An interesting read about Project Management.
“As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns. That is to say, we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
I was reading a post on a blog about the famous Donald Rumsfeld quote above. It is interesting how the writer had taken the quote and asked whether Donald Rumsfeld was a Project Manager because of this quote. I could identify with the writer simply because I also work as a PM and have taken PMP training in the past. It is where all the aspects of the project rely upon. And I agree that good project management involves looking into the future way before it happens; assessing a situation beyond what is currently at hand. Simply knowing that there are definitely “unknown unknowns” is enough to manage a project efficiently. I don’t think I could have learned much of the “unknown unknowns” without my PMP training and without having hands-on experience on projects. The writer was dead-on with reference to having proper training such as SWOT analysis to determine specific points in the project where one draws a line and decide a Go/No-Go decision according to the negative events called THREATS that may come your way.
It was a good read and I really enjoyed the writer’s perspective.
