Before you eat ‘em – be Oyster Aware.
I have loved oysters ever since I tried them. Raw oysters are big in the Philippines as well, without the cocktail sauce. But even then, I always liked it and will probably never lose my appetite for it. I eat it at buffets, crabfeasts, and even during summer gatherings.
Gulf oysters are wholesome and very tasty. My love for oysters remain and whenever we go to Rehoboth Beach during the summer months, I make sure that we include it with our order every time we go for an all-you-can-eat crab lunch. You must be aware however that if you’re not healthy or suffering from any illness, it could be dangerous to your health. I was not aware of the bacteria that an oyster can carry such as: Vibrio vulnificus. This bacteria can actually kill you if you get it into your system or get you seriously ill.
Be Oyster Aware website is a great website to get educated on oysters whether you are eating them raw or cooked. As you will read on the Be Oyster Aware website eating oysters can be a good thing, they do taste great as well as have omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12 and Zinc. You just need to be more careful when enjoying these great pleasure called oysters especially if you have any of the following conditions such as Liver Disease, Iron overload disease, Diabetes, Cancer, Stomach Disorders or any other illness that can weaken your bodies immune system.
