Falling in love online? Don’t worry. =)
I know that during the start of the internet, falling in love online was looked down upon. If you tell anyone that you met someone online, the first reaction you’re going to get was a smirk. “That’s not going to work!” or “Long Distance relationships are hard to maintain, you will never succeed in it!” These days, those comments cannot be much farther from the truth. People have fallen in love, married, have children and some probably do have grandchildren by now. It’s an amazing evolution.
Today, in the blogging world, it isn’t any different. You can meet people anonymously by reading their personal entries about their lives. You can comment on their entries once in a while and then before you know it, a friendship develops. If you take that friendship further, you start talking online. But chatting online is very different from speaking to the person over the phone. You can be more personal, or flirtatious (haha!) for that matter. The problem is, it could become very expensive. This is true specially if you are forming a friendship / relationship overseas.
One thing that I’ve found that helped save my piggy bank is using an online phone card to make my phone calls. It saves me approximately 80% of the cost of regular long distance services. You can control the amount that you use as well. You are not likely to find out at the end of the month that you’ve spent a thousand dollars because you enjoyed the conversation with your “special” friend too much.
So my advice? Go ahead – make friends, form relationships. Why limit yourselves. There are many many ways to make that phone call without paying an arm and a leg. The whole truth is, I have compared my long distance bills from the phone cards that I’ve used when I last “fell in love”, and it is simply a fraction of the cost. There is no comparison. Don’t worry about it because there are online phone cards that you can use to save the day.
