I am not a handy man – nor do I have a man handy.
If you have ever hired a contractor in your life to do some work in your home, you would know exactly what I mean when I say – I wish I knew how to fix that! It is hard for me now that I own a home, to take care of all the things that require maintenance. When I used to live in an apartment, I could just call the ‘super’ and be done with any troubles that may be in my apartment. This time, I have to either hire a contractor and pay a premium or learn to do it myself.
As an example – when I had my kitchen renovated, I didn’t know that putting up kitchen cabinets takes only a few screws and another person to hold the cabinets while you attach it to the wall? It has caused me more money with the labor used in my kitchen than the kitchen cabinets and appliances as well. If I had known that, I may have saved thousands of dollars.
Recently, we had a toilet leak that caused my water bill to surge to an ungodly amount. I was determined to find out the cause. It was due to a faulty floater in the toilet. I had been wanting to fix it for a while but I didn’t know how. I went online before I left for vacation and found the exact type and model of toilet that I had, I found out that there is an adjustable water level wire that I could adjust to accommodate the level of water in the tank for the bubbler to work. I tried it – - DONE in two minutes. I could have spent more bucks buying the complete set thinking that it was broken but ‘knowledge is power‘. Once you know it, you will always retain it.
My advice to my cousin that, buy resale homes to improve them and resell them – - learn to do the maintenance yourself. Investments can go farther if you do. You’lll never know – if you become successful at this, I may just have to jump in with you on your investments.

Gossip Girl – Is this show about me?

It’s about a blogger who runs a website blogging about her fellow Upper East Siders consequently stirring the pot and feeding potential rivalries in this exclusive and vicious circle of friends. Even bloggers have their own space on TV now? I think this is good exposure for me. I write things down you get to decide what you do with it. Just like Gossip Girl! Gossip Girl is an upcoming American television teen drama created by Josh Schwartz, creator of The O.C., and Stephanie Savage. The show is based on the novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York’s Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions whilst dealing with sex, drugs, and other teenage issues. The series mainly centers around the lives of best friends, Serena van der Woodsen ( Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf ( Leighton Meester), and their shared romantic interest, Nate Archibald ( Chace Crawford). As outsiders looking in, Dan ( Penn Badgley) and Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) do not run in the same social or financial circles as their peers but are drawn into their lives nonetheless.

Martin Nievera not yet invited to ex-wife Pops Fernandez’s anniversary concert
Martin Nievera has not yet been invited to the upcoming concert of his ex-wife Pops Fernandez scheduled on December 7 at the Araneta Coliseum. Pops will be celebrating her 25th anniversary in the music industry as the reigning Concert Queen.
Based on the Startalk interview with the former couple yesterday, September 15, there was a misunderstanding about Martin’s possible guesting at the concert.
“Baka akala ni Martin we’re committing him without him knowing. Ang nangyari kasi nga, e, it came out even before we decided. I think, Arnold [Vegafria, Pops's manager] kasi was quoted that he wanted to invite Martin. Kumbaga lumabas ‘yon bago pa siya na-invite,” Pops explained.
“If I’m in town and I’m really invited and they really want me, there’s no reason why I would not say ‘No’,” Martin replied.
HE SAID, SHE SAID. In that same interview, Martin admitted they are not yet on speaking terms and that Pops hasn’t been replying to his text messages.
Pops, though, denies it. “No, that’s not true. When it comes to my kids. I text him back.”
Pops continued, “Martin is the type who never calls and just would send you long messages… Texting kasi is so impersonal. Sometimes kasi when you text, okay yung tone mo, pero yung nakakabasa sa kabilang side, iba na yung tone. Sometimes, that’s where a lot of misunderstanding happens… Kumbaga, nagkaroon kami ng samaan ng loob because everything was done through texting. Siguro, mga isang beses lang ako hindi nakasagot sa kanya.”
Regarding the rift between the two, Pops believes that Martin doesn’t know yet the reason why she got hurt.
Martin, however, clarifies that he’s not waiting for Pops to make the first move. He believes that it should be him doing the first move but is waiting for things to cool off.
Pops agrees that the right time will happen.
JOMARI YLLANA. Meanwhile, Martin said that Pops’s current boyfriend, Jomari Yllana, is still silent to him—a sign that Jomari could still be sympathizing with Pops.
According to Martin, who was going to have dinner with his sons one time, did try to invite Jomari to join them.
Pops though heard that about the invitation, but stops short that she can’t reply for Jomari.
“I think he didn’t get the text right away. So, by the time yata nakapangatalong text na [si marton], doon niya lang nakita,” she said.
TVRatings (Sept. 10–13): Marimar hits 39.3 percent; surpasses pilot rating
Just like any race dealing with statistics, GMA-7′s Marimar is showing frequent highs and some moderate lows. But like any competent warrior engaged in a tough competition, any setback means sufficient reason to regain ground.
And what a way to bounce back.
A day after tying its pilot episode rating, the tandem of Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera in Marimar showed sufficient grit as it registered a whopping 39.3 percent showing last September 13, Thursday, based on the overnight survey conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households. The impressive number came a day after Marimar matched its debut rating of 38.3 percent.
The said performance was more than enough to keep close competitor Impostora at bay, at least for the week. Impostora for its part managed to keep in step last Tuesday, September 11, as it gathered a 33.1 percent rating against Marimar’s 34.9 percent clip.
Daytime programming, meanwhile ,showed a lot more movement as GMA-7′s Meteor Garden and ABS-CBN’s Game KNB? took turns in breaking Eat Bulaga’s hold of the top spot.
Meteor Garden took September 10, Monday, with a 21.5 percent rating while Game KNB? wrestled the lead last September 12, Wednesday, by its 22.4 percent performance.
The TV coverage of the announcement of former President Erap Estrada’s guilty verdict also figured prominently at the ratings last September 12, Wednesday. GMA-7′s coverage posted 21.7 percent rating compared to ABS-CBN’s 15.5 percent. Both coverages landed on the Top 10 daytime programs that day.

On the set of ‘The Echo’ with Iza Calzado
TORONTO, Ontario, Canada—We continue with our coverage of our visit to the set of “The Echo” in Toronto: We chatted with Iza Calzado, who reprises her role in Yam Laranas’ American remake of his film, “Sigaw.”
Yam brought us to Iza’s trailer for this interview. Of Yam, Iza said: “The cast and crew enjoy working with him. They say he’s a cool guy. It’s a relief to have him as director of my first international film—he makes me proud!”
Iza recently met Kevin Durand, who plays her policeman husband in “The Echo.” “He’s 6’6” tall!,” she exclaimed.
As for the film’s lead actor, Jesse Bradford (“Flags of Our Fathers”), Iza claimed the actor is now addicted to dried mangoes. Iza had brought with her many packets of this Philippine snack. She recounted her father’s warning: “Anak, baka harangin ka sa Customs sa dami ng dala mong dried mangoes!”
Iza said that, in one scene with Jesse, he couldn’t stop laughing. She explained that he was amused at the unusual situation he found himself in during the scene.
He eventually suppressed the fit and finished the scene, which we’re sure will be one of the film’s scary highlights. She also showed us pictures she took with her camera, when she was being fitted with a harness.
Carlos Leon, Madonna’s ex and father of her daughter, Lourdes, is done filming his part. Iza shared, “Carlos was the first actor I acted with. He’s very nice. He was my lunch buddy for a couple of days.” She also found a lot of things in common with Amelia Warner, who plays Jesse’s girlfriend.
Prosthetics
Jamie Bloch, who portrays Iza’s daughter, passed by. The young actress, similarly attired as Iza, had a mass of frizzy hair, which was sprayed to look darker. She had prosthetics on, but her face was not made to look as battered as Iza’s. “She’s sweet, beautiful and smart!,” Iza described Jamie.
The 25-year-old actress is enjoying her first time to be on her own. “In Manila, I’m always surrounded by people. I love talking to people, but I also like having all this time to think!”
What she misses most about Manila is having her own personal trainer. She goes to the gym in her Toronto apartment building. Iza’s LA-based boyfriend, Jerry Garcia, who manages a rock band, has visited her here.
When we stepped out of her trailer, Iza introduced us to Paul Jones, the veteran make-up artist (Clive Owen’s “Shoot ’Em Up”) who created her heavily bruised look.
After finishing her scenes this week, Iza will fly back to Manila today (Saturday), to plunge right back into her busy TV schedule, and to begin a movie with Taiwanese actor cum pop star, Ken Zhu, which will be shot in Batanes.
The plot of the movie, to be directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., sounds interesting: A Taiwanese fisherman, washed ashore in Batanes, meets Iza and, despite not knowing each other’s language, they fall in love.
Sweet smile
With a sweet smile, Iza bared, “I ‘visualized’ playing the role in ‘The Echo.’” Despite the obstacles that seemed to initially block her chances of reprising her role, Iza believes that her positive outlook made it possible for her to finally make it to the Toronto set. She “visualized” the “Batanes” role, too.
“Now, I ‘visualize’ that I will be guesting on Oprah’s show someday!,” she mused. With her success rate at this unique practice, Iza just might be meeting Oprah soon!
Later, Iza gave us an update via e-mail about filming her most important scenes in “The Echo”: “I was beaten up by a 6’6” guy (Kevin Durand) today. Our scene was so intense—I spent half the day crying! He’s such a good actor; I love working with him. In real life, he’s the opposite of his character. He’s a sweet, gentle guy!”
Rustom Padilla’s gay redemption: Urian award
MANILA, Philippines — It was a shining moment for an actor whose courageous disclosure of his sexuality appears to have triggered discord within his tightly knit family. At Thursday night’s rain-drenched 2007 Gawad Urian at the Henry Lee Irwin Theater on the Ateneo de Manila University campus, he said he hoped his victory was a step closer to “being with [them] again.”
The now openly gay Rustom Padilla, who had been launched as a matinee idol in the past decade, brought home the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino’s top male acting plum for his work in Regal Films’ “Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeh,” in which he portrayed as a homosexual character.
“Sana ang panalo kong ito ay patunay ito na kayang gawin ng isang katulad ko ang makamit ang ganitong karangalan” [“I hope this triumph is proof that someone like me could aspire for such an honor as this”], a teary-eyed Padilla told the Inquirer.
The moment was extra special, he said, because the trophy was presented to him by his brother, Robin Padilla, a previous winner of the same award for “La Visa Loca.”
After announcing that Rustom had won in a tie with veteran actor Mark Gil — who was cited for his portrayal of a disillusioned tabloid reporter in the independent film “Rotonda” — Robin promptly approached his brother and hugged him.
“I didn’t know that Robin would be the presenter,” Rustom said. “In fact, I didn’t know he was here. I can’t wait to see my family.” Rustom admitted that he had not spoken with his mother, former actress Eva Cariño, for quite a while. He had been skipping family reunions, he added, to avoid “confrontations.”
Surprise party
Rustom was visibly elated when a female reporter told him about Robin announcing that their family was planning a “surprise” to celebrate the victory. It is Rustom’s first-ever acting trophy.
It is also Gil’s first Urian Best Actor award, although he has won for supporting roles in the past, including the acclaimed 1982 film, “Palipat-lipat, Papalit-palit.”
Gil’s son, Sid Lucero, was also a nominee for Best Actor, as star of the independent film, “Donsol.” Other nominees in the category were Ryan Agoncillo for “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo,” Alchris Galura for “Batad sa Paang Palay,” Mario Magallona for “Rekados” and Jett Pangan for “Tulad ng Dati.”
The internationally acclaimed “Kubrador” took a total of five trophies: Best Picture, Best Actress for Gina Pareño, Best Director for Jeffrey Jeturian, Best Production Design for Leo Abaya and Best Cinematography for Roberto Yñiguez.
Prestigious win
Pareño’s win hardly came as a surprise — she had won the same recognition in several international film festivals. However, Pareño told the Inquirer that this one, also her first Urian, was special. “This is prestigious. Kaya ako’y nagagalak na naipanalo ko ito kahit mas matanda pa ang career ko sa Urian.” [“I’m glad I got this, even though my career is older than the Urian.”]
Other Best Actress nominees were Jonalyn Abong for “Manoro,” Cherry Pie Picache and Angel Aquino for “Kaleldo,” Andrea del Rosario and Mylene Dizon for “Rome and Juliet,” Judy Ann Santos for “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo,” and Maricel Soriano for “Inang Yaya.”
“A director’s dream” was how Best Director winner Jeffrey Jeturian described Pareño’s performance in “Kubrador” as a bet collector for the underground lottery “jueteng.” He told the Inquirer that “Kubrador’s” victory was also for all independent filmmakers.

Best screenplay
Chris Violago and Connie Macatuno won Best Screenplay for “Rome and Juliet,” a fresh take on the travails of lesbian relationships. John Torres bagged the Best Editing plum for “Todo Todo Teros,” an intriguing story of terrorism and global security as they affect ordinary people’s lives. Ronald de Asis took the Best Sound trophy for “Tulad ng Dati,” a peek into the rise of one of the country’s leading rock bands, The Dawn.
The independent circuit likewise became the route for Rafael Rossell to reach his own career milestone. He won Best Supporting Actor for “Rome and Juliet,” over the likes of Soliman Cruz (“Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo”), Domingo Landicho (“Kubrador”), Alan Paule and Lauren Novero (“Kaleldo”), Epy Quizon (“Rotonda”), Ping Medina (“Tulad ng Dati”) and Archie Adamos (“Raket ni Nanay”).
Meryll Soriano was proclaimed Best Supporting Actress for the film “Rotonda.” She wasn’t around to receive the award, as she had just given birth. Her uncle, Mel Martinez, went up the stage in her behalf. Soriano was up against Gloria Diaz and Gina Pareño (“Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo”), Pops Fernandez (“Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeh”), Agot Isidro (“Tulad ng Dati”), Liza Lorena and Tala Santos (“Inang Yaya”) and Tessie Tomas (“Rome and Juliet”).
This year’s Natatanging Gawad Urian Award was bestowed on Marichu Vera-Perez Maceda for her outstanding contributions to the local film industry.
Close call for Vanessa Hudgens

MANILA, Philippines—After “High School Musical 2” pulled in a record 17 million viewers on cable TV, its female lead, Vanessa Hudgens, was flying high. Her career arc soared even higher when she won an award for Female Breakout Artist at the Teen Choice Awards.
The Fil-Am comer wowed the viewing public even more when she proclaimed that she wanted to be a good, clean-living role model for other teens.
Inspiring proclamation
—What a difference a couple of weeks make! Soon after she made that inspiring proclamation, Vanessa’s high-flying career crashed with a thud and threatened to self-destruct when her nude photo was made shockingly public.
Naturally, all righteous hell broke loose as media pundits underscored the bittersweet irony of the purported “good role model” suddenly revealing the naked, shocking truth.
The fact that she was still in her teens made the exposé even more alarming. And the fact that the “High School Musical” series of TV movies were produced by squeaky-clean Disney Channel added to fears that the young singer-actress would be pulled out of the series’ next sequel, set to be produced for the big screen.
Most fearful of all were Vanessa’s Filipino and Fil-Am fans, who empathetically shared in her success—and now, possibly in her impending debacle.
How ironic that this sweet Pinay talent would now be disparagingly talked about in the same shoddy league as other celebrities, like Paris Hilton and Vanessa Williams, whose sexy photos or tapes also went lewdly public.
Sincere apology
To her credit, Vanessa quickly issued a sincere apology for the unauthorized release of her nude photo. Her defenders just as quickly pointed out that it wasn’t a published photograph, as in William’s case, but a private photo which was “mysteriously,” maliciously leaked to the public.
Those actions helped still the turbulent waters a bit, but everyone waited with bated breath for Disney’s official reaction. Only when it came did Vanessa and her supporters breathe a collective sigh of relief: Disney opted to retain Vanessa’s services for its current and subsequent projects—so, after her painfully close call, she was finally home free!
Disney’s reaction disappointed some people who wanted the studio to uphold its “general patronage” standard. They accused Disney of opting to protect its financial investment in Vanessa, rather than vivifying its vaunted principles.
Embarrassment
On the other hand, Disney was praised for having a big enough heart to forgive Vanessa despite the embarrassment she had caused the studio and channel. They correctly maintained that everybody deserved a second chance—and that included Vanessa.
What a relief! Vanessa can now continue to further her career and perhaps eventually fly higher in US entertainment than any Fil-Am talent to date.
We trust that her “shocking” experience has made her a wiser person: Absolutely no more “private” nude photos, please!

Destiny, fate, call it whatever you want.
I have a friend who graduated from University of the Philippines. He is smart, intelligent and have lots of potential. He arrived in the United States after his stint at the Royal Gardens in the United Kingdom some years ago. He was in charge of the Royal Gardens’ Landscape Design. He obtained that scholarship from the Elks Organization I believe. He was so close to getting through his Masters in Horticulture and Landscape Design when he decided to come to the United States and start a life here instead.
Why would someone with such talent do such a thing? I don’t know. But each of us have their own destiny. As much as he enjoyed studying horticulture, he opted to move to the U.S. because he believed his life would be better here than in England. He is a gay man and he wanted the freedom that the United States offer.
Arriving in the U.S. with only a few dollars to his name, it was quickly spent on a motel where he would stay for a couple of days leaving him no money for food. He was teary-eyed while he was telling me a story about himself walking in the streets of Philadelphia with nowhere to go and nothing to eat. As he walked with his head bowed down in despair, he was saying a prayer. “God help me.”, he uttered. In an instant, as he kicked the pebbles on his way – he saw a dollar right on the ground. He cried and thanked God because then, he could buy a chocolate bar or something that could fill up his empty stomach.
That was about twenty years ago. He now works as a chef and co-owns an Italian restaurant in Philadelphia. He is in the U.S. legally now with all his papers intact. Most of all, the country he believed him provided him the shelter and the comfort that he desperately needed in time of his despair.
Was it destiny, was it fate? Call it whatever you want – but I call it, the Grace of God.

My other Madonna and Child – Sharon Cuneta and KC Concepcion
I am an avid collector of anything that is Madonna and Child. The collection is huge now. I have a Lladro figurine called ‘Virgen de los Amparados’, and ‘Mater Amabilis’, other figurines made of different materials are displayed all over my home. Some made of clay, of candle wax, stones from Mexico, and many more. Maybe its because of my fond relationship with my mom and the Blessed Mother. I also have a collection of all kinds of wall decor made of wax, resin, wood, ceramic, porcelain – - all with Madonna and Child from different parts of the world. But, I am making an exception dahil itong Madonna and Child ko ay hindi from heaven… but creatures of heaven on earth. Walang iba, kundi si Sharon at KC Concepcion!!
Teka lang mga cheezmaxkers! Alam ninyo ba kung bakit ako patay na patay sa maginang ito?! Dahil, they are both so down-to-earth! Unang unang hate na hate ko ay ang mga celebrities na ‘pretentious’! I am posting KC Concepcion’s interview with The Buzz last Sunday. Just watch her. She was educated in Paris, France and most definitely the best schools in the Philippines. Sabihin ninyo sa kin kung gaano siya ‘makatao’. She doesn’t even brag na milyon milyon na ang pera nila… she acts so simple, yet she is soooo elegant. I am actually comparing her to Princess Diana – I don’t know why. She has the persona which attracts people – - the charisma that her mother has.

Billy Crawford on KC Concepcion: “I said nothing derogatory about her.”
Dahil naiintriga lately ni Billy Crawford kay KC Concepcion, minabuti ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na kunin ang reaksiyon ng international singer sa pagtawag diumano sa kanya ng anak ng Megastar na si Sharon Cuneta ng “ungentleman.” Ito ay nag-ugat sa radio guesting ni Billy sa show ni DJ Mo Twister noon, kung saan sinabi diumano ni Billy na nahalikan na niya si KC.
“I haven’t seen or talked to KC for a long time. Mga one year na siguro kaming hindi nag-uusap man lang and the said issue was a long, long ago issue pa. Ang hirap kasi dito sa atin, pinipik-ap lang ang negative at ini-ignore na yung mga magagandang bagay na sinabi ko,” sabi ni Billy sa presscon ng first major concert niya sa Pilipinas na It’s Time, na ginanap kaninang hapon, September 12, sa Tramway Garden Buffet sa Timog Ave.
“In that said radio interview,” patuloy niya, “we were having fun and it was made clear then na katuwaan lang ang lahat. It was a six o’clock [morning] radio program that intends to generate fun and laughter lang. Malinaw na malinaw sa pagkakatanda ko na nagbigay kami ng warning na nothing serious should be taken out of the remarks that I would say. I said nothing derogatory about KC, pero dun sa mga pumik-ap ng isyu, negative pa ang ipinalabas and they made it controversial.
“But I did apologize. Kay KC, kay Tita Sharon, o kung kay Direk Lino [Cayetano, KC's rumored boyfriend] man dun sa palagay nilang hindi maganda sa sinabi ko. Ayoko na talagang magbigay ng kahit anong comment on KC hangga’t hindi ko mismong naririnig sa kanya ang mga ganyan at hindi pa talaga kami nagkakausap. I have nothing but respect and praises for her,” paliwanag ni Billy.
Meanwhile, Billy honestly opined that he somehow has something to thank for on the issue about him and KC.
“Kasi kung hindi nababanggit ang name ko, e, baka mag-iba na ako ng trabaho. Parang ganun lang ‘yon, e. Pag napag-uusapan ka, meaning may interes sa iyo ang mga tao. May mga magpapa-picture o magpapa-sign.
“Sanay na ako sa ganyang bad press, even in France o kung saan man ako may show. It’s just that dito nga sa atin, usung-uso yung pagpapalaki ng isyu kahit you meant no harm or bad to a person lalo pa’t kaibigan mo naman,” sabi pa ng dating child star.
Naitanong din ng PEP kung plano niyang imbitahan sa concert niya si KC at ang pamilya nito.
“Of course, it would be great!” sagot niya. “Papadalhan ko sila ng tickets at sana nga mapanood nila ang show dahil it’s worth their time. Mas maganda na ‘yon kesa dun sa mga negang usapan.”
Twenty two years na sa showbiz ito si Billy. Grateful siya na sa mahabang panahon na ito ay natutunan niyang maging responsable at rumespeto sa kapwa.
Nakalakihan na raw niya sina Sharon Cuneta kaya’t nahihiya siyang ma-drag muli ang pangalan ng mga ito, lalo pa’t may show siyang pinu-promote. Pero sa huling pagkikita naman nila ni Sharon sa premiere ng Ouija last July, ay paulit-ulit niyang ginawa ang paghingi ng sorry dahil sa taas ng respeto niya rito bilang isang tao at magulang ni KC.
BILLY BEHIND THE CAMERA. One year to go na lang si Billy sa kanyang Studio Engineering course sa New York University at plano niyang makuha na niya ang kanyang diploma soon.
At 25 years old, focus ni Billy Joe ang kanyang singing and recording career pati na rin ang ilang movie offers from international movie outfits. He still sees Philippines as his mother home at kung in the near future nga ay mag-settle down na siya, he wants to raise his family sa Pinas.
“Sobrang iba dito!” bulalas niya. “If ever na magkakaroon na ako ng mga anak, I want them to stay here, study here first, bago siguro sumubok sa ibang bansa.”
Pinay pa rin daw ang preferred wife-to-be niya, though he had his last serious relationship three years ago with a foreigner that lasted only for less than a year.
“Iba kasi ang attitude ko pagdating sa priorities. Nagkataon lang na marami pa akong gustong ma-achieve as a singer and an artist, kaya’t kaya kong mabuhay na walang seryosong lovelife,” sabi niya.
Happy naman daw siya sa kanyang mga ginagawa at wala siyang oras para sa mga “earthly desires/needs,” including one-night stands.
“Not my interest at all. Hindi ko talaga linya ang mga ganyan,” ang natatawa nitong sabi.

MANILA, Philippines—When I came across the blog of Lea Salonga entitled “Showbizzzzzz,” , I could not resist asking her permission to share it with you, dear readers. Luckily, Lea agreed.
May it serve as a wake-up call to some show biz folks who thrive on inane controversies. Although intrigues and scandals come with the territory, celebs should not exhaust all means just to generate publicity. If there’s anything that perishes in an overkill, it’s the public’s adulation.
Here goes, from Lea to … them:
“I don’t think anyone has the right to intrude in your life, but they do. I would like people to separate the actress and the woman.”—Ingrid Bergman
“Obviously the late Ms Bergman has never seen the likes of Philippine show business… how colorful, intrigue-laden and downright ridiculous it can be.
“I’ve been in this business for nearly 30 years, if you can believe that. I started as a wee little girl in the ensemble of a musical and it kept going from there. My world was the theater and the adults I emulated were those from the theater. I was not much of a movie fan, and wasn’t really into what was happening in that world. But, I did enter the more mainstream areas of the business, including film, TV and music. And … and … well …
“I know that things that happen in our world get blown up and multiplied many times over, simply because we’re in the public eye, and thus are open to public scrutiny and criticism. It’s human nature for people on the outside to want to peer into our fishbowl and watch us swim. Dirty laundry
“As a person from show business, I accept that the public at large will be curious and want to know about what happens in private. But what I don’t appreciate is when people from show business inflict their private lives upon the rest of the world. Their scandals, their dirty laundry—the things in their world that no one else has the right to know. It’s one thing when you’re found out; it’s another thing altogether when there’s an onslaught of way too much information from an actor or a singer or a TV host. Heck, I feel violated when bombarded with stuff I didn’t want to hear or see.
“Yeah, show biz is a place that the faint of heart must steer clear of. It isn’t for the onion-skinned or the garden variety cry baby. But I’d like to think that neither is it for those who are so starved for attention that every single family fight, every affair gone bad, every shabu pipe counted is plunked on our collective lap. Hopefully, it’s for those who want the attention based on the quality of their work and not on the darker, shadier sides of their private lives. I’m a show biz fan, too, and I really don’t care to hear about a colleague’s dirty laundry. It’s none of my business, and I like keeping it that way.
“Am I being an idealist? I do know that tawdry news sells magazines and makes the rounds of the gossip shows faster than a speeding bullet. But still …”
Morning tryst
A separated actor went out drinking with the hubby of a beauty queen-actress. It could have been just a typical boys’ night out, until the actor’s ex-GF-actress came by at around 5:30 a.m. Her driver dropped her off at the bar.
She left with the actor and the beauty queen’s husband. Maybe it was just a spur-of-the-moment breakfast date or are they on the verge of a reconciliation? Will their early morning tryst cause the “mourning” of the actor’s current GF if and when the ex-lovers get back together?

My moment. It’s time to put my feet back on the ground.
I was reading a ‘buddy’s” ( I know you have a copyright protection – pero I need to post it eh…) blog just now and I was touched by what he wrote. His entry contained these words:
“During times of trials when everyone has left you or abandoned you, God is the only one who never leaves your side. In Him Alone is the Love that no money can ever buy, and no person can ever give. Trust me, I’ve been there and since then no amount of human love has ever eclipsed the love that God has given me, everyday of my life.”
Today is my ex-boyfriend’s birthday. September 10th. Last year, we spent his birthday in Italy while we traveled between Florence and Rome. It was the greatest time. There were no fights, no ‘tampuhan’, nothing! It was just a simple trip where we both got to know each other very well. He was the one that planned all our tours and to know that we will be walking all day on foot while visiting the ruins, so he made it a point to map it all out where we would end up closest to our hotel and rest until we go to dinner that night.
Love as we all know it do come at the weirdest moment in our lives. It is something that you look for all your life and you chase it and chase it until you become weary. But the moment that you stop chasing, and the minute that you sit back and watch – he or she will come. That’s what happened to us.
Anyway, I don’t want to bore you with all the details. I was doing fine but today, I felt sad again. I sent him an email last night wishing him to have the best day today. I wanted to get in touch with him, not to get back together but to repair the silence. Can we at least keep our friendship? Is this how it’s going to end?
When I didn’t receive a response – I knew it. This IS HOW it is going to end. That is very unfortunate. It is sad. But like what Pink Biik wrote on her comment ” But one day these tears, They will all run dry, I wont have to cry sweet goodbye”. At that point, I couldn’t help it – I had to look up and say to God, “It’s you and me Lord. I need you right now. I need you to comfort me.”
What happened next was amazing. I felt His presence and warmth. He was here. “In Him Alone is the Love that no money can ever buy, and no person can ever give.”
To my friend, and ma sister – thank you for helping me get through this. I am being called to something greater. I will listen. I will follow.

Happy Birthday Mother Mary!
Naalala ko pa nuon tuwing Wednesday ay nasa Baclaran Church kami para mag-novena kay Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I have always been close to the Blessed Virgin, siguro dahil na rin sa pagiging close ko to my mom more than my father. I have always felt that I can approach my mom for anything.
Today is the Blessed Mother’s birthday – September 8th. I wanted to give this to her for without her guidance and her strength, I wouldn’t have a source to draw from.

Remember, I went to five cities in Asia in a matter of two weeks. Our biggest office was in Shanghai and they treat you like a king (well queen for me – he-he!)
One thing I neglected to do was carry a lot of business cards with me. I only took a handful since I thought I would only be meeting with the top executives from Asia Pacific. I was promoting a product that we launched recently and they needed training in order to sell the product to their customers. It was such a great trip and meeting all sorts of people was a treat during that trip.
I am not sure if it’s customary but when I met these people during my training sessions, each one would come up to me and give me their business cards. They give it to you with the imprint facing you and with both hands. After a couple of them traded business cards with me, I picked up the trait. I would generally start my training by introducing myself and would go around handing my business card to the people present.
The one thing that I admired about our overseas offices, each one had a business card of their own. Comparing them to the staff that works in our U.S. offices, if you are not in the management level, you don’t get one. I think it’s a great loss because business cards open a lot of doors for people. I collected about 150 business cards during that trip. I ran out of business cards to hand out. I realized that it is important to carry more than enough for a trip such as that. For a person not good with names, their business cards helped me associate their faces to their cards.
Lesson learned. Next time – I won’t leave home without it.
Fruits of my labor – Blogging for Money.
I am getting sick of maintaining my home. I am tired of it. Yet, there is no other choice. I have to change whatever it is that I don’t like in my home. Just imagine. We painted the living room, added recessed lighting, and had a my kitchen remodeled. Whatelse? I have so much expenses from those that I thought I would stop.
I have been blogging seriously for about three months now and you can see from my State of Making Money while blogging address that I have earned over 1400 USD. Yup, that is one thousand four hundred dollars. So I thought, hmmm maybe it’s time for another project since I wanted to see the fruits of my labor anyway. The next project? The bathroom.
I saw the Delta Faucet on sale throough a website and my oh my – the faucets are amazing. I need to take my old vanity and replace it with one of those. It started to inspire me again to replace the fixtures in my bathroom and from where? From my blogging money. Yes, I am absolutely certain that it would be totally satisfying once the project is complete.

Morph me – - – I need a makeover!
Summer is almost over and I haven’t even lost the weight that I intended to. Instead of losing, I even gained 10 lbs. Arrrrghh!! Just as we did last year for DIWA, a makeover is badly needed. No, I don’t want lipo! I want to do it painlessly and without any hassles.
So, I was reading Bryanboy’s blog and I’ve seen pictures of him get transformed into the skinniest of bodies I have ever seen. Photoshop? Definitely. But you know what’s better? I saw this software online and it could be really cool if I could take my body and morph it into something else. Morpheus Photo-Morpher could be really fun and I think it’s much more fun than Photoshop. I was playing with it and I cannot believe how user-friendly it was! I was able to create the photo below in 5 minutes without knowing about the software beforehand.
I am working on a better body but I don’t think it’s going to happen this year. I will start school next week and that means less time to go to the gym. Yet, I have the software that I could play around with using my own photos and morph myself into someone I want to be. Hmmm.. how about Jake Gyllenhaal? That’s not a bad idea. I will have more hair and a much fitter body. Just imagine what you can do to your friends’ photos – - and have fun with it!
