Can a mother be anymore proud if you have a daughter like KC? WOW!! This a brand new tassel under philanthropic belt. I am so proud of her and I wish that celebrities do more of these. They are very high profile and whatever they do, people follow. Does this mean she’s now in line with the likes of Angelina Jolie who is the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees? Way to go KC!!!

Si KC Concepcion ang napiling National Ambassador Against Hunger ng World Food Program (WFP) ng United Nations. She went on a three-month screening process and got approved by three offices—Rome, Vatican, and Thailand. She’s only the third to be chosen from Southeast Asia.

Pumunta ng Pikit, South Cotabato si KC kahapon ng umaga, February 18, para sa unang trabaho niya bilang national ambassador ng WFP. Dalawa ang purpose ng pagpunta ng grupo sa Cotabato. Una, ang distribution ng take-home rice na ibibigay sa bawat nakalistang pamilya. Makakatanggap lamang ang pamilya ng libreng bigas kung pumapasok sa eskuwela ang kanilang mga anak.

Ang ikalawa, pupunta sina KC sa mga eskuwelahan para sa onsite feeding and distribution of warm formulated meals.

“I am so happy to be connected with the right channels talaga. It’s quite a feat to feed hungry children everyday and help resolve conflict and keep them in school,” pahayag ni KC sa kanyang text message sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

“Hopefully, we can get the government to implement feeding programs properly and efficiently too by setting a big example on how things should be done. The problem is that the feeding program of our government limits to 19 days of feeding out of 80. So it becomes more symbolic. We better do something to engage the youth too apart from raising awareness to those who can donate,” payahag pa ng anak ng Megastar na si Sharon Cuneta.

Ayon pa sa nakalap na information ni KC, 50 percent daw ng mga bata sa Mindanao ay nagututom, base sa data na nakuha mula June 2007. Every five seconds, may isang bata raw na namamatay somewhere around the world dahil sa gutom.

Hot meals are provided by to 16,000 children in 277 schools and day care centers. The WFP has increased enrolment by 40 percent and has sustained attendance by 94 percent in assisted schools.

The program is operational in over 800 schools in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao. Nasa 33% lang daw ng mga bata sa Mindanao ang nakakatapos ng primary education. Forty percent daw ng mga magulang na hindi napapag-aral ang kanilang mga anak ang nagsabi na ang kakulangan sa pagkain o gutom ang isang contributing factor kung bakit ito nangyayari.

Nakibahagi sa feeding program ng WFP si KC nang magpunta ang dalaga sa Pikit, Cotabato kahapon ng umaga. Kasama niyang nag-lunch ang UN team, kasama ang mayor ng lugar. Muslim style ang kanilang tanghalian, with colorful sarongs on the floor.

Kumain daw sila seated on the floor. They were served crab, fish, seafood, and wrapped rice with ulam inside. Kasama raw nilang kumain ang mga bata na kasali sa feeding program. Tinikman din daw niya ang formulated meals na ibinigay sa mga bata. Unang lakad pa lang daw niya pero marami na raw siyang natutunan tungkol sa World Food Program at sa magandang kultura sa Mindanao.
