math! I would have avoided it in class if I could but I couldn’t. I don’t know how I graduated from elementary school (barely!) But then, my mom being the cheerleader that she is, encouraged me. She took her time and sat with me after school and assisted me with my homework. And that was the benefit. I learned how to solve problems, and started to enjoy it.
My sister’s child is the same way. I know that she is smart but lazy just like her uncle. I told my sister to look into math tutors. I know that with the proper encouragement, she could excel and even love Math like I do now.
Score Learning centers helps children ages 4 to 14 make significant academic progress in an innovative tutoring environment. It could somehow be exactly what my niece needs to get her through the difficulty she is having right now. I know it is possible.

Maybe we are having the best time right now, my maid is really doing well here at home. I’m surprised na hindi pa siya pagod sa kin. I just realized when I blogged about the water bill kung ano talaga ang dahilan.
Let’s evaluate.

How my business got started…
You know how I love business. I love the business of making money and I will work hard, find something that would provide hard-earn return and I will make time to do it. Similar to how I found Ebay. It was posted on Reyna Elena’s Blog back in December of 2006, and then again on my post back in April of 2007. Once I know that I can make money off of it (legally of course), I try it and if it works, I’m all over it.
Recently I discovered Pay Per Post – easy money. Review Me? Easy money. I am ALL OVER ITTTTTTTTT! And now, I have a friend who is Vietnamese. His brother opened a Texas business in Laredo, TX. The business went very well. His brother used to own several Nail Salons here in the Philadelphia area and have done very well at it. He decided to go for a much bigger risk – casinos’ in Laredo, TX.
Having a Texas business and a Philadelphia business was too much for him. So, he decided to let go of the Nail Salons and concentrated on the Casino in Laredo. Result? He recently came back after selling his Casino business, purchasing a house in a very prominent area here in New Jersey and just do day trading over the internet. That is my dream. I want to be able to work from home in my pajamas, no need to get up and drive somewhere, work for a couple of hours and after 2K profit – go back to bed.
They say I have the Mida’s touch. We’ll see. I am blogging for money and it has given me great returns so far. How about you?
My water bill last month was $121.30 – Do you know what that means?
I received my bill from New Jersey American Water. I normally do not open my bill from NJAW because it usually ranges from 15.90 – 25.00 USD at the most. I only open it when I am ready to pay it. Somehow, I opened the envelope today and to my surprise – it was more than four times the maximum consumption charge I have received since living here seven years ago!!!
I don’t remember the toilet leaking, and if it did – I don’t believe it will be worth 22,000 gallons of water. That is more than a medium sized pool. And to add insult to injury, the bill was for when I was away in Asia? May 23-Jun 22. No one was here!!! I called them and they told me that it is really unusual and told them that never in my seven years of living here had I received a bill from NJAW running more than 35.00 USD. I was told that they will send a meter reader to make sure that my meter is running normal. If so, I will have to pay the bill in full. If not, they will adjust it. Read more

If learning to say ‘no’ is not enough.
What do these people have in common? Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie, Matthew Perry, Robin Williams? They all went through drug rehab. Some of them are not really hard-core drug addicts. Some were addicted to prescription drugs but some were for eating disorders and so forth. Some through fault of their own, and some not. But how do you get yourself out of that mess once you’re in it? I applaud the likes of Lindsay Lohan who admitted that she has a problem and checked into rehab.
I don’t know about you. Since these people are celebrities, I guess it would be best to go through drug rehab using the best of the best. My trip to Shanghai
It was a rare opportunity. I enjoyed this trip so much and the friends I made along the way is something that I cannot forget.
My five-city tour in Asia brought me to Shanghai. It was amazing! The new city that they call Pu-dong is beautiful. From afar, you wouldn’t notice the glamour of it all until you get to it. I think the other side is what they say in jest that no one wants to visit – because it’s called Pu-si.
Here are pictures from my journey. Pardon the camera as it was really hard to figure out how to set the camera if taking a picture from a distance, close-up, at night or during daylight. But it was still the best.

Reading leads to greatness
I wonder what would have happened if I didn’t like reading. You see, growing up I learned to love reading because my mom and dad set up a library for us in the house. There were 10 of us and almost all of us were going to school at the same time. We constantly have school books passed on from one sibling to the next. I remember reading the Encyclopaedia at the age of 11, trying to look up the word homosexuality. I wanted to know its real definition and if I actually fit the bill.
Somehow, I had a friend who frequently visited us to use books from our library as a reference to his book reports or projects. He had a hard time reading. I believe dyslexia was still an unknown disorder at that time. He required many reading tutors to be able to catch up to his grade level. I would usually assist him and give him guidance. Once I learned how skimming and scanning books worked, I taught him.
Eventually, he started to excel in school. I believe he even graduated valedictorian in his elementary class. It’s the basic of learning. If one cannot read, it could hamper their growth personally.
I am so glad that there are reading tutors available now. My sister enlisted her son to assist him in reading. My nephew showed signs of improvement immediately. He started to enjoy reading now because he receives the praise and satisfaction from his teachers and peers. The reading tutors that are most successful are the ones who are attentive, diligent, positive and precise in their tutoring habits. They are the ones that should be called heroes in assisting kids such as my nephew to get through the hurdles in reading. I wish my friend had that when we were younger. If you have a friend or know someone’s child having difficulty in reading, start looking into reading tutors. They will surely help your child not only for the present but later in life. It will build your child’s confidence and character.
On credit cards and borrowing money
Every once in a while, we splurge. Yes, I am guilty of that too! There are times we just want to not worry about money and we have credit cards for it right? Wrong. Eventually, you will pay the bills anyway. Instant gratification is our issue. We charge and charge until we don’t care enough about how much we’ve accumulated because we are already way deep into it.
There’s a way to escape. Remember, if you got there, you can get out of there too~! It will be harder though. It’s like climbing downhill and uphill. Charging (downhill), Paying (uphill). It can be done as long as you know how to outsmart the process.
If you have read my previous posts about the importance of keeping your credit score high, you should know that if you have followed suit – you can bargain the interest rate that you receive from your credit card offers. Did you know that? I had a card one time that chose to increase my credit line ‘because of excellent credit’. I noticed that they increased my interest rate too! Who was on the phone the next second? ME!
After talking to them and telling them that due to my high credit score, I cannot accept the rate that they are charging me and that if they won’t lower it, I will close the account. They lowered my interest rate right there and then and gave me 0% balance transfers which means that I can transfer any amount I owe from other credit cards that charge me a higher interest rate and save lots of earned money. To top it off, they gave me a 12 month 0% promotion! It was a win-win situation.
If you are in debt and you need to get out, you can go to the internet and us their tool to compare credit cards and their rates. If you are currently in trouble with high-interest bearing credit cards, do your research. You can save more money than you think.

What happened to just say no?
It seems pretty scary that after all the effort back in the 80’s by Nancy Reagan to sway kids away from drugs, the statistics today seem to reflect a growing number of teens doing drugs.
Just recently, I read something about high school graduate students ran an operation of drug-dealing in Virginia. And the funny thing is, these kids are the kids that ran Little League sports, and soccer in parks, go to church and participate actively in the community. It is very hard nowadays to keep your kids away from drugs. They are bound to know about it and the more they know about the harms and consequences of drugs, the more they are likely to stay away from it.
The key to this I believe is education. Kids must be educated about how drugs can affect their lives. Parents should really take a hard look at the situation and sit their kids down early enough to understand the risks of it. But for those that have started using drugs,there isTeen Help. They provide everything and anything for parents and teens alike that would help assist in dealing with a teen’s drug problem. The site also provides the 34 basic warning signs to know if your kids are doing drugs.
The site provides a toll-free number that would be of assistance with any questions that you may have on how to deal with the issues surrounding a child using drugs. Saying no is one thing. Understanding what drugs can do to them is another. Sometimes, saying no is not as easy as it seems. I encourage parents, teachers, or anyone that has dealings with teens to visit Teen Help to gain the knowledge about drug abuse and its consequences. It may be more help than you think.

Wedding bells are going to ring next year!
It happened on July 4th! I am talking about my neighbor (the one with the green thumb that I said makes me sick?). Actually, my neighbor really doesn’t make me sick… it was just a term of endearment. I love his garden and we actually have a great relationship. He lives with his girlfriend and we have been neighbors for about two years now.
Every time I would come home from work, he would come out and water his plants. In passing, he mentioned that he is ready to get engaged. He wanted to get the ring but was recommended to go through an unusual route in buying the ring. If you live in the Philadelphia area, the best way to go about it is through Jeweler’s row in Center City. They have lots of jewelers with diamonds of all types and sizes. The route is to go through this Hasidic Jew from New York. The process was unbelievable! You deal with this guy by mail. He will even send you the diamond before you pay for it. You can get it appraised and know the value of the diamond before he even creates the setting. It was amazing.
July 4th. It happened. I was expecting that the ring wouldn’t be ready for months. Apparently, the deal went through and the design was of antique design. I saw the ring and it is gorgeous!!! Here’s a pic. The picture doesn’t do the ring justice. It is the most exquisite ring I have ever seen.
Now the wedding plans begin. They were supposed to go to France this year for a wedding but it was canceled. They have always dreamed of going to Europe. They heard that weddings at B&B Gretna Green in the U.K. is fantastic and are checking out the place. It will be cool to have a U.K. wedding and of course, yours truly is invited. What do you guys think?
Can Inbound Links Increase my Page Rank?
Well, as much bad press I’ve heard about the viral tags that went around last month, I must say that it has increased my ranking with Technorati and Alexa by nth-fold. My blogjuice is now 4.3, Alexa rating is 312,342, Technorati rating is 11,899, Bloglines is 17, and the INBOUND LINKS has increased as well – and it is now at 910!!!! I have 910 inbound links!!!
But,how do I get inbound links? You normally get this through the old-fashioned link exchange where someone found your blog interesting, so they will include you on their blogroll and in return as a courtesy, you link them to yours. Other ways are doing MEME, where you pass along a slew of personal questions to be answered by the parties you tag including a link back to the sender.
One of the most successful ones that I have encountered are the Viral Tags experiment. It will increase you ranking through Alexa, Technorati and Bloglines by the multiple blogs that link to yours. However, I found that the algorithm used by Google’s page rank isn’t directly affected by how many incoming links you have, but how relevant your content is to the the people that link to you. Since the Viral Tags experiment only provides you a link back with no relevance to your own blog content – there was no significant increase in my page rank. How green is green? My neighbor makes me sick!
I know I don’t have the best training when it comes to plants. I love plants and my mom had the blessing of a green thumb that whenever she plants anything, it grows to its fullest! She can pull a dry twig from a tree, put it in water and it will take root and flourish like it was The Creation! We had a garden while in the Philippines and boy, that garden was green!!
I tried to follow suit. Many times, I will try to plant something or even buy the best looking plant from a greenhouse just so that I am sure it will not die on me. FCOL, I kill cactus okay?!! I can never grown anything. My thumb could not be green. The most successful planting I did was when I planted Impatiens on the flower box I have on my porch last year. I could not believe how well that did. This year, I planted the same thing because it was proven that those things don’t really care much – they just grow. Guess what? It’s not growing! I was watering it day and night, putting plant/flower food to sustain it. NADA – - as in Ene, A, Da, A .
And now, I have a neighbor that has the same green thumb as my mom. This guy touches anything and it grows! He bought this small pot of geranium for a dollar. He placed it inside a cheap pot two days ago – and it’s freaking blooming already!! ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Aloha, Hawaii here I come!
Never been to Hawaii? So have I. Always wanted to go and see the islands. People bring back macadamia nuts, the hula grass skirts, the lei and all sorts of festive Hawaiian trademarks. I hear different islands when you book with a travel agent. They ask you how many islands you would prefer to visit. I guess there’s Oahu, Maui, Kauai etc. These islands differ in prices I guess.
I have been checking out websites for Kauai vacation rentals so that I can plan my vacation this year. You see – I plan to go local (if you can consider Hawaii local), rather than international this year. First, my budget prohibits me and secondly I really wanted to visit Hawaii. I chose Kauai because Maui is too familiar, and Oahu sounds the same.
Kauai is quite interesting. Sitting 5,148 ft. above sea level; their high rainfall levels have deep valleys, scenic waterfalls and beautifully carved canyons. I love waterfalls. The sound of water gushing through a river and running from a mountain top seems relaxing and refreshing to me. They said that cascading waterfalls and little streams are Kauai’s best kept secret, Hale O’ Wailele or also known by its English translation “The House of Leaping Waterfalls”.
Uhmmmm Uhmmmm – - *sitting in yoga position imagining I’m on top of a mountain* – - wow, that feels awesome! I just might visit Hawaii on a whim.

Baltimore, c. 1990 – I moved back to Maryland due to my mom’s illness. I wanted spend more time with her just in case. I had to ask for a transfer from my company in New York to our branch in Baltimore. They accommodated my request.
Working in Baltimore was great! It is one of the most memorable chapter in my life. I met friends I never knew I would be even acquainted with. You see, our office is really not in Baltimore but rather on the outskirts of Baltimore. It is always good for marketing to say that our office is in Balimore, MD. although our original office was located in downtown Baltimore – at the World Trade Center. It’s July 4th. I didn’t go out last night to party because I thought it would be best for me to rest instead. I have been sleeping late recently and wanted to catch up on sleep. I have all my agenda ready for today.

Even though my maid moved in with me, it’s much more difficult now cause we have two people in the house. I didn’t know my maid takes two showers a day – one in the morning and one at night before going to bed. She constantly washes dishes and I’ve watched her do it. She doesn’t wash the way I do where I wash everything with soap first and then rinse them all at once. She does it ONE BY ONE!!! Turn the faucet off, turn the faucet on, turn the faucet off, turn the faucet off!! I wonder how my water bill will be next month – with all the showers and the one-at-a-time dishwashing!!! Arrrgggh…

Memorable Love Teams…
In the history of Philippine Cinema, the love team has always been crucial in intensifying the star power of a particular movie. Film producers know that a “kilig” love team determines box-office results to a great extent. No wonder they invest a great deal of money on hyping up the sparks and the chemistry between reel partners.
To keep apace with the romantic trend, talent managers and publicists launch love teams as one of their oldest tricks of the trade. The on-screen partnership of Gloria Romero and Luis Gonzalez in the 1950s lasted for almost three decades with over 30 movies. Even when both found their real-life partners, their countless fans continued supporting their movies.
Now, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) gives you a short list of the greatest, most memorable love teams.
1. Nora and Tirso (Guy and Pip). One of local showbiz’s most popular love teams of all time started in the box-office hit The Musical Teenage Idol in 1969. Their tandem was unusual, say older fans, because for the first time, a morena (Nora) was paired with a mestizo (Tirso). And the unusual became phenomenal! Even Maria Leonora Theresa, the doll given by Pip to Guy, was a sensation.
2. Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion. Before they became a real-life couple (but eventually parted ways), Sharon and Gabby were first paired as a love team in the movie Dear Heart. From then on, they teamed up for numerous teenybopper movies, which made them the most popular love team during the ’80s.
3. Maricel Soriano and William Martinez. Maria was paired with William Martinez in the early ’80s. Their love team was described as wacky. Taray, which used to be the nickname of the Diamond Star, was a cool antithesis to Pabling, as William’s closest friends called him fondly. Read more
Lapband… uhhhmmm what is it?
I was looking for ways to increase my chances to lose weight this summer. I am already drinking the so-called ‘ballerina tea’ which is an herbal tea made in Hong Kong. It helps me but I am not seeing much result since I still eat the same way I used to eat before.
So, there I was – spending unnecessary time online looking for other means. Are there any good exercise routines out there to help me in my quest for a slimmer, fitter body? U came across a website that explains a simpler procedure that is painless, and very simple.
It is a type of Weight Loss Surgery where the idea behind it is to create a small pouch in the upper part of your stomach that would help you control food intake. A gastric band is used to wrap around the upper part of your stomach that would enable this procedure to work. The upper part will represent your ‘new stomach’ which is smaller than your normal stomach. With constant food intake becoming less and less, the individual will begin to lose weight.
Typically Weight Loss Surgery is reserved for the obese where concerns about health is the main issue. I don’t believe I’m at that stage yet but if I ever do, I think I would opt for Weight Loss Surgery. It is a simple procedure, there is no cutting of the stomach, no stapling, and the pouch is calibrated and may be adjusted after the individual reaches their weight loss goal. It is also fully reversible with only a brief hospital stay. It only takes between a half hour to an hour to perform this type of surgery and you are home free to start losing weight.
