Disney’s High School Musical 2
Recently, I read in the paper how much success Disney’s High School Musical 2 has gained among the young teens. It has started to become a phenomenon. I guess, with the success of American Idol and other musicals like Dreamgirls, you can’t help but think that a high school musical would follow suit. And it did!
Just like other Disney films, comes merchandising. I remember hearing at one point that movies make the money but not more than the money mad on merchandising for the same movie. With stars like Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu, who could go wrong?! They now have dress up games for these stars. Fan clubs are starting to pop up everywhere. No doubt, this movie will be phenomenal and would probably have the same following us Grease Musical way back in the days.
My niece, who isn’t even a teen yet (she’s only 10 years old), can’t get enough of Zac Efron. Believe me, the screams in the living room could be deafening. When I stayed with my sister, I should have brought ear plugs with me. My niece and her girlfriends had a slumber party during that weekend and oh my – - I can’t believe 10 year-olds act this way now. I am beginning to understand the phrase my mom used to say to us, “When we were younger, we didn’t do this and that and whatever…you kids are so different these days…” – - I almost died! I am getting older by the minute!
But in fairness to the film, it is definitely entertaining and like all musicals; if it is successful there will be a lot of following. It may be a craze, but hey – - a craze like this only comes once in a while – so let your kids enjoy it.
