New Orleans was a trip to remember. Mardi Gras is in progress now.
One thing that I regret was my visit to New Orleans four years ago. I have been to New Orleans before that but only on business trips and therefore wasn’t really able to see the city. I have heard so much about Mardi Gras and I have always wanted to go but I couldn’t afford to go during that time.
Finally, I had the courage to attend a special event called Southern Decadence right on Bourbon Street. We stayed a few blocks away so we didn’t have to drive if ever we get caught with too much fun. And of course, we did and are glad that we picked a hotel that is walking distance from the main street. It was one of the most memorable experience I had gone through and it probably won’t ever happen again. I and two of my buddies had a wonderful time because the people were so friendly and it’s like a big party! Everyone was greeting everyone and just having a good old time. Oh, and yes – I did earn a few beads in the process.
The regretful part was that I didn’t take part on any New Orleans tours because as I understand it, there’s more to see in New Orleans than Bourbon Street. There was the house of Anne Rice that we could have visited and many other places like the Swamp and Bayou adventure, or the visit to one of the historic cemeteries called the Cities of the Dead. View the longest bridge over water in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. Follow the path of the St. Charles Avenue streetcar, the oldest continuously operating passenger railway system in the world, past the homes of former Kings & Queens of Mardi Gras, stately mansions and the world-famous, exclusive Garden District.
The next time I visit, I would definitely take one of those sightseeing tours to make the most of my stay in New Orleans. Yes, Bourbon Street is nice but don’t miss the rest that New Orleans has to offer. Mardi Gras will be in progress again soon and if you’re trying to look for a place to visit, I would highly recommend New Orleans. It was an event to remember.
