After giving KC Concepcion a five-year supply of expensive perfume, Piolo Pascual still has lots of gifts in mind for his Lovers in Paris leading lady. At the press conference of his film Manila, Piolo said that he would love to produce an independent movie starring KC, an idea which the actress-model is open to. “Gusto niya. Naikwento niya sa mga pag-uusap namin sa set ng Lovers in Paris. She’s open. Pero siguro hindi na love story. Nagagawa na namin ‘yan sa TV and commercial films eh. Maybe something different, something similar to Manila. ‘Yung hindi usual na nakikita ng tao.”

However, Piolo remained mum on the real status of his relationship with KC. Although the actor had revealed his intentions of courting the daughter of Sharon Cuneta, Piolo does not want people speculating that it is just a publicity stunt for their upcoming teleserye. “It will be better if I answer those questions after the show is done. It’s very cliché na kasi to say na, ‘We are just friends’ or ‘Yes we are dating.’ People will always have different opinion so I’d rather not dwell on the issue. Let the people think whatever they want to base sa kung ano na lang ‘yung nakikita nila sa amin. It’s not that we want to keep the details to ourselves, but we both have chosen to just focus more on out work sa teleserye. After that let’s all see what will happen. Let’s just say ngayon she’s special to me…matagal na, ha ha ha!”

Before Lovers in Paris debuts on the small screen, Piolo will be busy promoting the theatrical release of Manila, the film he co-produced which had its world premiere at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Piolo also starred in this twin-bill directed by renowned indie directors Raya Martin and Adolfo Alix Jr. At the press conference, Piolo talked about the reason he co-produced and starred in such an offbeat movie. “As an artist it’s your responsibility to give your audience something new, something they haven’t seen from you in the past. It’s a must to constantly reinvent yourself and continuously improve your craft. Experiences like this help me grow as an artist. Manila was not something I was looking for at the time I was very busy with Lobo and Love Me Again. Direk Raya and Adolf came to me nang hindi ko pinaplanong mag-venture into producing but they offered me an opportunity to do something different from what I got used to.”

Piolo is also the producer of the upcoming comedy film Kimmydora: Kambal sa Kiyeme starring Eugene Domingo and Dingdong Dantes. Many are now curious about Piolo’s finances which enable him to fund an expensive film production. The actor didn’t deny that co-producing Manila was a painstaking task. “For the long time that I have been working very hard, Manila came at a time when hindi ganun kalaki ‘yung savings ko. Madami rin kasi akong binabayaran na mga investments. Sina Direk Raya and Adolf hirap din humanap ng funds but thankfully nagkaroon kami ng mga co-producers dito sa film. Hindi lang naman ako talaga ang naglabas ng pera. Ang kamahalan kasi sa film is hindi siya digital. It was shot in 16mm and then was transferred to 35mm.”

Piolo asked the public go to the theaters and support Manila. “Sa totoo lang, ngayon parang wala nang laman ‘yung savings account ko, ha ha ha! Pero kumakayod pa rin naman ako. In general medyo malaki po ang nagastos namin kaya sana panoorin niyo ‘yung pelikula, ha ha ha!” he said in a joking manner.

Manila also premiered in the Moscow International Film Festival and has been chosen to open the upcoming Cinemalaya Film Festival. Manila is officially released by Star Cinema and will be shown beginning July 22 in selected theaters in SM North Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Manila, SM Fairview, Robinson’s Ermita, Robinson’s Galleria, Gateway, Trinoma, Glorietta 4, Sta. Lucia, SM Davao, SM Cebu, SM Pampanga, and SM Taytay
