Vilma Santos said that she is not worried if some people might question her son Luis Manzano’s sexuality because of his gay role in the movie In My Life. “I know my son and aware naman ako na we’ll [just] be doing a movie. Personally as an artist, ang nasa isip ko it’s a good challenge for my son, it’s a good opportunity. Pero ‘yung personal kong maisip na tutuksuhin siya, I don’t think so. I know my son. So hindi naging isyu sa akin ‘yon,” she explained.
She pointed out that audiences are smarter nowadays and can distinguish the difference between a role and what is real. “Kasi y’ung klase ng pag-iisip nila ngayon, it has something to do with the technology na rin. Masyado nang mabilis ang takbo ng buhay. Ang gay ngayon hindi na isyu, it’s part of our lives.
The actress/politician also clarified that the theme of In My Life does not center on homosexuality. ‘Yun ang totoong storya ng In My Life,” Ate Vi explained.
Vilma clarified that she did not have anything to do with her son’s inclusion in the movie because she wanted Luis to choose for himself. So all of the negotiations, lahat ng iyon it’s between Star Cinema and my son Luis.”
She admitted that she got excited upon learning that Luis accepted the offer because she felt that it is a one-of-a-kind project. Pero once na-feel mo na you are excited, that’s very challenging sa isa pong artista.
For his part, Luis admitted that he never expected that he would do a movie with his mother, much less with the plot as it is. “When I started po naman [sa showbiz] I was hosting. Ang naging linya ko more on romantic-comedy and never ko talagang naisip na makakatrabaho si mommy. Kung makakatrabaho ko man siya, siguro eh for a gag-show or to host something,” he confided.
