Complete Transcript of President Corazon C. Aquino’s Speech before U.S. Congress

380px-black_ribbonsvg

Pres. Aquino’s interview back in 2008 with Jessica Soho revealed that one of the highs during her Presidency was when she spoke before the U.S. Congress, another was when she made the cover of Time Magazine as Woman of the Year.

A commenter requested for a copy of the Full Transcript of Pres. Aquino’s Speech but I could not find one online.   I took the liberty to watch and listen as I transcribed her speech from Youtube videos.

Some of the words may have been misspelled since I couldn’t make  out the words properly.  Please feel free to send in corrections if necessary and I would be happy to correct it.

In honor of Pres. Corazon Aquino, I am presenting the transcript of her magnificent speech before U.S. Congress.  The speech was so eloquently delivered by Pres. Cory Aquino that I wanted to capture every word.  As I was reading through the written words, it reminded me why I rallied behind her, why every Filipino did as well.  We will surely remember her forever.  She was a woman of integrity and strength.  As a tribute to my beloved President, here’s the full transcript.

Farewell Madame… Cory Aquino passes away. 1933-2009

corazon_aquino

I was saddened when I read the news this afternoon while going through archives of anything “Cory Aquino”.  It was fueled by a request from a commenter to obtain a copy of the full transcript of Former President Cory Aquino’s Historic Speech Before U.S. Congress.  I searched and searched but couldn’t find any source over the internet (going as far as sending a request through Cory Aquino’s Website managed by Benigno Aquino, Jr. Foundation)  for the transcript when I ended up at Time Magazine’s online version with their headline  “People Power’s Philippine Saint: Corazon Aquino, 1933-2009. I realized that MY PRESIDENT had died.

Today marks a sad day.   But today, we received one gift as well.    Pinoy Bloggers all over the blogosphere have been posting yellow ribbons on their blogs as a sign of support for our former President.  The support has been overwhelming and we all prayed.  We prayed for either her recovery (which was highly unlikely) or prayed for God to comfort her in her time of suffering.  We prayed to not let her suffer any more should there be no chance of going into remission.   The gift we received today is this:  AN ANSWERED PRAYER.

Dear Tita Cory (as most Filipinos fondly call her),

You have been a shining beacon for all of us.   Through humility, you served us with grace and dignity.    Let your symbol be a marker for ALL of us to wake up to protect and preserve the democracy you had fought for.  May you be our light for the upcoming elections in 2010.  We should all look to you and the legacy that you and your husband Ninoy Aquino left us.  The legacy of FREEDOM.

We offer our deepest condolences to the children you left behind.  We mourn with them.  Farewell President Corazon Aquino.  Farewell Madame.

Godspeed!

Cash For Clunkers Suspended Already? Complete list of qualifying cars here.

clunker

I guess the government wasn’t expecting that there will be this much interest in the “Cash for Clunkers Program”. The $1 billion dollar allocated for this program was supposed to expire on November 1, 2009 or until the funds ran out.

Well, the dealerships have applied for the program and some of them have initiated 250 “Cash for Clunkers” deals according to ABC News which is 20 times greater than what was expected.

The White House assured that the consumers and dealers who had valid transactions will be honored:

“We are working tonight to assess the situation facing what is obviously an incredibly popular program,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said of what officially is called the Car Allowance Rebate System. “Auto dealers and consumers should have confidence that all valid cars transactions that have taken place to date will be honored.”

It has not been suspended so far and the news is that you may be able to find if your car qualifies.  Sources said that the program may end this weekend as the money allocated for the program runs out.  Check the full list of qualifying cars for Cash for Clunkers Program here.

“Beer Summit” – All is well that ends well.

Well, it sure looked like the men (Pres. Barack Obama, Vice Pres. Joe Biden, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Sgt. James Crowley) had a good time having beer at the White House’s Rose Garden. It was a great move for Pres. Barack Obama.

CNN reports that both men (Gates and Crowley) brought their families along with them for a tour of the White House. The men met the President at the Oval Office before they headed down to the Rose Garden for what is now being dubbed as the “Beer Summit”.

Further, it was reported that “mugs” of beer were being delivered at the round table. There were no intentions of asking what happened during that unfortunate event on July 16th when Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was arrested for disorderly conduct.

I do hope that this gesture would open up conversations around the country and be a witness that we can all get along.  We all just need to sit down, relax and have a beer.

Here’s a quote from CNN.com:

“Even before we sat down for the beer, I learned that the two gentlemen spent some time together listening to one another, which is a testament to them,” the president’s statement said. “I have always believed that what brings us together is stronger than what pulls us apart. I am confident that has happened here tonight, and I am hopeful that all of us are able to draw this positive lesson from this episode.”

What did they drink?

The president was drinking Bud Light, Biden was drinking Buckler, Gates was drinking Samuel Adams Light and Crowley was drinking Blue Moon.

Sgt. Crowley Speaks about the meeting:

Do you love it or do you hate it?

Vilma Santos says she loves Dionisia Pacquiao’s unpretentious personality

BOXING

A lot of people were amazed by the special treatment that Mommy Dionisia received during her recent visit on ABS-CBN compound. Not only did she meet her favorite stars Willie Revillame and Ruffa Gutierrez, but she also rubbed elbows with no less than the network’s bigwigs including Chairman and CEO Gabby Lopez, ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio, and Channel Head Cory Vidanes among others.

But they were not only the ones who were instantly charmed by Mommy Dionisia’s lovable personality. Even Gov. Vilma Santos expressed her desire to meet the mom of Manny Pacquiao. “I love her! I haven’t met her pero in fact parang naging inspirasyon ko siya dito sa In My Life. Yun bang walang pakialam kung anong sasabihin ng iba. Gagawin niya kung anong gusto niyang gawin. Yung kahit anong gusto nyang sabihin sa pamilya niya…I love her! Gusto ko siya,” she revealed.

Aside from the challenge of portraying a mother role similar to Mommy Dionisia’s character in real life, Vilma further shared that her comeback film demanded only her best as an actress. “Iba si Inang (Direk Olive Lamasan), perfectionist siya. Kung hindi ako nagkakamali parang wala kaming take one, parang pinakmababa namin take two. Natsa-challenge ako kasi in one scene meron siguro kaming dalawa hanggang tatlong version. May isang mababa, mataas ang boses…lahat yun take. Iba-ibang approach ang ginagawa namin.”

Acting truly is a nonstop learning. But despite the struggles that accompany it, Vilma thanks her multitude of fans for inspiring her to be better at her craft. Such is the case whenever she hears accolades from colleagues like Sharon Cuneta and Ai-ai delas Alas who claim to be certified Vilmanians. “In fairness kay Shawie bata pa yun talagang nakaabang yun sa gate sa Dasma, binibigyan ako ng bulaklak, bata pa siya nun. Ang sarap sa isang artista kapag nadidinig mo ‘yan lalo na kapag galing sa co-worker mo sa showbiz. Yun na ang pinaka-adrenaline ko kaya hanggang ngayon nandito pa rin ako. So I’m honored kina Ai-ai,” she stated.

When asked if she would consider going back to acting once she’s finished being a public servant, Vilma revealed that she might work behind the scenes instead. “Hindi ko naman alam na papasok ako sa pulitika. Ang dream ko talaga is to produce and direct a movie.

Charo Santos-Concio celebrates 18 years of ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’

I saw the preview of the 18th Anniversary for Maalaala Mo Kaya and I couldn’t wait. I have several DVD’s of the past episodes and I could watch them over and over again.

At the press conference for the 18th anniversary special of Maalaala Mo Kaya, Charo Santos-Concio shared how she became a part of the show’s journey. It was actually her first break as a producer/host which eventually resulted to years of unparalleled success especially when it comes to teaching valuable lessons to audiences. “Nung bago pa ako sa telebisyon, siyempre ang tingin sa akin pelikula lang daw ang alam ko. So nung tinanong ako, ‘Kung papalitan ang programang ito ano ang ipapalit mo?’ Sabi ko give me two weeks, I’ll get back to you.”

Male? Enhance your butt with this new product.

pants6_1451713c

Well well well!  Do you think women are the only ones who can use enhancement clothing?  Think again.

There is a product that is being launched at department stores in the UK that is totally marketed for men and men only.  The brand?  Equman.  They design and market “Body Boost” products such as underwear and even “control vests” that enhance a man’s physique by trimming the stomach ( Hmmmm… sino naman kaya ang mata-tanso nito),  and “support the alignment of muscles”.

According to Evri.com:

The collection, by Equmen, promises to deliver a pert posterior and do for men’s bums what brands such as Spanx have done for female thighs.

The range of ‘power pants’ comprises briefs, at £35, and leg-hugging trunks (colloquially referred to as ‘meggings’ – the macho form of leggings), £37, which feature Equmen’s revolutionary ‘Helix-Mapping compression technology’, to improve lightweight posture and provide support ‘down under’, in addition to lifting and smoothing “in all the right places”, to quote the press release.

So what do you think?  If you are a guy, would you buy this product?  It wouldn’t hurt to enhance your buttocks if you don’t have any.  :)   Who’s to say only women can enhance their figures through the use of lift-up bras and other figure-enhancing products.

Ano, bili na!  Get ready for fall na tayo.. hahaha!

richard_benchloyaltycard

Ayoko sanang ilagay itong istorya na ito sa blog ko dahil it is really unfortunate.  I didn’t want add fuel to the fire about this controversy.  So, when I was reading PEP, I didn’t really pick up this story although I know that many of you wanted to find out what happened during the accident.

There are two sides to the story and this is the first time that I read the whole side of Lorayne Pardo.  And the full interview actually goes from beginning to end – dahilan kung bakit siya nagsampa ng kaso laban kay Richard Gutierrez.  From the story below, it looks like si Annabelle Rama ang nag-pre-prevent kay Richard to act in a way that he should.  Annabelle is controlling her children and they have no say whatsoever.

So I am posting this one para mabasa natin ang the truth behind the lawsuit.  Sino ba talaga ang my kakulangan?

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (July 24-27): The battle for weekday primetime supremacy intensifies

The see-saw battle for the weekday primetime race between ABS-CBN and GMA-7 intensifies.

It seems that no TV network will back down from the fight for primetime supremacy, based on the latest overnight ratings of AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households. In fact, no show occupied the same slot in the Top 5 twice last July 24 and July 27.

The No. 1 primetime program last July 24 was ABS-CBN’s Tayong Dalawa, with fellow Kapamilya shows May Bukas Pa and Only You occupying the second and third positions, respectively.

GMA-7′s 24 Oras and Zorro, meanwhile, took the No. 4 and No. 5 slots.

However, the Kapuso network quickly recovered last night, July 27, and took over the top two slots—24 Oras at No. 1 and Zorro at No. 2.

The top three programs last Friday slipped to the following positions: May Bukas Pa (No. 3), Tayong Dalawa (No. 4), and Only You (No. 5).

This is also the case for the remaining slots in the Top 10, where no show occupied the same position twice.

Rosalinda came in sixth last July 24 and seventh last July 27; Adik Sa ‘Yo finished at No. 7 last July 24 and at No. 9 last July 27; TV Patrol World was in 8th place last July 24 and in 6th place last July 27; The Wedding placed ninth last July 24; All My Life tied with Cruel Love at No. 10 last July 24 and took the No. 8 slot last July 27; and Boys Over Flowers finished 10th last July 27.

In short, no particular show rules the primetime race or has a comfortable lead. It may be displaced in its position at any given time.

In contrast, it is safe to say that the weekday daytime race belongs to GMA-7.

The country’s longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga! remains the No. 1 daytime program, followed consistently by Kapuso soap Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat Sa Akin at No. 2.

The rest of the Top 5 is being fought by GMA-7 soaps Ngayon at Kailanman and Daisy Siete, and ABS-CBN’s noontime show Wowowee.

Due to the coverage of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s final (ninth) State of the Nation Address (SONA) yesterday, July 27, the battle for the remaining Top 10 slots was somehow affected.

Last July 24, the sixth to tenth place were occupied by the following programs in this order: Kambal Sa Uma, Hole In The Wall, Hunter X Hunter, Chil Princesses, and Pilipinas, Game KNB?.

The SONA coverage of both GMA-7 and ABS-CBN entered the Top 10 last July 27. GMA-7′s State of the Nation Address was at No. 6 while ABS-CBN’s Pangulong Arroyo: Ang Huling SONA came at No. 8.

The remaining slots were occupied by Kambal Sa Uma (No. 7), Precious Hearts Romances and Love Or Bread (tied at No. 9), and Pilipinas, Game KNB? (No. 10).

GMA-7′s magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho retained its position as the No. 1 primetime show every Saturday, while TV5′s talent show Talentadong Pinoy jumped to No. 2.

Completing the Top 5 were GMA-7′s Imbestigador and Bitoy’s Funniest Videos, and ABS-CBN’s XXX.

Maalala Mo Kaya came in sixth place, Are You The Next Big Star? was in seventh, and The Singing Bee finished at No. 8.

The last two slots in the Top were occupied by TV5′s Midnight DJ and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

Daytime race was ruled by GMA-7′s Eat Bulaga!, while its rival program on ABS-CBN, Wowowee, came in second. They were followed by Cinema FPJ, Joey’s Quirky World, and Wish Ko Lang!.

The rest of the Top 10 belonged to the following shows: Startalk, Spongebob Squarepants, Pilipinas, Game KNB?, Maynila, and Entertainment Live!.

GMA-7′s Mel & Joey regained the top position in the primetime race last Sunday, July 26. Last week’s No. 1, Rated K from ABS-CBN, slipped to third place behind GMA-7′s All Star K.

Occupying the fourth and fifth places are GMA-7′s Kap’s Amazing Stories and ABS-CBN’s Sharon.

The remaining slots were taken by George and Cecil, Power of 10, The Singing Bee, TV Patrol, and Sunday’s Best: The Michael Jackson Story. All shows, except for Power of 10, are from the Kapamilya network.

The Kapuso network’s musical-variety show SOP grabbed back the lead in the daytime race; followed by fellow GMA-7 shows Joey’s Quirky World and Showbiz Central.

The fourth to seventh slots were occupied by the following ABS-CBN programs: ASAP ’09, The Buzz, Matanglawin, and Your Song.

The last two slots were taken by GMA-7′s Kay Susan Tayo and Black Jack.

via PEP.ph: The Number One Site for Philippine Showbiz | News | AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (July 24-27): The battle for weekday primetime supremacy intensifies.

TNS National TV Ratings (July 24-27): May Bukas Pa still leads weekday primetime race

<

May Bukas Pa once again led all weekday primetime programs last July 24 and July 27 by virtue of its 39 percent and 40.6 percent ratings.

Only You, a romantic-comedy series starring Angel Locsin, Diether Ocampo, and Sam Milby, was also consistent in its second-place finish. The heavy drama Tayong Dalawa and the primetime newscast TV Patrol World alternately occupied the third and fourth spots. All these shows are from the Kapamilya network.

The Koreanovela Boys Over Flowers, another ABS-CBN show, took the No. 5 slot.

GMA-7′s primetime campaign was led by the action-fantaserye Zorro, starring Richard Gutierrez. It consistently held the No. 6 position last July 24 and July 27.

The rest of the Top 10 is being fought out by GMA-7′s Rosalinda, Adik Sa ‘Yo, and 24 Oras, and ABS-CBN’s The Wedding.

Although ABS-CBN programs also occupy the top three slots on the weekday daytime race, GMA-7 shows are doing a very good fight.

ABS-CBN’s Wowowee and Kambal Sa Uma consistently held the first and second positions, but GMA-7′s Eat Bulaga! tied with Precious Hearts Romances Presents Bud Brothers for third place last July 24.

The Kapuso network’s Dramarama Sa Hapon trio of Daisy Siete, Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat Sa Akin, and Ngayon at Kailanman occupied the next three slots.

The rest of the Top 10, however, came from the Kapamilya network: Maria de Jesus, Pilipinas, Game KNB?, and Love Or Bread.

The daytime race yesterday, July 27, was momentarily “disrupted” by Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s final State of the Nation Address (SONA). The coverage of of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 both entered the winners’ circle.

ABS-CBN’s coverage titled Pangulong Arroyo: Ang Huling Sona came in fourth place, behind the top three leaders: Wowowee, Kambal Sa Uma, and Love Or Bread—also from the Kapamilya network.

GMA-7′s coverage, simply titled State of The Nation Adress, finished in 9th place, behind Precious Hearts Romances, Eat Bulaga!, Ngayon at Kailanman, and Pilipinas, Game KNB?. Completing the Top 10 was Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat Sa Akin.

As for the weekend viewing, ABS-CBN programs are still leading.

The drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya topped the primetime race last Saturday, July 25; followed by fellow ABS-CBN shows The Singing Bee, and Nasaan Ka Maruja?.

GMA-7′s Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho tied with ABS-CBN’s XXX for fourth place, while Imbestigador took the fifth place.

The rest of the Top 10 was occupied by TV5′s Talentadong Pinoy (No. 6); GMA-7′s Bitoy’s Funniest Videos (No. 7), Are You The Next Big Star? (No. 8), and Pinoy Records (No. 10); and ABS-CBN’s Banana Split (No. 9).

The daytime race, on the other hand is still being ruled by the ABS-CBN noontime show Wowowee, followed by Cinema FPJ (ABS-CBN), Eat Bulaga! (GMA-7), Entertainment Live (ABS-CBN), and Joey’s Quirky World (GMA-7) to complete the Top 5.

Pilipinas, Game KNB? and Wish Ko Lang tied for sixth place, while GMA-7′s early morning programs Black Jack, Maynila, Batang Bibbo, and Chess Master occupied the remaining slots.

Korina Sanchez’s magazine show on ABS-CBN, Rated K, once again topped the primetime race last Sunday, July 26. Occupying the rest of the Top 5 are these Kapamilya shows: The Singing Bee, Sharon, Goin’ Bulilit, and George and Cecil.

The remaining Top 10 slots belonged to GMA-7′s Kap’s Amazing Stories (No. 6), Power of 10 (No. 7), Mel & Joey (No. 9), and All Star K (No. 10), and ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol (No. 8).

The daytime race was ruled again by ABS-CBN musical-variety program ASAP ’09; followed by fellow Kapamilya shows Your Song, The Buzz, Matanglawin, and GMA-7′s SOP to complete the Top 5.

The rest of the top 10 were: Showbiz Central (No. 6), Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (No. 7), Dear Friend and Hana Kimi Crazy In Love (No. 8, tie), Wolverine and the X-Men (No. 9), and Team Galaxy (No. 10).
