KC Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta – The Buzz

Coney Reyes remains good friends with former flame Vic Sotto

connie_reyes.jpg

“Vic and I are friends. Walang problema dun kasi wala namang involved sa amin na third party kung bakit kami naghiwalay. Ako, I surrendered myself to the Lord. Alam niya [Vic], in 17 years hindi ako nagde-date, hindi ako nanlalaki and alam ko nandun yung respeto niya para sa akin,” pahayag ni Coney.

Masaya ring ibinahagi ni Coney ang magandang relasyon ni Vic sa anak nilang si Vico.

“He’s in first year college in Ateneo, taking up Political Science… They’re okay naman, Vic goes to the house every week to visit. Basta lang wala siyang importanteng mga commitment, dumadalaw siya,” saad ng aktres.

Open book ang malalim na relasyon na pinagsamahan nila ng comedian-TV host, na nagsimula nang magkasama sila sa Eat Bulaga. Nang tinanong namin si Coney kung ano ang masasabi niya sa relasyon ni Vic at sa girlfriend nito ngayon na si Pia Guanio, tumanggi siyang magbigay ng mensahe.

“I don’t have a message,” sabi niya. “He has never told me anything straight about anything, so I don’t want to comment about things like that.

Patuloy niya, “Basta ako, I want the best for Vic, I’m praying for the best for him. Hindi natin alam kung ano ang katapusan ng mga istorya, di ba? Ang panalangin ko sa buhay niya, sana maging masaya siya and mangyari sa kagustuhan ng Diyos.”

Happy being alone for seventeen years, open pa ba si Coney sa bagong pakikipagrelasyon?

“Ako kasi, kung ano ang plano sa atin ni Lord, mas maganda sa kung ano ang plano natin para sa sarili natin. Kung plano ni Lord sa akin ay makapag-asawa, yun ang mangyayari; kung hindi, hindi. As of now, sobrang peaceful ng buhay ko, sobrang tahimik. I have three children, okay naman silang lahat. Si Vico nasa college na kaya nga natangap ko itong project na Ysabella,” sabi niya.

Masaya ring ikinuwento ni Coney na sobrang excited siya sa first Christmas nila ng kanyang apo na si Lorenzo Antonio sa anak niyang si LA Mumar, from her marriage to former PBA player Larry Mumar.

“Super excited ako!” bulalas ni Coney. “I don’t know how to make it so happy for me, but I want to make it special and memorable for Lorenzo. He’s five month old now. October na, by Christmas, he’s seven-and-a-half months or eight. Right now, super nagre-react, so ang sarap nang kausapin.

“Actually, wala din siya sa bahay kasi nag-solo na sina LA. So, di ko rin siya nakikita araw-araw. Pumupunta ako sa kanila or sila ang dumadalaw sa bahay,” masaya niyang kuwento.

Pops Fernandez – Interview with Startalk regarding Yes Magazine revelation

Andrea del Rosario to meet up with Hollywood action star Vin Diesel

“But of course, walang mangyayari sa amin ni Vin.

Kahit ang laki-laki niyang lalake, he’s such a gentleman,” dagdag pa ng Viva Hot Babe member.

Not until I feel na ready ako for that kind of life, single muna ako. Mahirap kasi mag-commit kung hindi ka pa ready,” pagtatapos ni Andrea.

The Anorexia Billboard Stopping Traffic!

A new ad is raising eyebrows in Italy!

With piercing eyes and jutting shoulder bones, an emaciated, naked young woman stares down from a billboard just erected in the center of Milan, Italy. The woman, a French actress, says she’s been anorexic for 15 years and weighs a startling 64 pounds. She’s posing naked for Italian fashion label NOLITA to help raise awareness about the deadly eating disorder during the city’s world-famous Fashion Week.

“The Insider” looks at the deadly diet disorders that threaten young girls.

As the world reacts to the controversial anti-anorexia billboard erected in Milan, Italy, this week, “The Insider” looks at eating disorders in the entertainment world.

Young Hollywood is speaking out about the startling billboard images, designed to raise awareness about anorexia.

“I really hope girls see that and it shows them to have a healthy body image,” AMANDA BYNES told us, while “Hannah Montana” star MILEY CYRUS added: “It’s gross. I think the skinny fad needs to be over.”

EMMY ROSSUM remarked that “people really need to feel good about themselves and their bodies,” while LAUREN CONRAD pointed out that “it’s a really big problem in Hollywood and one that needs to be addressed.”

It’s no secret a number of stars have suffered from the disease, both privately and publicly — from PORTIA de ROSSI to BRITTANY SNOW and MARY-KATE OLSEN, we have the latest on stars that have fallen victim to past eating disorders.

Most recently, the young and talented Brittany Snow opened up to MTVU.com about her past issues with eating disorders, saying they began at 12-years-old when she joined the cast of “Guiding Light.”

“I remember looking around at all these women who were on the soap opera who were working out and dieting,” she says, and soon jumped on the bandwagon.

“It kind of progressed into this thing where I needed to always be dieting and losing weight and more weight,” she reveals. “It became my life and I didn’t have any friends and this was definitely my best friend and I held on to it really tight.”

Portia de Rosse admitted in Vogue that she suffered from a past eating disorder, and other TV stars like “Reba”’s SCARLETT POMERS and “The Sopranos” actress JAMIE-LYNN SIGLER have also come forward to discuss their own struggles with food and how they’re doing in their recoveries.

Pomers is now well on the road to recovery after suffering from anorexia for over a year and reaching a shocking 73 pounds. “What my life is now is so much happier and better,” she says.

Mini-mogul Mary-Kate Olsen made headlines when she fell ill and entered a facility to address her disorder in 2005. She emerged from treatment weighing 90 pounds — 10 more than she had entered with.

“Growing Pains” actress TRACEY GOLD was one of the first actresses to come forward with her eating disorder, withering down to a life-threatening 80 pounds 15 years ago. “I didn’t eat,” she has said. “I looked in the mirror and I was like, ‘God I look awful.’”

But Tracey eventually bounced back and today she is a healthy mother of three and is still close with her TV family.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who made a name for herself as mob daughter Meadow Soprano on the HBO hit “The Sopranos,” admits that she also suffered from anorexia, once weighing only 90 pounds. “It’s a tough thing to talk about, but it’s actually therapeutic for me,” she says. She went on to become a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association.

“I’m not completely over it, and I’m in a business where you have to be pretty conscious of the way you look,” she says, “but I’m not going to compromise my health and happiness for it.”

“I think the pressures on starlets to be so thin needs to change,” says LYNN GREFE, CEO of the National Eating Disorders Association.

She feels so many women are competing against each other in a lot of ways. “It’s out of control and it’s unhealthy,” Grefe says. “It’s a legitimate mental illness that is absolutely treatable.”

‘Lust, Caution’ overlong but has moments of beauty, suspense

chuvachienes on Uncategorized

lustinterv1.jpg

NEW YORK – Overwrought and overlong, Ang Lee’s ”Lust, Caution” nevertheless has some moments of exquisite beauty and a potentially star-making performance from newcomer Tang Wei – that is, for those few who can find the time and emotional dedication the film demands.

It’ll be a tough sell, and not just for the NC-17 rating the film famously received for graphic sex scenes that are sometimes brutal, sometimes borrowed from Cirque du Soleil. (Lee himself acknowledged as much recently, saying: ”It’s not very audience-friendly for a market like the US It’s not their subject matter.”)

Based on a short story by beloved Chinese writer Eileen Chang and set in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during World War II, ”Lust, Caution” follows the torrid love affair between top Japanese collaborator Mr. Yee (Tony Leung) and Wong Chia Chi (Tang), a young spy who’s posing as an affluent married woman to lure him into an assassination plot.

Trouble is, she ends up falling for him, and he for her, which Lee captures in tragic noir fashion. The buildup takes awhile, though.

It helps to have read the original story to keep all the players straight – the wealthy wives, the idealistic young members of the Chinese resistance. Lee and writers James Schamus and Wang Hui Ling are slavishly faithful to the details of Chang’s work (the lush clothing, the gaudy jewels) while at the same time vastly expanding on them. (Rodrigo Prieto – who also shot ”Brokeback Mountain,” which earned Lee a best-director Oscar – provides the dramatic cinematography.)

Wong, pretending to be the stylish Mrs. Mak, sits around playing mahjong with Mrs. Yee (Joan Chen, who gets little more to do than look elegant) and her equally status-conscious friends, still clinging to the remnants of their more opulent, prewar life. She’s much younger than the others in the group but has insinuated herself among them for shopping trips and long lunches, all with the ultimate goal of getting close to Yee himself.

As she’s about to meet him at a cafe for a tryst at the film’s start – a meeting that, in theory, should mean Yee’s end – Wong thinks back to how she got involved in this scheme four years earlier. It was 1938 and she was an impressionable college student in Hong Kong. A patriotic campus drama group, led by the passionate Kuang Yu Min (the charismatic, American-born Asian pop star Wang Leehom), recruits her to perform in their first stage production.

She’s good at it – and she’s instantly hooked on the rush she feels while losing herself in a role. This acting skill she never knew she had, and this sensation, prepare her for the part of mistress she will later play when the group sets its ambitious sights on the powerful, traitorous Yee.

Tang’s work here is reminiscent of Naomi Watts’ startling performance in ”Mulholland Dr.,” in that it requires her to be entirely separate, distinct people depending on the situation, a feat she pulls off flawlessly. As a fresh-faced student, she looks and acts as if she’s still in her teens – but put her in a clingy, electric-blue cheongsam with sophisticated hair and makeup and a cigarette between her lips and she immediately becomes a classically dangerous femme fatale. She has a haunting beauty, appears in nearly every scene of ”Lust, Caution” and completely holds her own opposite the far more seasoned Leung.

And Leung, the Asian film icon, functions here as a much darker figure than we’ve ever seen from him in such films as ”Hero,” ”Infernal Affairs” and ”In the Mood for Love.” He can be tormented, sadistic and violent, especially during Yee’s first sexual interlude with the duplicitous Mrs. Mak.

Ah yes, the sex – the thing that has everyone in a tizzy. Lee had to cut a half-hour from ”Lust, Caution” in order for it to be shown in Chinese theaters, but we see it all here. The scenes can be raw, intense, disturbing, acrobatic – they’ll make you crane your head from one side to the other – but, surprisingly, they ultimately turn romantic. Wong’s acting skills eventually begin to fail her as she finds herself surrendering, body and soul, to this man she never ordinarily would have been attracted to but now, unfortunately, loves.

The climactic conclusion also takes awhile to reach, and by then you will have long been shifting in your seat. But any film from Lee simply cannot be disregarded in simple terms; he once again proves he’s a master of mood and complexity of character, whether or not you’re up for the challenge.

”Lust, Caution,” a Focus Features release, runs 156 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four. – AP

THE BETTER SIDE OF THE PHILIPPINES

The following was
written by INTEL General Manager Robin Martin about the Philippines :

Filipinos (including the press, business people and myself) tend to dwell too much on the negative side, and this affects the perception of foreigners, even the ones who have lived here for a while. The negative perception of the Philippines is way disproportionate to reality when compared to countries like Columbia , Egypt , Middle East, Africa , etc.

Let us all help our country by balancing the negative with the positive especially when we talk to foreigners, whether based here or abroad. Looking back and comparing the Philippines today and 1995 (the year I came back), I was struck by how much our country has progressed physically.

Consider the following:

1. The great telecom infrastructure that we have now did not exist in 1995. 1995 was the year the telecom industry was deregulated. Since then billions of dollars have been invested in both fixed line and cellular networks producing a system with over 5,000 kms of fiber optic backbone at a world competitive cost. From a fixed line capacity of about 900,000 in 1995 we now have over 7 million. Cellular phones practically did not exist in 1995; now we have over 11 million line capacity.

2. The MRT, many of the EDSA flyovers (including the Ayala Avenue flyover), the SKYWAY, Rockwell and Glorietta 4, the Fort, NAIA terminal 2 and most of the new skyscrapers were not yet built in 1995.

3. If you drive to the provinces, you will notice that national roads are now of good quality (intern ational quality asphalt roads). I just went to Iba, Zambales last week and I was impressed that even a not so frequently travelled road was of very good quality.

4. Philippine exports have increased by 600% over the past eight years. There are many, many more examples of progress over the last eight years. Philippine mangoes are now exported to the US and Europe .

Additional tidbits to make our people prouder:

1. INTEL has been in the Philippines for 28 years. The Philippines plant is where Intel’s most advanced products are launched, including the Pentium IV. By the end of 2002, Philippine operations became Intel’s biggest assembly and testing operations worldwide.

2. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS has been operating in Baguio for over 20 years. The Baguio plant is the largest producer of DSP c hips in the world. DSP chips are the brains behind cellphones. TI’s Baguio plant produces the chip that powers 100% of all NOKIA cellphones and 80% of Erickson cellphones in the world.

3. TOSHIBA laptops are produced in Santa Rosa , Laguna.

4. If you drive a BENZ, BMW, or a VOLVO, there is a good chance that the ABS system in your car was made in the Philippines ..

5. TREND-MICRO , makers of one of the top anti virus software PC-Cillin (I may have mispelled this) develops its “cures” for viruses right here in Eastwood Libis, Quezon City . When a virus breaks in any computer system in the world, they try to find a solution within 45 minutes of finding the virus.

6 . Today a majority of the top ten U.S. Call Center firms in the U.S. have set up operations in the Philippines .. This is one area in which I believe we are the best in the world in terms of value for money.

7. America Online (AOL) ha s 1,000 people in Clark answering 90% of AOL’s global e-mail inquiries.

8. PROCTOR & GAMBLE has over 400 people right here in Makati (average age 23 years) doing back-up office work to their Asian operations including finance, accounting, Human Resources and payments processing.

9. Among many other things it does for its regional operations network in the Asia-Pacific region here in Manila , CITIBANK also does its global ATM programming locally.

10. This is the first year ever that the Philippines will be exporting cars in quantity courtesy of FORD Philippines. (I have an idea this article was written between 2001 – 2002, so this operation should have been on-going for the last 3 years or so. CYN)

11. The government is shedding off graft and corruption slowly but surely. This is the first time in our history that a former president is in jail and facing charges of plunder. Despite all odds, we are still pursuing the ill-gotten wealth of Marcos now enjoyed by his unrepentant heirs.

Next time you travel abroad and meet business associate s tell them the good news. A big part of our problem is perception and one of the biggest battles can be won simply by believing and by making others believe. This message is shared by good citizens of the Philippines who persevere to hope and work for our country.

56,000,000 Filipinos speak, read and write in English even if we have our own national language. Speaking a second language takes a certain kind of unique intelligence.

I picked up this story from one of my admired bloggers, Pinoyambisyoso.com and found this to be a great cause for all of us Pinoys out there. I wasn’t aware of this until I stumbled upon Pinoyambisyoso’s entry regarding the inclusion of expats in China to bear the torch during the Beijing Olympics 2008. A Filipino named Marco Torres is in the running and we need to help him win the votes. According to Pinoyambisyoso, we are lagging far behind in votes from a Columbian national living in China by about 4000 votes.

Kam on mga kabayan, yakang yaka natin i-out vote yan. Let’s vote for our kabayan, Mr. Marco Torres, an ex-pat living in China. The original write-up by Lester Cavestany entitled “Suportahan Ta Ka (Vote for Marcos Torres as a Torchbearer in the 2008 Beijing Olympics)”. Let’s all get on the bandwagon and vote for him. (You should use IE as your browser as I had trouble voting using Firefox)

Bloggers Rejoice~! SMS-enabled blog is here!

My blogosphere membership is fairly new. I have been blogging seriously since February of 2007 and I cannot believe how much it has grown. More and more templates are created everyday, blog accounts are opened by the thousands daily as well. Why is it so popular? Well, it is the century of information. Bloggers are really powerful now because they have a voice and the technology surrounding blogging is also adapting to the needs of bloggers like you and me.

There are lots of plug-ins that you can use to make your blog more user-friendly and useful as well. It is inevitable that the technology will try to catch up to what bloggers use today as tools. One recent discovery is the Net’s First Major SMS-enabled Blog! Yes! You can actually use the SMS technology to blog. Imagine, as bloggers scramble for content daily – SMS-enabled blogging could equip us more with real-time blogging. Talk about
mobile marketing!!! You can blog about a celebrity-sighting almost instantaneously if ever. Or, you may want to blog about a great night out on the town or even a trip to a memorable place where you can actually describe what you are seeing – REAL TIME!

Along with this would come sms marketing. It will definitely come. What the media has evolved into is no longer the way we used to hear about things. Blogging has been instrumental in spreading the news. If you hear something about the Iranian President’s comments that are offensive, bloggers will definitely be on it like flies on honey. This is a new world we live in now. Being live and real-time via sms marketing is amazing and this technology could spread like wildfire. Check it out yourselves. “American Idol” finalist Elliott Yamin says “Mabuhay!” to the Philippines

elliott_yamin_400×300-778884.jpg

American Idol Season 5 finalist Elliott Yamin admits he hardly dreamed about traveling to places like the Philippines or other Asian countries. A grateful Elliot says, “Thanks for giving me the opportunity to travel all over. That’s a very special thing to me, to be able to share my music.”

A few hours after his arrival in the country last Friday, September 21, Elliott Yamin met the Philippine press at the Glorietta Activity Center for a chat and to promote his shows in the country.

The second runner-up in the last season of American Idol (AI) admitted that he had no formal training in singing. In fact, the presscon’s host Ryan Agoncillo—who hosted Philippine Idol Season 1—noted that just like most Filipinos, Elliott honed his singing skills through karaoke.

“When I was doing karaoke, one of my favorites in [a] karaoke bar is “If You Really Love Me” by Stevie Wonder,” revealed Elliott.

The American Idol Season 5 finalist was known for his rendition of Leon Russel’s “A Song For You” and Tony Hathaway’s “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” during the competition. When asked about his favorite song, he said he couldn’t limit it to just one song but in the end, he picked “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know.”

LIFE AFTER AMERICAN IDOL. Elliott confessed that his life changed dramatically when he became one of the finalists in American Idol. He was grateful that after the finals, opportunities opened for him to have a true career in his life by singing.

“In my whole life, I experienced working in different places—washing dishes, selling sneakers—having all kinds of menial jobs. They helped [me] keep my responsibilities. They helped make me who I am today,” narrated Elliott.

“I think the main…what I appreciate the most is actually that I have a career in an industry where it’s truly hard to establish myself. I was lucky enough to make it as far as I did on American Idol. I also capitalize on this exposure that I gained.”

Aside from pursuing his music career, Elliott is also supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help other people suffering from diabetes, like himself.

Elliott said, “I think it’s really my calling, it’s really my calling to kind of share my voice with the whole world. I’m doing a lot of work with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“I think it’s really my calling to really reach out and touch people and inspire people and be a good person to look up to. I think the fact that I get to play music and travel and touch people through music is just a bonus.”

INDEPENDENT ARTIST. Almost a year after the end of AI, Elliott released his self-titled debut album with a single that is topping the hit charts today, “Wait For You.”

Ryan asked Elliott if he is a “hands-on” musician like other Philippine Idol finalists, who not only sing but can also play some instruments.

Elliott admitted, “I’m not that talented. I can play the guitar a little bit, thanks to my friend. But no, music instrumentation-wise, I’m not into that. I’m more of a vocal arranger—that’s actually my expertise.”

Meanwhile, the AI Season 5 third placer also mentioned that before he became an artist of MCA Records, he released his first album on his own. “I put my record, first and foremost, independently. We’ve done it all on our own, you know,” said Elliot.

Unlike the usual promotion of the other albums, Elliot has a MySpace account, where almost all his songs and gig schedules are available, instead of a traditional personal website. He also produced different album versions for different retailers.

Elliot explained, “We’ve included a couple of bonus tracks to some retailers. That was part of the plan in the beginning. It’s been great, you know, to be able to kind of share the kind of exclusivity to different retailers like that. It’s part of the marketing and promotion.”

YAMINOYS. Elliot was not aware that he already had groupies—who call themselves the Yaminoys—here in the Philippines. In fact, he was surprised to learn that he already had Pinoy fans even before he came here.

Elliott said, “I can’t probably speak for all, but we never really know how big of a following we have and how big American Idol was outside the States.”

But the singer said that he had already interacted with Filipinos in the past. “I’ve got some Filipino friends back home, where I came from, so I just know how warm and friendly the Filipino culture is.”

The American Idol finalist invited the Yaminoys as well as other Filipinos to see him perform at the Ayala Malls.

This past weekend he already performed at the Glorietta Center, Market! Market!, and Trinoma Mall. Elliott will sing at the Ayala Center Cebu on September 26 at 6:00 p.m. and at the Alabang Town Center on September 28 at 6:30 p.m.

TV Ratings (Sept. 24): Impressive debuts for “Zaido” and “Lastikman,” but “24 Oras” grabs the top spot

zaido.jpg

GMA-7’s new telefantasya Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan (left) posted a 34.6 rating on its pilot telecast, while ABS-CBN’s Lastikman (right) got 30.3 percent rating on its premiere telecast. This is according to the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

Two new fantasy series debuted on primetime television last night, September 24—GMA-7’s Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan and ABS-CBN’s Lastikman. The good news is that both shows debuted very well hitting the 30-plus rating, but the bad news is that neither made it to the number one spot overall. The top slot was occupied by Kapuso network’s primetime newscast, 24 Oras, which posted a 35.2 percent rating.

This is according to the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

Zaido’s 34.6 percent rating was quite impressive to grab the second spot overall, while Lastikman’s 30.3 percent was only good for sixth overall. Lastikman’s figure was not even the highest for the Kapamilya network last night since its primetime newscast, TV Patrol World, posted a slightly higher 30.3 percent rating to grab the fifth spot.

Lastikman’s direct competitor, Mga Mata Ni Anghelita, also rated higher last night with 31 percent; although Zaido was still on the air when Lastikman started airing.

Marimar, meanwhile, dropped to fourth place with its 30.5 percent rating. ABS-CBN’s usual toprater, Kokey, also dropped to seventh place by virtue of its 29.2 percent rating.

The rest of the Top 10 were occupied by Jumong (23.9 percent), Pangarap Na Bituin (23 percent), and Ysabella (19 percent).

Meanwhile, the daytime viewing became exciting as some transferees and new shows made their presence felt. Kris Aquino’s game show, Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal, placed second overall with 23.5 percent, behind Meteor Garden’s 24.8 percent. Deal Or No Deal moved from primetime to pre-primetime starting yesterday with Piolo Pascual as its first celebrity contestant.

The new Koreanovela Couple Or Trouble, which replaced Foxy Lady, had an impressive debut with 20.7 percent to land in fourth place. The longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga!, meanwhile, was in third place with 20.8 percent rating.

GMA-7’s Dramarama Sa Hapon block occupied the fifth to seventh place: Kung Mahawi Man ang Ulap, 20.2 percent; Daisy Siete, 18.7 percent; and Pasan Ko ang Daigdig, 18.6 percent.

ABS-CBN’s noontime show, Wowowee, dropped to ninth spot with its 17.9 percent rating, just behind Pilipinas Game KNB’s 18.2 percent.

Here are the Top 10 daytime and primetime shows yesterday, September 24:

Daytime:
1. Meteor Garden (GMA-7) – 24.8%
2. Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal (ABS-CBN) – 23.5%
3. Eat Bulaga! (GMA-7) – 20.8%
4. Couple Or Trouble (GMA-7) – 20.7%
5. Kung Mahawi Man ang Ulap (GMA-7) – 20.2%
6. Daisy Siete (GMA-7) – 18.7%

TV Ratings (Sept. 21-23): “Impostora” closes on a winning note while “The Buzz” reigns again

impostora3.jpg

GMA-7’s soap opera Impostora had the last laugh last Friday, September 21, as it upstaged Marimar for the last time by posting a 37.6 percent rating against the latter’s 35.8 percent showing.

Impostora capped its television stint in flying colors as it emerged as the top-rater overall last Friday, September 21, beating Marimar anew with a 37.6 percent rating. The Marian-Dingdong starrer, however, still fared very well as it posted a total of 35.8 percent rating to settle for the second spot.

This according to the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Deal or No Deal, in the meantime, bid its primetime shift adios also last Friday in its usual 10th spot through its 21.1 percent performance. Starting today, September 24, Kris Aquino’s game show program airs before TV Patrol World.

Incidentally, Deal or No Deal will take the timeslot of Wendy Valdez’s Margarita, which had its final run the same day. Margarita was able to finish strong, landing at the sixth spot on the strength of its 18.4 percent rating.

Daytime programming last Friday belonged to Kung Mahawi Man Ang Ulap, which registered an impressive 22.2 percent marker to snare the top spot away from Eat Bulaga (20 percent, tied at the third spot with Daisy Siete). Also, the Dennis Trillo-Nadine Samonte soap managed to keep its distance from Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig, which posted a 19.3 percent rating; just behind the last episode of the Koreanovela Foxy Lady (19.5 percent).

Saturday, September 22, saw the making of two new exciting shows, Dennis Trillo’s Zaido and Vhong Navarro’s Lastikman.

Zaido, however, got the better of Lastikman as it earned a 22.1 percent to top all daytime programs. Lastikman’s making, meanwhile, nailed the fifth spot with a 16.4 percent rating.

Primetime programming remained pretty much the same just like last week with Michael V’s Bitoy’s Funniest Videos emerging as the top show with an impressive 31.8 percent rating.

Saturday’s edition of Celebrity Duets witnessed the departure of socialite-eventologist Tim Yap. For the said episode, Celebrity Duets got a 25.4 percent rating good for third place.

For the second consecutive week, The Buzz was the king of Sunday showbiz talk shows as it beat Showbiz Central again to occupy the top spot last Sunday, September 23, with a 16.6 percent rating as compared to the latter’s 15.9 percent.

Paolo Bediones’s Tok! Tok! Tok! was still primetime’s number one with a 28.4 percent rating while Bong Revilla’s Kap’s Amazing Stories was a close second with 28.2 percent. Korina Sanchez’s Rated K was the top ABS-CBN program that night as it collected a 22.7 percent rating to take the fourth spot.

Alitang Billy Crawford and KC Concepcion – Kiss and Make Up Interview

Vote for our Pinoy Torchbearer for Beijing Olympics 2008~!

s_11901729789930.jpg

I picked up this story from one of my admired bloggers, Pinoyambisyoso.com and found this to be a great cause for all of us Pinoys out there. I wasn’t aware of this until I stumbled upon Pinoyambisyoso’s entry regarding the inclusion of expats in China to bear the torch during the Beijing Olympics 2008. A filipno named Marco Torres is in the running and we need to help him win the votes.

Fellow bloggers UNITE!! Let’s get him to the top – - the winner will be announced in November and we need to get him there. If you have a blog, I admonish you to blog about Mr. Marco Torres. Let’s show the world we are ONE!

I have never tagged any bloggers but would tag several for this cause.  Reyna, Bluep, BeaCeefive, Pink BiikDom, ChuvanessPazing and Diwa.   No arm-twisting here.  You may or may not blog about this.  I just want to spread the word.  Thanks fellas!

Vote for Marco

I thought this was a good interview of Alan Greenspan.

Iza Calzado starstruck with Jesse Bradford during filming of “Echo”

 jesse_bradford.jpg

PHOTO by Jesse Bradford via Inquirer.net. The H’wood actor took this snapshot with his left hand, recalls Iza.

MANILA, Philippines - On the day she was being fitted with a “face cast” by prosthetic makeup expert Paul Jones on the set of Yam Laranas’ “The Echo” in Toronto, Iza Calzado was grinning from ear to ear.

“He asked why I was always smiling,” recalls Calzado, now back in Manila. “I told him it was because I couldn’t believe I was in Canada, shooting a Hollywood movie.”

To think, she plays an abused wife in the US remake of “Sigaw.” “I was bugbog [battered], emotionally and physically throughout the month-long shoot.”

That was why she had made “cheerfulness” her goal (and coping mechanism): “I simply enjoyed myself.”

Kiddie crush

But who wouldn’t have a blast, having US hunk Jesse Bradford as co-star?

“He was my crush when he was a kid in ‘King of the Hill.’ But I didn’t want to look star-struck, so I played it cool.”

Although she had stopped herself from asking for an autograph, she cinched a snapshot with Bradford. “He took our photo [with his free arm]. He said he was good in taking pictures that way.”

Bradford is a total pro, she recounts. “One time, the stand-in could’ve covered for him, but still he turned up and did the scene with me. I love the feeling when the actor is in the same place, emotionally, with me. I wish we had more scenes together.”

Calzado also has fond memories of screen husband Kevin Durand, Russell Crowe’s current co-star in the hit Western “3:10 to Yuma.” “He’s a very intelligent actor. He asked questions and would discuss scenes with me,” Calzado relates.

She says that she also hit it off with co-star Amelia Warner of “The Seeker: The Dark is Rising” fame. “She said she had watched ‘Sigaw’ and that she liked it. ”

On the set, they gabbed about Philippine beaches, but the “funny thing was, in our scene together, we didn’t get to talk much.”

Just as amiable was Carlos Leon (yup, dad of Madonna’s firstborn Lourdes), who was her “lunch buddy” on her first few days in Canada. “When he first saw me, he thought I was also Latino. He encouraged me to try out for Hispanic roles.”

They ended up chatting about everything—from fruits (watermelon, grapes) to pet causes. “He commended me after learning that I host a public service show (“At Your Service Star Power” on QTV).”

In sum, she tags her Toronto trip, “liberating and fulfilling.”

Liberating, she explains, because she experienced “the freedom of walking in the streets in relative anonymity … and fulfilling because it was a dream come true.”

Back in Manila, she is packing her bags once again, to shoot Adolf Alix and Dave Hukom’s “Batanes.” She is enthusiastic, to say the least. “I saw the trailer of [Alix’s previous film] ‘Kadin’ and found Batanes inspiring.”

New screen guy

Cameras start grinding first week of October. Here, she co-stars with Taiwan’s Ken Zhu, star of “Meteor Garden” and formerly of the boy band F4.

As in “The Echo,” she did research on her co-star, prior to filming.

“I checked out Ken’s website and found out that he does a lot of charity work for children … and that he cooks,” she exclaims. “I love him already!”

KC Concepcion grows up

kc.jpg

MANILA, Philippines—At age 18, KC Concepcion left for France to study at the American University of Paris. She is now one of the institution’s latest alumni—a full-grown woman at 22. In the television special, “KC from Paris to Pinas,” which will be shown tomorrow at 10:30 p.m., ABS-CBN will chronicle the low-profile life she led in the City of Lights.

Loneliness

During the show’s press launch, she spoke of the loneliness she felt during the first few months, the things she missed most about her country, and her immediate plans now that she’s back in town.

Excerpts:

How did it feel to be living away from the comforts of home and family?

Sobrang nakakanerbiyos, because I chose a place where I didn’t have a single relative. I felt like a probinsiyana going to the big city for the first time. It was a decision my Mom supported, and I never regretted it!

My flat was not so hard to maintain—it was so small it could only accommodate three persons! Most important of all, I learned how to budget, because everything was expensive.

Did you bond easily with newfound friends?

The fact that my friends were open to different cultures made it easier. I was also fortunate to befriend persons who were not judgmental. One time, we went to London by train on a study trip for a school requirement. It was a thrilling and educational adventure for all of us.

Tell us about your recent bonding with your father, Gabby Concepcion.

He’s doing fine—he’s successful in his business in California. He was not able to attend my graduation, but he texted me regularly and sent me cards. I plan to visit him again when opportunity comes. It was interesting for me to learn that my dad once shot a movie in Europe, about a girl wanting a miracle. I’ve seen all his films with mom.

Do you intend to follow the footsteps of your Megastar mom?

I don’t know if that’s really my calling, but I’m open to the idea of acting in films. I like the culture of the theater, so there’s no problem there—I like the discipline of the stage performers. Should I decide to do a movie, I want it to have social relevance.

Who is the real KC Concepcion?

I’m the type of person na hindi umuurong sa intriga. I let my work and advocacy speak for themselves!

Alfred Vargas trains with the SWAT Team for his role in “Banal”

alfred_vargas.jpg

akasama na kami sa operations, but we are just being recognized dahil nagtiyaga kaming matuto.

Ginagampanan ni Alfred dito ang role ni Jason Ramos, isang SWAT member who would just do anything for promotion.

“I am expecting na makagawa pa ng isang movie before the year ends,” bulalas ni Alfred. “Natutuwa na ako dahil kahit paano, buhay ang career ko sa pelikula, at hindi lang ako sa TV mapapanood ng mga tao. Palagay ko, hindi buo ang pag-aartista ko kung hindi ako nakakagawa ng pelikula.”

SWAT TRAINING. Sa Banal, para maging higit na credible kanilang pagganap, silang dalawa ni Boyet ay nag-undergo pa ng SWAT training. Hindi ito basta preparation lang para sa pelikula, but Boyet and Alfred received certifications that they are now honorary members of the Makati SWAT Team.

“Hindi naman ibig sabihin na makakasama na kami sa operations, but we are just being recognized dahil nagtiyaga kaming matuto. Pero masaya ako dahil hindi lang para sa role, kahit paano nadagdagan ang skills ko dahil sa training ng SWAT.

“Kung kinakailangan nila ang tulong ko, if worse comes to worst, kung kakayanin ay gagawin ko. Bu, we are just honorary members kaya hindi naman kailangan na sumali kami talaga sa operations,” pahayag ni Alfred.

LOYAL KAPUSO.

KC Concepcion reacts to her mom’s statement that she will be “the biggest ever”

kcblack.jpg

“Wala pa nga akong nagagawa talaga na masasabi ninyong pelikula or album or what. So, if ever naman in the future ma-recognize ako for my, I don’t know, my talent, e, di good. Pero hindi naman ‘yon ang goal ko na maging pinakamagaling or magka-award, or hindi po ‘yon yung goal ko talaga. Kung mangyari po, blessing, great!” replies KC Concepcion when asked to comment about her mom’s, Sharon Cuneta, statement that “KC will be the biggest star ever.”

Marami pang nakakatuwang kuwento si KC Concepcion sa lunching niya as the new Bayo endorser noong September 20 sa Discovery Suites.

“Usually po around ganito po, last quarter of the year. So, pinaplano po naming….iniisip ko nga na baka Kyusi [Quezon City] na ngayon kasi for the last four years, masyado kaming… mga Rockwell, NBC Tent. Ngayon naman, bababa naman kami.”

“BIGGEST STAR EVER.”

Alam n’yo ‘yon?

“Wala pa nga akong nagagawa talaga na masasabi ninyong pelikula or album or what. So, if ever naman in the future ma-recognize ako for my, I don’t know, my talent, e, di good. Pero hindi naman ‘yon ang goal ko na maging pinakamagaling or magka-award, or hindi po ‘yon yung goal ko talaga. Kung mangyari po, blessing, great!”

BILLY’S APOLOGY.

“Well, I don’t know if she [her mother] is. Matakot kayo kung alam ko! Hahaha! But yes, apology accepted naman.”

PIOLO PASCUAL.

Nag-meet kami once, bumabati and…wala lang. Normal lang naman ‘yon na siyempre maghananap ang tao kung kanino ikukumpara. Hindi naman bago ‘yon sa industryang ito, di ba?

“So, ginagawa lang namin yung sarili namin. Nandiyan na yung career niya wala pa akong.. I mean, wala pa akong TV special, may mga teleserye na siya. She’s focused on her career and focus on mine. And we greet each other when we see each other,” pahayag pa niya.

PARIS & FRENCH.
Sa pagtatapos niya ng pag-aaral sa Paris, mananatili na ba si KC sa Pilipinas for good?

“I’ll always visit Paris and I’m here primarily for family and work. So, kung if ever man, gusto ko po sa ibang bansa when I… Kasi pina-practice ko rin ang French and magandang place ‘yon pag gusto ninyo ng rest. Kasi quiet yung place,” saad ni KC.

Ia-advise ba niya ang mga kapatid niya na sina Frankie at Miel na mag-aral din sa Paris?

“Not necessarily, kasi ho, ano rin ‘yon, e… To plan to study abroad is a big decision. So, kailangan na sa kanila yung gusto talaga nila and why. Hindi ko mai-impose sa kanila ‘yon. Ngayon, kung ma-inspire sila dahil Ate nila nagpunta doon or what, puwede.”

NO MEAT, PLEASE.

Ano, outreach namin sa school and how many days kami doon.

“And then, yung beef habang tsina-chop ko yung beef, trinay ko i-chop yung pork.

I mean, kasi kailangan din ng protein and masarap, di ba, mag-grilled tanigue or grilled squid?”

No comparison between Angel and KC–Becky Aguila

kc-concepcion.jpg

Pinag ra-rival ngayon ang dalawang rising stars in Philippine entertainment – - Sina KC Concepcion at Angel Locsin. Pilit na pinagku-kumpara ang dalawa ngunit ika nga ni Becky Aguila ng Inquirer – - there is simply no comparison.

MANILA, Philippines—Angel Locsin’s feisty manager Becky Aguila sent me this text message: “There should be no comparison between Angel Locsin and KC Concepcion. ABS got Angel for her being simple and makatao. Angel had humble beginnings and had to struggle her way up. KC was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Angel admires KC. It’s unfair to compare them.”

C’est vrai! There’s room for everybody at the top especially for Angel and KC, who each deserves her success.

Making up

Dingdong Dantes and Karylle made up for lost time by going out on a date as soon as she came back from her US holiday.

“Dong hasn’t had a free day for a long time and I was away for two weeks,” K said. “We had dinner at Chef Laudicos at the Fort and watched a jazz band at Mandarin. It was sweet because we haven’t had a real date in a long while.”

She brought him many pasalubong: shirts, hats, authentic chili for his fave chili soup and dark chocolates.

Dong’s love team with Marian Rivera doesn’t get in the way of his relationship with K, just as Dong’s love for K doesn’t come between his love for his work in “Marimar” as Marian’s leading man.

Guess list

•Guess who this chanteuse is. During a lull in a talk show’s taping, she approached the director who was quietly reading a book in one corner. When she found out that it wasn’t a Christian book, she was enraged and gave the director a lecture on the Born-Again faith. She even told him she’d send him a Bible so he could read that instead.

The director was stunned! When prayer time came, the singer refused to join the group. Nothing wrong with sharing our beliefs … but we shouldn’t impose it on others. The singer ought to know that not everybody sings the same tune.

•Guess who this sexy star is. She has split up with her longtime live-in partner (a dancer). The reason for their breakup was her jealousy attacks every time he spent time with his kid and ex. Even if they have parted ways, they still stay under one roof. Same house, but different homes for their hearts.

Paris experience

A different side of KC Concepcion will be seen as she shares her life in the City of Light in ABS-CBN’s special, “KC from Paris to Pinas” on Sept. 23 at 10:30 p.m.

Things to watch out for include glimpses of KC’s daily activities, her bonding with newfound friends and keeping her own flat. I’m looking forward to watching it so I can recapture my own student days in Paris.

In spite of her Parisian experience, KC remains a Pinay at heart. No place can ever be called home for her without her Mega mom around.

C’est la vie en rose a la KC!

Falling for Fall Out Boy

Whatever genre they may fall under, it’s certainly no surprise that Fall Out Boy has continued its meteoric ascent to music superstardom since releasing “From Under the Cork Tree” in 2005.

It is still doing so with “Infinity On High.” The group just won the Teen Choice 2007 Awards for Choice Rock Group, with its album is now on its 27th week on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Tomorrow’s show is sold out, but you can probably catch them tonight. Call 911-5555.

September blowout

On its 12th magical year, Enchanted Kingdom pays tribute to our beloved elders with the Grand September Blowout. The Bloomfields will play retro music on Sept. 22 and 29, as will The Tiongco Brothers on Oct. 6.

On Sept. 23 and 30, it’s a date with Frank Sinatra of the Philippines Willy Bayona, Connie Francis of the Philippines Joy Barrett and the Man with a Thousand Voices, Arthur Edano.

Gigs start at 5 p.m. Dolphy will be the special guest on Sept. 22. Call 830-2111 to 16. Cheers to the golden years!

How sweet! My neighbor just got engaged…

Holy smokes! I was so excited for my neighbor when she told me that she got engaged. Well, I knew it already but I had to pretend that I was surprised because her boyfriend consulted me while he was shopping for a ring. The ring that she wanted was out of this world and it looks amazing! It is made with 1.5 carat diamond in an antique setting… it’s gorgeous.

In case you didn’t know, I live right at the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, a skip and a jump over the bridge to Philadelphia. In the heart of Philadelphia lies America’s oldest diamond district called ‘The Jeweler’s Row’. It is world famous and established in the year 1851. I walk these streets daily on my way to work as I take the train going in. I walk from 8th and Market to 5th and Walnut Streets and the streets are laid in cobblestones which is very historic. The Jeweler’s row on Sansom Street between 7th and 8th Streets, on walking distance from the new Pennsylvania Convention Center and Independence Hall. Lined up in that row are hundreds of independent jewelers and you can pick and choose which one you can deal with. I heard that due to the competition within, you can really obtain a high-quality diamond for a real great price!

The only thing that I can’t imagine is how they manage their display. Every day, they put up window displays with hundreds of diamonds ranging from necklaces, rings, to earrings. Then at night, they put it all away. Whew!! Just watching them do this daily tires me out but I guess that’s the nature of the business. Since Jeweler’s row is world-famous, I guess it pays to do that every day.

One of the best Jeweler’s in that row is Katz Imports. They offer a huge inventory of diamond engagement rings, eternity bands, and diamond stud earrings including loose diamonds with GIA and EGL certificates. If you’re looking to get engaged any time soon, you should visit the Jeweler’s row and find the best diamond you can ever find at the reasonable price you deserve.

If you’re looking for an investment and love jewelries.. Diamonds do indeed – last forever.

Personality Disorder – - I didn’t know.

I was browsing comments on my other blog ‘Maximum Male Beauty‘ and found a comment by Prue Haliwell agreeing with me on Chris Evans as one of the most attractive guys in the entertainment industry today. I started reading his blog and found a Personality Disorder Test. I became curious because his result showed HIGH on the Borderline Personality Disorder. I wondered then, what would my results be?

So, I clicked on the link and took the exam myself. Here are my results:

Paranoid: Low click for info
Schizoid: Low click for info
Schizotypal: Moderate click for info
Antisocial: Low click for info
Borderline: Low click for info
Histrionic: High click for info
Narcissistic: Moderate click for info
Avoidant: Low click for info
Dependent: Low click for info
Obsessive-Compulsive: Moderate click for info

Histrionic? High? I wanted to know so I clicked on ‘click for info’ and here’s the explanation:

Quick Summary:

People with histrionic personality disorder are constant attention seekers. They need to be the center of attention all the time, often interrupting others in order to dominate the conversation. They use grandiose language to discribe everyday events and seek constant praise. They may dress provacatively or exaggerate illnesses in order to gain attention. Histrionics also tend to exaggerate friendships and relationships, believing that everyone loves them. They are often manipulative.

Symptoms of Histrionic Personality Disorder:

  • Needs to be the center of attention
  • Dresses or acts provocatively
  • Rapidly-shifting and shallow emotions
  • Exaggerates friendships
  • Overly-dramatic, occassionally theatrical speech
  • easily influenced; highly suggestible

Additional Information:

None at this time.

Sheesuz!! Is this for real? Although I was glad that I didn’t score HIGH on Schizoid, I still wondered about the accuracy of this test. I was about to believe it and call my psychiatrist until I saw how it spelled ‘describe’ and ‘provocatively’. Thank goodness. It’s like reading my horoscope from a bad newspaper publication. In short, this exam is BOGUS. I don’t exaggerate illnesses, I really have terminal cancer and have two months to live!!! And I don’t exaggerate friendships and believe that everyone loves me, it’s the truth – MY FRIENDS LOVE ME MORE THAN THEY LOVE THEMSELVES!!! ;)

Don’t know about you all – but I can’t wait for the Bionic Woman to start
