Philippines tops Earth Hour 2009

MANILA, Philippines–For 60 minutes Saturday night (March 28) , a recorded all-time high of 650 cities switched off its lights for Earth Hour, placing the Philippines as the top participant in the event, an official of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) said.
“More than 15 million Filipinos in 650 major towns and cities from distant islands participated,” according to WWF communications officer Gregg Yan told INQUIRER.net.
Yan said the Philippines also placed first in town and city participation out of the 88 countries among 25 different time zones.

Dingdong Dantes told about ‘real father’s’ death
When international Filipino action star Roland Dantes passed away Monday, one of the first people to be informed about his death was young actor Dingdong Dantes.
It was the initial reaction of Chris Dantes, one of Roland’s nephews and closest relatives, who passed the sad news to friends, colleagues, and kin of the arnis (a native martial art) star.
“I texted Dingdong immediately because we know each other. We’ve met a number of times,” said Chris, a rapper.

Email going around now with pictures of Francis Magalona in his coffin.
I was forwarded an email from someone who is sending out several pictures of Francis Magalona taken during the viewing of his remains. Photos that are not disrespectful and honestly, the shots were nicely taken. The email chain is entitled, “Paalam Kiko” and an excerpt from FrancisM’s entry from his blog accompanies several pictures taken.
I know that for us Filipinos, this quite normal and will not be viewed as morbid or weird. However, I am not going to post the pictures here – but I will post the message from his blog because it is very real and very touching. In fact, I read that post when he posted the entry on his Multiply Blog as I read his blog regularly. He is one of the celebrities’ blog I linked with this blog under BLOGPALS. I will not post or forward the pictures simply as a gesture of respect for Kiko.

Geoff Eigenman is a Filipino actor notable for his performances in television. He was part of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. After his contract has expired, he was chosen by GMA Network to replace JC De Vera[1] in a role for the late-night drama anthology, SRO Cinema Serye (first known as Obra).
He was born Geoffrey Michael A. Eigenmann on March 23, 1985. A third generation of the Mesa-Gil clan of actors. Grandparents are Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil. Son of Filipino actors Michael De Mesa & Gina Alajar. He is of Spanish/American descent. He has two siblings: older brother Ryan Eigenmann (actor), and younger brother AJ Eigenmann (actor). Nephew of Filipino actors Mark Gil and Cherie Gil. Cousin of actor Gabby Eigenmann and Sid Lucero (Tim Eigenmann). He is good friends with co-actors Luis Manzano & John Prats. Formerly paired on-screen with actress Heart Evangelista and Nikki Gil. Cousin of newcomer actress Andy Gil.
Eigenmann graduated from Shekinah Christian Training Center in March 2002, becoming an alumnus of SCTC.
Later, Eigenman was back in his home network GMA Network via Obra.

“Little Ashes” Starring Robert Pattinson – Coming to Theaters in JUNE ‘09
Little Ashes is a 2009 British drama film, set against the backdrop of fascist Spain as three of the era’s most creative young talents meet at university and set off on a course to change their world. Luis Buñuel watches helplessly as the friendship between Salvador Dalí and the poet Federico García Lorca develops into an unusual love affair.
Plot
In 1922, 18-year old Salvador Dalí (Robert Pattinson) arrives at university in Madrid. The Residencia de Estudiantes, or student residences, is a modern environment which encourages Spain’s brightest young minds. Salvador, who is determined to become a great artist, soon catches the attention of the Resi’s social elite – poet Federico García Lorca (Javier Beltran) and aspiring filmmaker Luis Buñuel (Matthew McNulty). Together they form the nucleus of the most modern group in Madrid.
Their private lives become increasingly complex as Federico ignores the advances of devoted friend and writer Magdalena (Marina Gatell), and Salvador himself feels the pull of Lorca’s magnetism. Luis, becoming increasingly isolated by the duo’s closeness, decides to move to Paris to fulfill his own artistic ambitions, leaving Salvador and Federico to spend the summer at the seaside village of Cadaques.
Federico finds himself accepted[1] into the Dali family as he and Salvador grow closer until, one night, their friendship becomes more.[2] Even as they draw closer, their relationship appears doomed. Luis visits them at university and becomes more suspicious and appalled by their apparent closeness.
Dali finds Lorca’s obsession with him more than he is prepared to handle and moves to Paris. Consumed by the high society and decadence, Dali is soon entangled with Gala (Arly Jover) a married woman with a penchant for celebrities. When Lorca visits, he finds his friend is a changed man, about his life, his love and his politics.

Yes. You may have gotten it through email, a link or it may have been shown to you by a friend, a colleague or even your children. It’s the Youtube Video Sensation called Christian the Lion. A cub, purchased by a couple of guys (John Rendall and Ace Bourke) at Harrod’s department store in 1969 because the cub was encaged in a cage that they thought was too small for the cub. The cub was only 35 lbs at the time and in a year, the cub had grown to 185 lbs. They decided to take the cub to Africa and release him to the wild. The video was about the reunion a year later.
I thought the whole world had seen the video, but apparently not. It was featured on Oprah today and many still haven’t seen the video.

good morning! oh i know jennifer aniston is going to love the latest cover of STAR magazine (along with members of ‘team aniston) which is claiming there’s relationship drama going on between angelina jolie and brad pitt over a nanny – supposedly ms. jolie caught mr. pitt getting all chummy with one of their nannies – and she didn’t like it! could there be trouble in paradise? i bet jen would simply love it if brad ran off with some girl and left angelina in the dust – she’d be getting a taste of her own brand of medicine! i doubt there’s much truth to this rumor but of course being with brad – angelina does need to keep her eyes peeled at all times … i bet there’s plenty of women out there who might try to sink their claws somehow into brad and steal him away (perhaps women on ms. aniston’s payroll?) brangelina does appear to be the most perfect couple ever yet when things seem too perfect – that’s when you have to wonder – are things really that perfect behind closed doors? popbytes over & out for now … xoxo

Ayan na mga ditse, nilabas na ang shortlist ng mga haka hakang tatakbo raw as candidate for President of the Philippines in 2010. Hindi ko nakita sa list ang ating ina-asahang Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan or Mar Roxas whom I’ve heard through the grapevine, is supposedly running as well. Sir Kiko did mention that he is mulling over running as an Independent for Vice-President instead. Hmmmm… puwede pa kaya siyang mag change ng mind? I mean, the list is quite crazy.
Before anything else, there’s good news. Approved na raw ng Congress ang budget for automated polls for the 2010 elections. Tapos na ang mga linggo-linggong bilangan, dayaan, at paghihintay ng resulta (habang nagbabayad yung iba sa chorva-chorvang mga voters) etc. etc. Therefore, there is a chance that they could bring back the credibility of a democratic election in the Philippines. Who knows? I sincerely hope na gamitin ang automation to stop fraud talaga. Pero, ang dami na raw kumokontra (as in di naman daw kailangan, baka naman daw ma-hack lang yung system chever chever!) Hmmmf! Anovey?

Jennifer Aniston is promoting her film Marley and Me, which was just released in the UK. She has a new interview in this week’s Hello! Magazine. Although people are inevitably going to bash her for talking yet again about her long-over marriage to Brad Pitt, it’s worth noting that she was specifically asked about him and that she gave an honest, kind of low-key answer to the question. While doing press for this film in America a couple of months ago, Aniston pretty much dropped the vague Hallmark-kind of responses she used to give and decided to be honest and upfront with reporters. I think this strategy worked for her and I find her a lot more likable when she’s open. Most of us here don’t approve of her choice in a partner, but that’s up to her and I don’t see her as the desperate character she’s often portrayed as. Aniston is doing pretty well, but she’s had her bumps in the road and she’ll tell you about them. Here’s more from her Hello! Interview:

I was shocked – - and yet, not-so-shocked with the revelation if it is indeed true. I liked the post a lot – - stating that – and I quote:
Anonymity is afforded to those people who for some reason or another are reluctant to expose themselves in public due to rational and irrational concerns over their safety and privacy. Look, it’s very simple. I truly believe as a blogger, that if you wrote, you have to own it, lock stock and barrel.

A: Oh goodie! Gayle opens the discussion by reading (and sounding out) the entire police report. Oprah’s Friday’s are like hanging out with my Aunts & Uncles around the dinner table … and not in a cool engaging way.
L: HA! Oprah pronounces her name RHY-ANNA!
A: Won’t someone think of the children? The kids are already using a new phrase when they play video games, “I’m gonna Chris Brown you!” Call a PTA meeting quick and let’s burn his CD’s in the town square at 9PM! Sadly, you know her producers are on the other line trying to book Chris & Rihanna right now.
L: We’re listening to Oprah talk about it on Friday via internet and watching Matt Lauer on The Today Show wonder if Rihanna’s image has been tarnished on the TV. Is anyone else sick of hearing about these two and their abusive love?
A: The two are acting like nothing happened, and they’re really good at it. Chris knows he needs Rihanna on his side if he’s ever going to get his credibility back and now that he has her he’s not letting go. The police are trying to get her to testify against him but if that’s easily fixable with a shot gun wedding.
