Gulf oysters are the best kind of oysters. I’ve tried them and they are so sumptous. I eat raw oysters and cooked oysters although I prefer the earlier rather than the latter. That’s pretty much how I’ve been introduced to oysters and that’s how I know to eat them.
Although we have another way of eating raw oysters other than just the plain cocktail sauce and lemon. We usually take the oyster right from the shell (yes, raw) and put it in a mixture of vinegar, ginger, garlic and a bit of salt and pepper. We let it sit for a few minutes and whoah – - once you taste it, you will always crave for it.
There is a danger with eating oysters raw. I remember my mom would always tell me not to eat oysters in an empty stomach, let alone eat ‘em raw. Bacteria could attack your immune system and it could kill you if you are not well. It’s okay if you’re strong and healthy but why take chances.
