What gave new meaning to the acronym FB?

Got your attention huh?!  It’s Facebook silly?!  Take your mind out of the gutter.  ;)

I didn’t realize the madness that swept the Philippines when Friendster came out.  It was like a snowball – avalanche effect.  The number of users of Friendster from the Philippines outnumbered any country in the modern and not-so-modern world.  Why is that?  Because they found a connection to the world.  A place where you can be silly and express yourself.  Friendster was down for a few days last week due to a virus.  An it was amazing how people flocked to the famous rival social networking site, “Facebook”.

I looked at the history of it all and guess what, it is amazing how much this site has grown from a little campus only application to a worldwide phenom.  It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg while a student at Harvard University.  It was initially restricted to Harvard students and later expanded to other Ivy League colleges.  Later on, it expanded to other universities, high schools and now – to anyone over 13 years old.

I became a member when I went back to school at Rutgers University.  It was a way for us to find out available classes and who’s going to be in those classes before we enroll.  It’s really a cool thing to get to know the people in your class.  But today, everyone and their mother are on Facebook.  I recently became active again dahil kay JOSHKO.  He is on there and very active indeed.  And guess what?  I found friends I haven’t spoken to in eons of years!  And the application is so friendly that I can spend all day in it (bar getting discovered at work!) and not get bored.

If you’re not on Facebook yet – it may be time for you to join us there.  Just look for Chuva Chienes.  I’m on there.   Other bloggers are already connected to me as well.  Let’s have fun and join Facebook!  Maybe you’ll get to know who the “real” Chuva Chienes is?  :D
