Enhance greeting cards with photos…it’s more personal.

Do you remember the Christmas cards you received with photos of the people who sent them? I think it’s great and much better than a regular greeting card. It personalizes the greeting at a level different than that of a regular greeting card. Besides, you will have something to hold on to and use it for a trip to memory lane sometime in the future.

I think photo cards are great specially if you use a photo that you took during your vacation at the Virgin Islands or a tropical resort somewhere in the Philippines, and send it as a Christmas card. That would really just annoy the heck out of the receiver don’t you think? But I would suggest to do that only to your closest friends who will understand your humor. Haha! I think it’s a great idea.

I received a photo card one time from a friend who sent me the photo of his new pet dressed in the most lavish of pet tutus I have ever seen. Not only did I get a chuckle out of it, I also thought it was a gesture of how much he loves his dog. How cute.

So the next time you think of sending a greeting card, make it a photo card.

“marie claire” discovers a different side of Marian Rivera

marian_rivera3.JPG

By now, everyone knows the story of how Marian Rivera came to be a household name, thanks to GMA-7’s top-rating primetime soap Marimar. How the 22-year-old actress was born in Spain, raised by her grandmother in Cavite, landed leading roles in daytime soaps, and got her biggest break to date. But beyond the surface, who is Marian Rivera, really?

As Marian herself reveals to marie claire magazine, she’s a lola’s girl. “Of course, I love my mom, too,” she says, “But my grandma holds first place in my heart.” She is so close to her grandmother that leaving her behind in Cavite to pursue her showbiz career is one of the major turning points in her life. “Since childhood, it’s always been the two of us. Always,” Marian shares, “Then I made the excruciating decision to leave her because I wanted to work.” She starts to tear up before saying, “It was as if after she took care of me, I just suddenly abandoned her to live my own life. That’s the hardest and most painful part of it all.”

A video of Aga Mulach at Straight Talk last year struck me…

chuvachienes on Uncategorized

We can be concerned. We can speak out. There is no time but now. The government of the Philippines must change. We need to stand against corrupt officials – we need to act. It isn’t going to continue. It isn’t going be just words. WE as PEOPLE should act. Aga, you are right, and I hope more and more influential people speak out. Let’s all make a stand.

Looking to try something new?

I had always considered Maryland to be my home away from home. I loved living there. I lived there from 1986 to 1988, left and went back from 1990 to 1995. I had to come home due to my mom becoming ill and I wanted to be close to her.

The satellite office that my company had there was the best satellite office if you asked me. It’s not because of the location, but because of the people. I got along with all of them and we always hung out. Every Friday during the summer, there will be an afternoon ‘frosty run’ (similar to your mocha shake today), and then after work we would all go to the local bowling alley, play some bowling and drink ourselves to death. The people that I worked with were all young, fresh off college, trying-to-make-it-in-the-real- world type of people and we had a blast!

After nights of drinking it got pretty boring. We decided to try something new. Mind you, I don’t usually do rough sports, or even any sport for that matter but this was something I couldn’t pass up. They thought paintball would be a game to play during one hot summer day. I really wanted to try it and since I was not ‘out’, I had to be able to hang out with ‘THE GUYS’.

To make the long story short, I obliged because girls from our office were willing to play the game too! Paintball is a game where teams play against each other. Each of the team members were given paintball guns and taken into the middle of the woods and let them go at it with each other.

We arrive there, and what do you know? The opposing team were guys from the MILITARY. They were in fatigues and combat boots, complete with camouflage branches with leaves on them. What the??? ;) These are military-trained guys and the only difference was they were going to use paintball guns instead of real ones. Jeezawhiz!!! I wanted to back out right then and there but it was too late. I had to face it.

So off we went into the woods. Each team are separated and there are huge trees and barracks created for us to use for hiding in case they find you. A whistle blows, and off we started. I was so afraid to even look out from the barracks knowing these guys are probably sharp-shooters that could hit me anywhere in my body. The only thing that they provided were vests and goggles. I was thinking, ‘I don’t care, it’s still going to hurt!’

One by one, the guys get shot – including me – right in the forehead. Who was left? This one girl who is our administrator (and a meek one at that!). The best part of it all was watching her defend our station as you see these guys in fatigue everywhere, on the side, crawling on the ground, with the others running towards our station.

She let out one big scream and picked up her paintball gun started shooting at them and everywhere like mad! She gave it her all while the rest of us laid on the floor, laughing our behinds off! That was such a great experience and we all loved it! After that, we went back to drinking. ;) I’m telling you, if you need to try something new – - try paintball. And if you’re looking for gears, visit paintball.com.

Circulate..Ventilate…

Ever been to a concert jampacked with people where the air ventilation isn’t all that good? Sheesh, I can’t even imagine. The stench would probably force me to end my concert early. Ventilation is great anywhere. At home, I make it a point that I air out the house every time good weather hits during the winter. I open up the windows and turn on the Ceiling Fan to keep the house ventilated. It is important to have air circulating to get the bad air out of the home.

Same goes for stadiums and concert halls. Did you know that they make ceiling fans for commercial use as well? Big Ass Fans and the facilities that use them have been featured in the New York Times, Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Discovery Channel Canada and National Geographic Channel. Since its founding in 1999, the Big Ass Fan Company has designed and manufactured 6-foot to 24-foot diameter industrial grade ceiling fans. Their energy efficient design keeps operating costs at just pennies-per-day. Big Ass Fans have found 25,000 applications in warehouses and distribution centers to restaurants and zoos worldwide. Keep ‘em ventilated Big Ass Fans!!!

I love oysters, do you? If you do – read on…

Here’s a little joke for you.. Two oysters walk into a bar, the one oyster said to the other.. oy – ster, where’s your oy-ther? Get it? Never mind.

The first time I had raw Gulf oysters was at a Easter brunch in Miami, Florida. A little bit of shrimp cocktail and a splash of lemon – - wow! It was at a hotel made famous by Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. I forget the name of the hotel but it is supposedly world famous. The brunch was fabulous and it’s an all you can eat brunch with la creme de la creme spread of seafood, meat, salads and deserts!! It was great. But, did you know that you can get sick from oysters? As much as I love oysters, I don’t advocate anyone to eating them because sometimes the person falls into the at-risk category such as having a liver disease, diabetes or a weak immune system. Eating raw oysters, although not dangerous to healthy individuals may pose serious illness to those who are at risk.

If you love oysters, you should be aware of the things that could affect you if you suffer from any of these well-known diseases. For healthy individuals, they could even benefit from its vitamins It could even result in death from Vibrio vulnificus bacteria if you’re unaware of it. I will always love oysters and will continue to eat them and if you do, you should be well informed as to what dangers it may cause should you be in the at-risk group of individuals. You should learn about them before consumption.

There is a website called BeOysterAware.com which provides you with facts about the bacteria and also ways you can avoid the effects by eating oysters that have been post-harvest processed. Certain processes has evolved to prevent the at-risk individuals from getting ill. IQF (Individual Quick-Freezing) or HCP (Heat-Cool Pasteurization) are some of the techniques used to prevent at-risk individuals from getting sick from eating oysters.

There are tons of information available on the website so if you are an oyster-loving person – - read-up first.. then enjoy.

Want to go naked? Natural and naked is good.

I received a product in the mail which I normally throw out. But this one was a shampoo and conditioner sample that boasts to be clinically proven to make my hair stronger. It said that it would start working the first time I use it and that the product works inside and out. I became a bit curious and I didn’t like my current shampoo and conditioner anyway so I thought, hmmm – - might as well use it. If I like it then fine, if not – - fine as well. It will probably be worth the try.

I’m starting to be conscious about the environment of late because of all the news about global warming and such. The product mentions being chemically free and the only key ingredient is called Keravis. A plant protein that’s exclusive to Naked Naturals products. Clinical trials prove that Keravis significantly increases hair strength – up to 7x in our shampoo and 3x in the conditioner.

When I tried it, I was a bit surprised. It felt like my hair was stronger but of course that couldn’t be proven until I probably would have used naked naturals for a while. I did notice the shine and glow of my hair which pleased me. Here are the other information I found. Not only is the product good for my hair but good for the planet as well. I like that.

* No Lauryl or Laureth Sulfates
* No DEA or TEA
* No Animal By-products
* No Synthetic Fragrance
* No Harsh Chemicals
* PH-balanced
* Not Tested on Animals

SOMEONE PLEASE OPEN UP THAT FIRST IMPRESSION ALREADY!

lea_salonga.JPG

I was reading Lea Salonga’s musings on her online journal and I read her comment about Manila International Airport. It is true and I thought I was the only one who begged for NAIA3 to open when I made this post after my trip to Asia. Apparently, people are getting tired of the current airport too, most especially the ones who go through it all the time. Somehow, nobody’s listening. Nobody seems to care. Apparently, Lea does.

Lea Salonga said on her blog:

- When will the NAIA Terminal 3 finally open? It’s been sitting there since before Nicole was even a tiny glimmer in my imagination… it’s corroding as we speak! Our airports are the first places visitors see when they arrive by air… and we don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. SOMEONE PLEASE OPEN UP THAT FIRST IMPRESSION ALREADY!

You go girl!! THE FIRST IMPRESSION. WHEN WILL WE ALL CARE TO GET IT READY? Mrs. President Arroyo – - are you going to do something about it?

Jay-R Siaboc becomes upfront in admitting he had gay experience

jay-r_siaboc1.JPG

Nag-usap kami at nagkaintindihan.

“Nang magkita kami noon sa A.S.A.P. 08, nagkatawanan na lang kami. I think, that’s just how showbiz goes.”

Chuva Chienes has done it again. Is she trying to claim her 15 minutes of fame?! I doubt it.

The Counterfeiters Movie Trailer

chuvachienes on Uncategorized

Writer/director Stefan Ruzowitzky explores the moral corrosion of Nazi complicity with this tightly wound adaptation of Adolph Burger’s fact-based book The Devil’s Workshop. Salomon Sorowitsch (Karl Markovics) may be a talented artist at heart, but his desire for wealth has driven him to use his creativity for more nefarious means. Arrested by the police inspector Herzog (David Striesow) at the onset of World War II, Sorowitsch is sent to the notorious Mauthausen concentration camp. It’s not long before Salomon’s thinly veiled opportunism earns him a relatively comfortable position as the camp’s resident sketch artist, and five years later he is mysteriously swept away to Sachsenhausen. Upon arriving at the camp Sorowitsch discovers that Herzog, now a commandant, is attempting to destabilize the economies of the Allies while simultaneously fund the Nazi war machine by assembling a special team of counterfeit artists to create millions in fraudulent pounds and dollars. As the operation gets underway, Sorowitsch finds the efforts of the team continually undermined by unyieldingly idealistic collotype specialist Adolph Burger (August Diehl). In the months that follow, the team wrestles with their consciences as Axis forces are gradually overwhelmed by Allied might. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide.

If you must write about something, write about something you know.

I have been talking about blogging for a long time to my friends and colleagues. It has been an exciting year for me as blogging has become a part of who I am. I enjoy reading blogs, and I enjoy commnenting on sites that are thought-provoking or sites that are funny. I am not a techie that is why I love learning technical stuff from other blogs that teach me how to make my blog more interesting or downloading plugins that would help my visitors navigate my site.

On the other hand, I also read blogs that are concentrated on healthy living even skin care secrets. One of my friends decided to open a blog focused on skin care and acne solutions because he had a rough teenage life due to acne. When he discovered the secrets on how he can beat his acne problem, he wanted to share it with others who are going through the same fate.

I thought that it was simply ingenious to blog about something that you have a connection with. It helps you keep your blog updated without much concerted effort. It is something that is natural to you so it should be what you should write about. Don’t worry about the high paying keywords and don’t dabble into it unless you know the subject matter. I’ve seen so many blogs out there being created just because the keywords are on top of the high-paying ads in the blogosphere. Keep your content something that is dear to you. You would have better luck finding an audience.

Can a mother be anymore proud if you have a daughter like KC? WOW!! This a brand new tassel under philanthropic belt. I am so proud of her and I wish that celebrities do more of these. They are very high profile and whatever they do, people follow. Does this mean she’s now in line with the likes of Angelina Jolie who is the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees? Way to go KC!!!

Si KC Concepcion ang napiling National Ambassador Against Hunger ng World Food Program (WFP) ng United Nations. She went on a three-month screening process and got approved by three offices—Rome, Vatican, and Thailand. She’s only the third to be chosen from Southeast Asia.

Apoogee Search is Rapidly Growing

I blogged about Apogee Search before.  It is a search engine marketing firm in Austin, Texas and their main niche is to ensure that clients’ websites can be found on Google, Yahoo!, MSN Live and other search engines.

What business model do you use to make sure that your investment has the highest return on your investment (ROI)?   Advertising dollars can somehow be used haphazardly thinking that if you pay for advertising to make sure that your website is found at the number one spot on Google, MSN or Yahoo, you will get the return on your investment.  Search Engine Optimization is an overused word.  Everyone talks about Search Engine Optimization but who can really deliver their promises?   Visibility is important and if you pay a company to do just that, you should expect that your site will be on the top of any searches through the keywords that your business revolves in.

Let’s take a PPC (Paid Search) for example.  Your advertising costs could rack up to thousands of dollars a month.  You have to take it into consideration whether you want to develop that functionality in-house or outsource it.  Which would cost you less could be the first question.  The question should be, which one would deliver the most ROI.    How about taking the strategy of outsourcing it to the “experts” to hit the ground running and then, slowly taking it in-house.  Proper knowledge transfer can occur in a short amount of time if you hire “experts” internally to learn what the outsource “experts” are doing.    I bet it would probably provide you the biggest bang for your advertising dollars.

Since its inception in 2001, Apogee Search has rapidly grown to become one of the 25 largest Search Engine Marketing firms in the world. Founded by early Internet pioneers and McKinsey & Co. alumni, Apogee focuses on a variety of proven online marketing methods that include paid search, natural search, ad exchanges, and online media buying. All of Apogee Search’s solutions are designed to drive qualified, targeted visitors to B2B and B2C websites for more leads, customers, revenues and profits.

Authentic African Art, Handicrafts and Jewelries

One thing so refreshing about African Art is that it constitutes one of the most diverse legacies on earth. The continent is marked with people, societies, and civilizations each separated by i’s unique visual culture. Despite its diversity, the visual culture is unified through artistic themes from this vast continent. If it is blatantly obvious that the artisans of Africa focuses on the human figure. It is their primary subject matter and may be found in most of African art. The trade between Europe and Africa is involved in its history and human body was introduced into existing European pottery.

As an example, Portugal had traded with the Sapi culture near the Ivory Coast in West Africa. Elaborate ivory salt cellars were created that were hybrids of African and European designs. The African artisans also puts emphasis on sculpture as well. Afrik Boutik – African Arts & Gifts embodies that same culture today and the art they offer are the creation of the finest craftsmen available, and are representative of authentic African culture. All of the artisans handcraft their native art, clothing and jewelry, in the traditions of the people and tribes where the art originated. They add new artisans every so often that would showcase new items in order that you are provided with a variety of choices. All of the items are spectacular.

From jewelries to handcrafted bags, sculptures and oil paintings, you will be sure to find the best art offered from an online store. Traditional African clothing in exquisite colors are sold from the site as well both for men and for women. You will browse in delight as I haven’t seen this much collection under one site. You have the option to choose from many different oil paintings, sculptures and jewelries available. They also offer leather bags at the site as well.

Afrik Boutik – African Arts & Gifts offers the highest quality products made by highly-skilled craftsmen. It is their goal to bridge the gap between the lack of resource for West African art. Founded in 2005 by Joseph K. Bilson and Rainford B. Legair, this e-commerce website aims to help the underprivileged of Ghana and other African countries as well. They will donate 5% of its proceeds to the underprivileged, mainly the disabled who can’t afford to pay their own medical fees or tuition.

Hello everyone! It’s time to look back now. A year after opening this blog didn’t seem that long ago. I was in my dining room creating my blog which started out to be a personal blog. I was supposed to rant and rave about what’s going on with my life, the ups and downs, my challenges and successes.

In the process however, I discovered that my blog wasn’t meant to be a personal blog but rather, a blog that provides entertainment to Pinoys all over the globe concentrated on Pinoy celebrities, hunks and sexy stars. Not only do I have visitors from all four corners of the globe, I have made friends with people from all continents as well.

After Valentine’s Day – I feel the need to date.

You may be wondering – it has been seven months since my ex-boyfriend and I broke up. When will Chuva start dating again? That’s the age-old question. I really don’t have the time to devote to anyone right now. I am busy with work, school, and blogging. On top of that, I have a business to run. My plate is quite full really and I can’t say that I will be dating anytime soon.

Not until I came across a free dating site. Every dating site now charges a fee to meet someone or even to look pictures of people you’re interested in. It’s a big business if you know what I mean. With Valentine’s day behind us, there really isn’t much need for me to find a date but if it’s for free – hey why not take a look right? And what’s interesting with this site is, it works like Friendster. You can network with people and possible future dates as well. Now, you can’t find a site that is exclusively dedicated to creating friendships all over the globe. This may interest you if you’re ready.

FlirtVibes is a totally free dating site that anyone can join. The casual nature of FlirtVibes.com attracts people who are new to online dating and may not be ready to use a more traditional subscription service. Many users find that they get to know people much better on this style of site and never bother to move on to a pure dating solution and many continue to visit the site and contribute to the community even after entering a relationship. FlirtVibes.com also continues to attract a more sophisticated and web-aware audience who are drawn in by the powerful social features not commonly found on dating sites.

FlirtVibes.com is what we believe people are looking for in an online dating service, always free and much more than a directory of flat personals ads.

Change of plans….dears….

I was supposed to travel to Manila this year. I have my plans all hashed out and as soon as the semester ends, I was going to leave for Manila for two weeks!! Malen and Pusa are already too excited that I am afraid with this post, I will be ostracized. I was so excited as well until I found out that I couldn’t. We have so many projects right now that even a week of vacation will put me so behind, I will never die.

So, I need to look at other vacation ideas that would not take me away completely from work but enable me to relax and enjoy it. Did you know that I lived in New York for 5 years and still didn’t get to see the Statue of Liberty up-close? the last time I was there was when I was 5 years old. My mom, my sister and I took the ferry and climbed the Statue of Liberty. Five years in New York and didn’t have the chance to re-visit the Statue of Liberty. That is just a shame.

So, I decided that I will take small trips between now and summer. One of the destinations is Nueva York. I will visit the sites I have meant to visit for a long time but never had the chance to. It would be nice to stroll around 5th avenue again, or Times Square. To make it simpler, I could probably take New York city tours and kill all birds with one stone. They would have the destinations, all I have to do is ride along. Trusted Tours & Attractions offers these tours around Manhattan and other areas of New York.

who knows? In the process, I may meet someone that would fulfill my Valentine’s Day dream next year! ;)

Jane Fonda utters the C-word on National TV

jane_fonda.jpg

I was laughing my butt off the floor when I heard that Jane Fonda actually mentioned the word C*nt on the Today Show yesterday morning. The conversation with Eve Ensler was about the 15th Anniversary of the Vagina Monologues. Jane said that she had been asked a few times to partcipate in the Vagina Monologues even though she hasn’t seen any production of the play and stated, “I live in Georgia, OK? I had been asked to do a monologue called the C*nt.”

It was mentioned as is because that was the title of the segment she was asked to do. Meredith Vieira later apologized and said, “It was a slip and obviously she apologizes, and so do we. We would do nothing to offend the audience so please accept our apology.”

I was floored. Who cares? They mention almost anything on TV these days. Kids? What kids? These kids know more about sex than we do. But hey, you invite a 70-year old activist on your morning show – are you going to expect less? Ha! She is an icon and good or bad, she did her time. Who know’s what I’ll say when I’m her age! After all, I’ve kept my mouth shut all my life. Maybe it would be time for me to let go!

KC Concepcion graces the cover of Philippine Tatler Magazine

It was amazing to see one of the hottest celebrities in the Philippines today on the cover of Philippine Tatler Magazine . I am and will always be a big fan of KC Concepcion. Her four-year stint in Paris was a great experience for her and it shows how humbling the experience was for her. She’s generating a lot of celebrity buzz yet she’s ready to handle every stone thrown at her. She is a DoubleMegaStar in the making.

My second semester at Rutgers University

Whew! It’s my second semester at Rutgers and already, I’m feeling the heat. This is not like a community college – - you gotta work! Although I dread my classes, I do like it a lot. The only thing is – time is so limited for me. I am always finding myself rushing to and from work to school to here, to there… Arrrrgghh… When I graduate, I was planning on taking my MBA as well but if it’s going to be as busy as this, how can one manage?!

It makes me wonder if taking up my MBA online could be possible and I believe that it will be. Just imagine completing your online mba from home! That would be awesome. Take away the travel time that I have to do like I do now and concentrate on my studies using the travel time that I am getting back. That would be ideal won’t it?

I am hoping to take an online MBA at Columbia Southern University. CSU offers MBA degrees with concentrations in E-Business, Marketing, Project Management, Finance, Health Care Management and much more. CSU students enjoy benefits such as open enrollment, affordable tuition, and textbooks included at no extra cost. Just the saving on textbooks alone is getting me excited cause I know how much it costs to pay for one now!!
