Hello bored movie watcher! I am with you 130% on that! That was my qualm about the indie films made in the Philippines. If it's not about gay macho dancers or prostitutes - we can't seem to catch up.

I do hope that someone out there is listening. Very good input! I actually enjoyed reading your very refreshing comment. Thank goodness I'm not alone in this. :D

A movie on prostitutes... wow radical... NOT.

I'm tired of so-called indie films being so obsessed with the same thing mainstream films are: Sex and Sexuality. If not that, then it's about criminality. It's the same old cliche. And sadly, it perpetuates the idea that the Philippines is a nation of corrupt policemen, cross dressers, and prostitutes.

I am looking for real indie filmmakers who would make a radical leap into the real lives of Filipinos. India has made several films around the lives of call center agents... Bangkok has now become the newest source of Hollywood inspiration for the horror genre... but where is Philippine cinema, indie or mainstream?

If anyone cares to listen, we need to have films like Kite Runner (which, though it had a rape scene was not too "in your face" yet the effect was still as devastating because of really good storytelling), Joy Luck Club (stories of generational conflict), Outsourced (of India), Angela's Ashes...

We have plenty of stories to tell which does not involve prostitutes, sex, corrupt police, etc. Our filmmakers just need to look for them.

A movie on prostitutes... interesting angle since it shows us what their lives are when they're not at work. Thing is, that stabbing scene looks soooo disturbing!
