KC Concepcion’s ex-bf Lino Cayetano proud of her “Maalaala Mo Kaya” performance
Gradually, KC Concepcion is inching her way towards the glaring spotlight of show business. Despite being a household name dating back to her toddler years, the daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and ex-matinee idol Gabby Concepcion, has never been this visible and accessible both to the press and the public.
KC’s TV acting debut in Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) last February 15 marks her entry into the industry that has given so much—both good and bad—to her family.
BYE, BYE PRIVACY. Now that she’s no longer peeking in the background, KC appreciates all the perks, highs, and opportunities attached to being a celebrity. But the downside, she realized, is also daunting.
“To know yourself, para you don’t believe all the press that comes out about you,” she recalled being told by her mom in handling intrigues.
“Kasi ‘pag maniwala ka sa mga bagay, minsan nakakaloka talaga ’cause parang masyadong nagpa-pry ‘yong tao sa private life.”
In an industry notorious for putting too much color beyond the real, KC discovered that even her innate friendly nature could also be a liability when it comes to her chosen profession.
Talking to the press yesterday, February 28, at her launching as the official endorser of the new Sony Cyber-shot camera held at the Mega Trade Hall 1 of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, KC expressed discomfort with the customary showbiz practice of linking one star to another.
“‘Yong mga ano lang,” she paused, “parang ‘yong mga nali-link lang parang hindi ako sanay na may mga nagpi-pick, nagha-handpick ng kung sino na lang, kung sinong gusto nilang pag-usapan. So parang lately, more careful [ako] about who I hang out with and kung sino ‘yong mga nakaka-close ko.”
It’s a two-way affair according to KC, as non-showbiz intimates also become wary for fear of being dragged into the limelight. She further explained, “May mga taong ayaw nilang mawala ‘yong private life [nila] because ‘yong association sa amin. And nakakalungkot para dun sa mga wala namang kinalaman sa showbiz, so hindi sila sanay.”
And speaking of intimates, what did director and her ex-boyfriend Lino Cayetano say about her MMK appearance?
“In fairness, proud naman siya sa MMK episode,” revealed KC. “Because si Direk Lino naman talaga ‘yong kausap ko on things like that, things like this,’ yong MMK and career.”
Lino sent a text message to extend his congratulations for a job well done.
“He texted me to say he was proud,” she repeated. Addressing Lino through the press, KC without any hint of bitterness added: “Thanks Lino, very, very sweet of you.”
