If you want to save on office supplies, go online!
You all know that I have a business on eBay and my own online store selling DVDs and CDs. My shipping and handling costs always include the cost of packaging because it is a part of doing business. However, envelopes and mailers could be quite expensive if I buy it from a regular store. Even Staples or Office Depot sell them at premium prices.
I normally go to a wholesaler in order to save money and obtain a bigger margin on profit. But the wholesalers usually charge you a membership fee in order to purchase from their store or website. The envelopes and mailers are pretty standard and I don’t really want to pay a lot for them. So, I now go online to purchase them and it saves me both time and money.
Income from shipping is really not considered income as there are postage and packaging costs involved including the labor that I put it to get the items shipped to wherever it needs to be shipped. I always considered the shipping and handling to be a wash when it comes to running my business. Who knew that envelopes and mailers can cost so much. Yet, business is still good and thanks to the online wholesalers, I can continue to do business and make a good profit.
