Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them.
Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare — they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.
The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe, contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable — he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

TNS National TV Ratings (Aug. 7-10): Darna almost steals No. 1 slot from May Bukas Pa
It was a very close fight for the primetime leadership last Monday, August 10.
GMA-7′s new telefantasya Darna, starring Marian Rivera, posted a 37.5 percent rating on its pilot episode, a mere .1 percent lower than topnotcher May Bukas Pa, which generated 37.6 percent.
Darna‘s pilot episode which ran for over an hour went up against ABS-CBN’S May Bukas Pa and Only You. The latter program starring Angel Locsin got 32 percent to take the No. 5 spot, behind fellow Kapamilya shows TV Patrol World (35.9 percent) and Tayong Dalawa (34.9 percent).
Darna‘s second-place finish was able to break ABS-CBN’s sweep of the Top 5 slots in the primetime race.
Occupying the rest of the Top 10 are: Boys Over Flowers (25.9 percent), 24 Oras (23.7 percent), Rosalinda (23.6 percent), The Wedding (20.4 percent), and Adik Sa ‘Yo (19.3 percent).
AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings Aug. 7-10: Darna flies high on its pilot episode
True to its form, Darna flew very high on its pilot episode last night, August 10.
The GMA-7 fantaserye, which stars Marian Rivera, generated a whopping 44.1 percent to lead all programs. It has a significant margin of 11.8 percent over second-placer Tayong Dalawa, which posted a rating of 32.3 percent.
This is based on the latest overnight ratings of AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.
DARNA VS. DARNA. For those keeping tabs on the numbers game, Darna‘s 44.1 percent pilot rating is Marian’s second highest primetime-series opening, after Dyesebel‘s 44.9 percent. Her other two soaps in GMA-7, Marimar and Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang got 36.6 percent and 32.9 percent, respectively, on their pilot episodes.
For sure, there are people interested to find out how the pilot episode of Marian’s Darna fared against the premiere episode of Angel Locsin’s Darna back in 2005. For the record, Angel’s Darna still rated better with 47.1 percent—or a three-percent margin—compared to Marian’s Darna.
During Angel’s time, GMA-7 was already lording the ratings game in Mega Manila. But it cannot be denied that Angel’s Darna made history when it reached 52.1 percent on its fourth episode, where Angel appeared in a Darna costume for the first time.
That figure was the highest rating achieved by any GMA-7 show at that time. It was only broken in 2008 when the final episode of Marimar, topbilled by Marian and Dingdong Dantes, achieved 52.6 percent.
It should also be considered that Marian’s Darna came at this time where ABS-CBN is giving a very strong competition in the ratings game. Also, Darna is pitted against May Bukas Pa, considered the No. 1 program of the Kapamilya network, which also topped the primetime race for a number of times.
Last night, May Bukas Pa slipped to sixth place with 24.6 percent. Aside from May Bukas Pa, Darna‘s pilot episode, which ran for over an hour, was also pitted against Only You, which came in seventh place with 24.5 percent.
Also, after quite a long time, a GMA-7 primetime series was able to reach the 40-plus mark again.
Darna and Tayong Dalawa were followed by GMA-7′s 24 Oras (31.9 percent) and Rosalinda (28 percent), and ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol World (27 percent) to complete the Top 5.

Kris Aquino speaks up about the Wowowee incident on SNN
Kris Aquino stated their family stance on the matter and that all is forgiven and apologies were accepted. In the end, she stated as well that they are not any of the agency that could decide on his future.
(The online petition called on several agencies, including ABS-CBN to take the matter seriously which has garnered over 35K signatures online)
“First of all, Friday [August 7] ko lang nalaman lahat…” simula ni Kris. “Hindi natin alam kung ano ang mga nagaganap, kasi nandun ka sa situwasyon na ‘yon [pagyao ni President Aquino]. Friday, it so happened na mag-aayos kami ng mga gamit ng Mom sa Times [tahanan ng mga Aquino]. So si Ate Ballsy [panganay sa magkakapatid] at Pinky [pangalawa sa pinakamatanda] went to the house.
“So I said… Thursday night [August 6] kasi nakausap ko si Willie. Pero vague, I mean, hindi klaro. So, Friday namin pinanood sabay-sabay sa YouTube [yung statement ni Willie sa Wowowee]… We didn’t really get to talk about it much kasi nagpunta na kami ng Times at nag-ayos na kami ng mga things ni Mom.
“But on our way—so this is Friday—Willie asked, ‘Puwede ko bang makausap yung mga kapatid mo?’ So, kinausap niya si Pinky. Si Pinky yung una niyang nakausap. And then, sinabi ni Willie sa kanya na nagsu-sorry siya talaga. What Pinky said was, ‘Alam mo, napanood namin at nakikita naman namin na hindi yung intensiyon ang masama. And then Mom said, ‘Wait, I want to know kung kumusta si Willie.’ And then, Ate told Willie, ‘Alam mo, Mom really loved you. She really appreciated the fact na ang bait mo sa mga anak ni Kris.’ And sinabi ni Ate sa kanya, ‘Willie, as far is our family is concerned, nag-sorry ka na, tinatanggap namin ang apology mo.’
“We are not MTRCB. We are not ABS-CBN. We are not KBP. But we are the Aquino family. And for our family, we take Willie’s apology for what it is—an apology. And we accept the apology.
“Wala po sa kamay namin ang mangyayari in the future. Pero I can speak on behalf of myself, my sisters, and my brother, we accept his apology.”
Kasalukuyang naka-indefinite leave si Willie sa Wowowee.
Willie Revillame reported to be deeply affected by viewer reactions.
The online petition filed by Roel C. Saguisag received global support from the TFC (ABS-CBN)-watching viewers. With over 35 thousand signatures received since August 5 when President Aquino was laid to her final resting place at Manila Memorial Park, the petition has surely received the support of many. Proper television etiquette is being demanded of Willie Revillame whose short temper was displayed as he asked the staff of Wowowee to remove President Cory Aquino’s Funeral inset from the his show. The petition is showing more and more that the issue is no longer because he disrespected Tita Cory (for which he has already apologized and to which the Aquino Family has accepted), but for the fact that his attitude on the show has been seen repeatedly by thousands who view the show worldwide.
According to an article written at MB.com:
“He feels isolated,” said friend and Wowowee director Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan who has taken the cudgels for his beleaguered colleague.
Manahan revealed that Revillame had relieved himself of his duties from the show “for the time being.”
“He has been asked to go on leave [starting] Monday [Aug. 10] but he did not wait. I don’t know when he will be back. He is in limbo right now,” Manahan disclosed.
MTCRB, NPC and AFIMA have also chimed in with their reactions to the influx of discontent from Pinoy viewers worldwide:
“It is wrong. What he [Willie] did was objectionable. It is against the broadcast code of ethics of the KBP (Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas) and then sa part ng MTRCB, Sec. 3 of PD 1986 that of being objectionable and contrary to good customs and tradition,” Laguardia said.
The National Press Club (NPC) and the Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamahayag (AFIMA) also expressed their dismay over Revillame’s remark.
“Siguro dapat mabigyan siya ng leksyon ngayon. Iba na to eh. Ibang case na to eh (He should be taught a lesson this time. This is a different case),” said AFIMA president Jerry Yap.
“Sobra na ito. Kung hindi niya titigilan yung ganong attitude niya, I don’t think dapat pa siyang panoorin ng tao (If he will not change his attitude I don’t think people should continue watching him),” said NPC president Benny Antiporda.
The most intriguing part, even Joey de Leon whom Willie had a very controversial exchange of words as televised during their respective shows in the past also chimed in:
“Eh pa’ano kung siya pinaparada? Huling pamamaalam na ‘yun…dapat hindi paalisin…kabastusan ‘yun…kababuyan ‘yun.”
De Leon’s “Eat Bulaga” co-host Vic Sotto rejoined, “Ang baboy kahit damitan mo ng ginto ay baboy pa rin,” during a portion on the show on Aug. 8.
Mr. Johnny Manahan has spoken outwardly in defense of his friend Willie but received the same attacks as well.

Meanwhile, as the article had stated – ABS-CBN executives are rallying behind willie Revillame. I guess the Filipino people will just have to wait what MTCRB, NPC, and AFIMA will do. According to the article:
“It was an internal communication problem. Willie…. loves Tita Cory and wanted to honor her that day. [His outburst] was taken out of context,” said Cory Vidanes, the network’s television head.
Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN’s corporate communications, said they respect the “comments and diverse reactions” but that they have heard Revillame’s side and they believe “Willie was able to explain appropriately.” – Source
Adding insult to injury, Joey De Leon created a poem in his column that was published on the Philippine Star:

The tables are turning. It’s no longer just Willie Revillame, ABS-CBN as well.
I have been simply following this story and I am amazed that even with Willie Revillame taking a leave, people continue to sign the Petition Online submitted by Roel C. Saguisag reaching up to over 30 thousand signatures worldwide. The heat is not over yet.
Filipinos have heard about the response of Kris Aquino when she was quoted as saying that “Willie apologized, end of story.” They have also read that she said “I will take care of Willie.” Even with the assurance that the Aquino Family has accepted Willie Revillame’s apologies, why does the petition continue to garner signatures?
I believe it’s no longer a rift between the Aquino Family and Willie Revillame. It is now a battle between TFC subscribers worldwide and Willie Revillame, many of whom claim to be faithful subscribers of TFC and an ABS-CBN fan (Kapamilya). Apparently, they want Willie to learn his lesson and being that this event is the last straw that broke the camel’s back, they want to see results.
Although it has been explained by Willie and Mr. M that they did opt to pre-empt the show in order to give way to the funeral, upper management at ABS-CBN still wanted them to go on the air.
The people have now turned to ABS-CBN (not disregarding Willie’s actions) and have asked for a reprimand otherwise, they have raised a threat of boycotting ABS-CBN and its endorsed products.

As you can see from the mixture of the comments, there are those who focus on Willie and Willie alone, others have shifted to the director or traffic manager of Wowowee. In either case, they want to see something done.
I know that this is a very difficult time for Willie. Anyone who is a public figure that comes across a public attack such as this would have to be affected. Sometimes the comments become really harsh that I have to re-word them or remove them. Most of the comments have only one message that they want to send across and that is for Willie to learn from this mistake. They want him to realize that as a public figure, his actions weigh more than a regular person. To be idolized and seen by many as a person with a big heart and who wants to help others yet have a weakness in temper, he should simply take this as a learning experience.
The latest news from Manila Bulletin is that Revillame now faces an in-depth investigation by MTCRB (Movie, and Television Review and Classification Board)
“for making allegedly unethical comments in the same popular noontime show that reportedly caused serious emotional distress in the children of an estranged couple.”
The complainant is seeking the cancellation of broadcasting permit or license the noontime show for alleged violation of certain provisions of the MTRCB Implementing Rules and Regulations, particularly for its failure to provide wholesome and reinforced positive values for the young audiences. - Source

Filipino Photographer Gene Tobia – Star of 365 Photostreams on Flickr
Filipino Gene Tobia, a Registered Nurse, an orchid breeder, and a self-portraitist has made vow to take 365 photos of himself in a period of one year. Starting back in October 18, 2009 – Stars of the Photostream on Flickr, he took his first shot.
Today, although lagging a bit behind, Gene has taken numerous photos of himself where at times his photos are joyful and very colorful, and at times – they are dreary and sad.
I admire his photos as each one transcends the message he’d like to relay to the viewer. One of the s0mber-themed photograph I saw was a picture of himself with his back turned from the camera and a rope tied around his neck in what seems to be a basement with a very small window. It seems freaky to say the least that a photographer would have that thought but it’s his art and he’s more than welcome to show his inner demons.
There are plenty of playful photographs as well as he takes a photo of himself dressed as a rabbi, a cowboy, a redneck and many others as he played with colors and lighting.

Just as the New York Post had written about the current Philippine President’s dinner at Le Cirque Restaurant (a restaurant for the Rich and Famous), bloggers from all every walk of life reacted. Poverty-stricken and unsure of its future, the Philippines remain one of the countries in Asia who lag in economic prowess and stability.
This reminded me of Corazon Aquino’s simplicity. After two decades of the Marcos rule and the well-known lavishness of Imelda Marcos commissioning coutouriers to make her dresses for local and international state visits, the late President Cory Aquino did exactly the opposite in order to rule by example.

“Sabi ko, ba’t mala-live na naman tayo? Eh, ‘yun daw ang order. Nanonood lang ako dito (sa loob ng dressing room), dahil tinape na namin ang unang portion, eh. Ang unang portion, ‘yung ‘Giling-Giling’ at ‘Cash o Bukas,’ ‘yung ‘Willie of Fortune,’ wala pa. So, habang nanood akong mag-isa rito, nagigiling-giling kaming lahat, ininsert ngayon ‘yung kabaong ni Tita Cory. So, tinawagan ko si Tita Linggit (Tan, head of TV Entertainment Production),” paliwanag pa ni Willie.
Ini-isa ngayon ni Willie ang punto niya kung bakit siya nagsalita ng ganoon ere, na unfortunately hindi naging maganda ang dating sa ibang tao. “Sabi ko, Tita Linggit, ano ba naman ‘yan, ang pangit. Ang pangit sa atin ‘yan. Nagluluksa, nagdadalamhati ang sambayanan tapos makikita nilang nagsasaya tayo. Tinanggal naman (footage). Eh di tinanggal na, okay na. Tapos, nag-live na. ‘Willie of Fortune,’ eh di, masaya. Tapos nu’ng may dalawang contestant na babae, ayun, pinasok na naman. Doon na ako nag-react. Imagine, sinabi ko na eh, so parang wala ba kayong pakiramdam? So sana, pinreempt na lang natin nag-show na Wowowee. ”
Ayaw na lang banggitin ni Willie kung sino man ang nag-order ng mga ganoong sistema that time, ayon pa sa TV host, inamin naman ng mga kinauukulan na, they were the ones at fault. Dagdag pa ni Willie, sa kasagsagan ng kontrobersyang ito, tinanong daw niya ang ABS-CBN, kung may kasalanan siya o wala? “Wala, pero ‘yung manner. Manner? Tinawag ko na sa inyo ‘yan offcam. From there, call na naman sa “Willie of Fortune.” Si Tita Linggit, nagalit din siya roon eh, kasi inorder na rin nila, eh, hindi ko naman alam kung saan naggaling ‘yun, kung sa news or saan.”
Aminado si Willie, worried ang ABS-CBN dahil sa mga text brigade that they have been receiving after the said incident. Pero dahil malinis ang kunsensya ni Willie at mariin niyang sinasabi na hindi niya intensyon ang makasakit, kaya niyang harapin ang lahat ng bumabatikos sa kanya. Nagti-text din sina Willie at Kris Aquino, they are in touch, at mismong si Kris pa ang nagsabi kay Willie na nagpapa-abot ang buong pamilya nila ang pasasalamat at sinabi pa ng bunsong anak ni Tita Cory, ang misnan ay pinasaya rin ni Willie ang yumaong dating Pangulo. “Sabi ni Kris, ‘pag binabati mo sina Josh at Baby James, ngumingiti ang mommy ko.”

The character Heathcliff Huxtable (Bill Cosby) from the Cosby Show used to imitate her a lot. Unless, you are an aspiring chef or you simply love food. Deadspin, allegedly leaked photos of Texas Ranger Outfielder Josh Hamilton as he partied in Tempe, Arizona back in January of this year.
Josh Hamilton made headlines when he overcame drug and alcohol addiction and have surrendered himself to Jesus. (We all know that you become an easy target if you pronounce that!)
He realized his mistake and have said:
“I’m embarrassed about it for my wife Katie, for my kids and for the organization,” Hamilton said. “I’m not perfect. It’s an ongoing struggle, and it’s real. It’s amazing how these things can creep back in. But I am human and I have struggles.”
“If I think I can have one drink, I think I can have two, and then it snowballs to 10 or 12,” Hamilton said. “As soon as it happened, I called my support staff — Katie, the organization and MLB — and told them what happened. I was open and honest about it. People with an addiction can make a mistake.”

It was no surprise that G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra starring Channing Tatum took the box office lead this weekend as predicted by many earning $56.2 million dollars. Julie & Julia starring Merryl Streep and Amy Adams took second place earning $20.1 million. Funny People with Adam Sandler and Judd Apatow took third place with $7.9 million according to E-Online.com.

Mr. M (Johnny Manahan) speaks on behalf of Willie Revillame
It’s not over until the fat lady sings. The fury of the people regarding Willie’s actions during the now infamous segment of Wowowee when he blurted words out to remove the late President’s Cortege from the inset on the screen is evident. The petition filed online by a certain Roel C. Saguisag has become a firestorm with signatures approaching 23 thousand. There were assumptions that these signatures are from Willie’s detractors only and some have even questioned its credibility since anyone can sign the petition up to however many times they would like to sign it.
According to Johnny Manahan when interviewed by PEP, Willie Revillame has been asked to take a leave on Monday but Willie decided to go earlier stating that “he feels isolated and beleaguered”. He may be back in a day, a week or two weeks but they didn’t know exactly. It wasn’t clear however who asked Willie to take the leave.
Mr. M continued to defend Willie when he said:
“All he wanted to do was to get the video of the wake off the air: either you air the wake or air Wowowee, not both, because it would be disrespectful… what with girls dancing, enjoying ourselves here while the wake of a beloved President and a national icon was being held.”
Mr. M is one of the most successful talent managers in the country and he is a friend of Willie. He knows Willie well that is why he wanted to speak out on his behalf. He stated:
“He would never disrespect anyone’s wake or anyone’s grieving family. I don’t know when he will be back. Maybe he will soldier on and do the two-week leave, or, again, he may be back next week. Meanwhile, he has a real time to rest, be alone, and contemplate the future.”
In fact, he knows Willie well to say this:
“Once in a while, because of snafus created by the staff and crew, he blows up on air. Because he is perfectionist, he rehearses more than anyone I know. He expects everyone to know the plan because he goes into a trance doing the show and any slight divergence from the plan breaks his trance and affects the performance.”
“Willie should not have blown up on air. He should not have given in to his emotions which put him out of control, leaving him wide open for mistakes. This mistake led him to an emotional tirade against who ordered the insert and resulted in ambiguous statement which his detractors were only happy to perpetuate via text and blogs. Binabaligtad nila ang ibig sabihin ni Willie.
“I have often talked to him about blowing up on air. I told him that it is never good. This is perhaps his greatest fault as a performer. He hides displeasure poorly and likes to make corrections right away, even during live shows. He has to work on this because it has caught up with him but the incident was not caused by him alone.
“His enemies could not be happier stoking the heat and fires on the airwaves. Willie may seem arrogant and insensitive sometimes—but not this time. His enemies will have to wait for another time.
“He had nothing but respect and admiration for President Cory Aquino, Kris, and the rest of the dignified Aquino family. In this instance, Willie was right and they are wrong.”
I think that this is exactly the point why the people are outraged. It is simply not because it seemed like Willie disregarded the funeral. Most of the comments are speaking of Willie’s attitude from the past, repeatedly scolding people on air. I just think that people are very vulnerable at this time because a well-respected icon just passed away. To them, Willie’s remarks during that moment was the last straw. It is evident that people weren’t pleased with his attitude towards his staff on air.. and this event simply highlighted that fact.
I’m sure that all of these will be ironed out in the end most specially that Kris Aquino herself was quoted by Mr. M saying,
“Lastly, I heard Kris saying that President Cory’s last words were. ‘Take care of each other.’ I’m taking care of Willie.”

Darna Premieres on GMA 7 on Monday- Are you ready?
Fans would be very very pleased with the new Darna. I think that it doesn’t matter who you cast as Darna, the show will surely be a hit. Why? Because Darna is embedded in Filipino culture. She is our superhero. Every Filipino child has to know who Darna is and it doesn’t matter if we remake it and remake it… generation after generation. We will always have Darna.
Folks of every generation can speak of Darna and her enemies with a drop a hat. Darna at ang Babaing Impakta, Darna at ang Babaing Tuod, Darna and Valentina… Darna and… etc. We can speak fondly of it and regardless of how cheesy the settings were during those times, we can all relate.
On Monday, we get to see Marian Rivera portray the heroine of our culture. As a preview, GMA 7 has released photos of Darna and her villains.

Kris Aquino on the Willie Revillame Comment: He apologized. End of Story. But is this what Filipinos are looking for?

Willie Revillame spoke once again and admitted that he really did not intend to offend anyone but if he did, he apologized. According to the statement he gave to ABS-CBN News:
“I am asking forgiveness to those who were offended. I hope you understand I had no intention to offend. If there are people who were offended, I apologize. For myself, my intention there was to give respect and make the occasion a solemn one.”
“Kung ako’y hindi nila wine-welcome at sa tingin ko ho na ako’y hindi na welcome sa bawa’t Pilipino, sa araw-araw na gusto nila makasama, ako po’y aalis na sa programa,” he said.
The online petition filed by Filipinos worldwide must have caught the attention of MTRCB as MTCRB Chairwoman Laguardia stated, there could be sanctions imposed against Willie Revillame for violating KBP Code.

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, meanwhile, said it is eyeing possible sanctions against Revillame. It said Revillame’s comments falls under MTRCB’s jurisdiction and violates Presidential Decree 1986 Section 3c which states that the MTRCB may sanction portions of programs deemed “indecent, contrary to law and or good customs and injurious to the prestige of the Republic of the Philippines or its people.”
“It’s really a violation of PD 1986 and the [Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas] Code. He should have had respect. He should gone off air,” MTRCB Chairwoman Consoliza Laguardia said.
She said the MTRCB will send a letter to ABS-CBN management next week about its decision on Revillame’s case.
Revillame, meanwhile, said he will respect the decision of the government censors. He added, however, that what is important is that he has already explained himself to the Aquino family.
“Kung may pagkakasala ako at kailangan niyo akong ipakulong, e di magpapakulong ako,” he said.
“Ang importante ay nakausap ko na ang Aquino family. Natanggap nila na wala akong intensyon na mambastos sa kanila.” – Source
However, the supporters of Tita Cory who were deeply offended continued to sign the online petition addressed to MTCRB, ABS-CBN and PANA. The numbers continue to grow every minute as it has gone up to 13 thousand signatures as of this writing.
Columnist Ricky Lo contacted Kris Aquino via text message regarding the matter to obtain her opinion.
I texted Kris Aquino yesterday for her reaction and she texted back, “I spoke at length with Willie last night.”
Asked what they talked about, Kris replied, “Tito Ricky, may I just keep my conversation with Willie private? We are friends; he has always gone out of his way to be good to my kids, Josh especially. Nag-sorry siya to all of us. For me, end of story na.” - Source
Although I believe that it is really up to the Aquino Family to accept Willie’s forgiveness and surely we are glad that Kris Aquino humbly accepted Willie’s apologies. The only difference in this situation is that the Filipino people were offended as well and it will be interesting find out what the “supporters” would do even after Kris Aquino has stated her position on the matter.
From the comments on the petition, the Filipinos all over the globe want to see Willie reprimanded in order that he will learn from this experience. They insist that he should not be displaying arrogance and disrespect to anyone among his staff, producers, guests or contestants on the Wowowee show. And I believe, THAT is what FILIPINOS want to see.

AGB Mega Manila TV Ratings (August 4-6): Filipinos unite for President Cory Aquino’s funeral
The TV coverage of former President Cory Aquino’s wake and funeral dominated the ratings chart the last three days.
GMA7′s coverage of the necrological service for the late president last Tuesday, August 4, came in second behind Eat Bulaga! in the daytime race. The Kapuso network’s primetime newscast, 24 Oras—which carried reports about the necrological service—topped the primetime race.
As expected, the coverage of President Aquino’s funeral—from the Requiem Mass, to the eight-hour funeral march, up to the actual burial—last Wednesday, August 5, topped both the daytime and primetime race.
When regular programming resumed last Thursday, August 6, GMA-7′s Eat Bulaga! (daytime) and ABS-CBN’s May Bukas Pa (primetime) came on top.

TNS National TV Ratings (August 4-6): Coverage of President Aquino’s funeral watched by millions
As expected, the coverage of former President Corazon Aquino’s funeral last Wednesday, August 5, was closely monitored by the Filipinos—who weren’t able to make it to the funeral—on television.
Regular programming was momentarily scrapped to give way to the coverage of the last night of President Aquino’s wake and her funeral the following day.
But all went back to “normal” last Thursday, August 6, as ABS-CBN’s Wowowee and May Bukas resumed their No. 1 positions.
Here are the comparative ratings of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 programs from August 4 to 6, based on the overnight ratings of Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) among national households:

Filipinos Worldwide sign Petition Online against Willie Revillame – 11K and going.
Filipinos all over the world show unity against Willie Revillame’s actions during Tita Cory’s Funeral. When the news broke out the day after they aired the “Wowowee” segment, a online petition was filed by a user hiding in the name of “badwilly” through PetionOnline.com. The Petition to Oust Willie Revillame started with less than a thousand signatures when I first took notice.
Today, after several days – the petition has received a support of almost 12,000 signatures as of this writing. There hasn’t been any response from ABS-CBN, MTCRB and PANA. However, the outrage among Filipinos are very obvious. The comments they have left on the petition site clearly states that they have let go of Willie’s actions in the past but the moment that “Willie showed disrespect” to Tita Cory, that was the last string for them. ABS-CBN News did pick up the story as well stating that even the spokesperson for the Aquino Family had condemned Willie’s actions.
A statement from Dee Dee Siytangco, spokesperson of the Aquino family, read: “It is regrettable and a crass attempt to desecrate the memory of the beloved Tita Cory.”

The petition states:
Willie have chosen to let the contestant dance instead of cutting short her act and give way to the coverage of the cortege. Willie have chosen to blurt out his rude comments ON-AIR instead of Off-cam. In short, Willie have chosen to have fun instead of giving way to the funeral of Pres. Corazon Aquino. So they’d rather have fun instead of pay our respects to our democracy icon? That was not a good example to our youth today.
Comments received through this blog have the same sentiments. They have ignored Willie’s actions in the past towards his staff (on-the-air) but this is going to be the exception.
Filipinos want to see “action done in order to teach Willie Revillame a lesson”, said one petitioner. “dapat turuan ng leksiyon yang si Willie..lumalaki na masyado ang ulo..marami na sya naging kaso na pinalagpas ng network nila..hindi na nakakatuwa…”, said another.
This is still brewing and I believe the Filipinos will continue to sign the petition until their voices are heard. Don’t you agree? Additional calls for boycotting Wowowee and products endorsed by the Network until Wilie is reprimanded have been expressed by the commenters. The craziest thing? Most of them are TFC subscribers from all over the world and most of them support ABS-CBN.

Sa speech ni Kris Aquino sa Requiem Mass para sa ina niyang si dating Pangulong Cory Aquino last August 5, binanggit ng TV host-actress na narinig niya na sinabi ng anak niyang si Josh na: “Please, Tito Noy, never get married.”
Ang tinutukoy na “Tito Noy” ni Kris ay ang nag-iisang kapatid niyang lalake na si Senator Noynoy Aquino. Pero idinagdag din ng bunsong anak ng Pangulong Aquino, kung saan masaya si Senator Aquino ay “puwede na rin.”
Lingid sa kaalaman ng marami, meron na raw palang girlfriend si Noynoy ngayon. Ito ay ang Valenzuela City councilor na si Shalani Soledad.
Ayon sa report ng People’s Tonight, isa si Shalani sa nagpunta sa unang gabi ng lamay ni President Aquino noong August 5 sa La Salle Greenhills. Pero sinadya raw ng konsehala, na nakasuot ng itim gaya ng karamihang nakikiramay, na dumistansiya kay Noynoy. May mga pagkakataon din daw na tahimik na nakatayo siya sa tabi ni Kris.
Commendable Honor Guards – Maraming Salamat!

If you watched the funeral procession of the late President Corazon Aquino from Manila Cathedral to Manila Memorial Park, you would have noticed the four honor guards who stood beside the former President’s coffin atop the flatbed trailer (hearse). They stood there from the moment the procession started until it reached Manila Memorial Park which lasted for eight hours.
The honor guards were PO1 Danilo Maalab, Pfc. Antonio Cadiente, Airman 2nd Class Gener Laguindan, and Navy Petty Officer 3 Edgardo Rodriguez.
A resolution to commend all four guards will be filed at the Senate.
Just imagine standing for eight hours straight, without any movement, in the rain with high winds. They didn’t have a decent meal prior to the procession and sipped rain water to quench their thirst. I believe these four deserve our thanks. And they humbly say that they did it for the service to President Corazon Aquino and their country.
According to Senator Pilana Cayetano:
“They did their job well and I will file a resolution commending them because it is symbolic of what people in public service should do. Whatever your job is, do it well,” Cayetano said Thursday during the weekly news forum at the Senate. – Source

PerezHilton.com published most recently, the hacked blackberry nude photos of Vanessa Hudgens. The girl got in trouble once when her nude pictures sufraced online back in 2007. Disney forgave her then saying that they hope she learned from the experience.
Apparently not. The most recent photos published are too provocative to even publish here. It was reported that Vanessa Hudgens’ lawyers have contacted PerezHilton.com to remove the photos from his site since Vanessa is still considered underage (20-years-old).
The timing of photo release is also questionable since her upcoming movie “Bandslam” is about to be released next week (August 14).
The half-Filipina actress is sure to get a flurry of remarks from parents of children who are faithful to High School Musical. Disney promotes very wholesome entertainment and to have someone like Vanessa tarnish that image could be detrimental to not only Disney’s future but her future as well.
What’s with the desire to take photos of oneself naked anyway? I’m sure this time, Disney will not be pleased.

Photos recently taken of 34-year-old Leonardo Dicaprio shows a much leaner body while on a vacation trip in Ibiza, Spain. He was dating the Israeli Supermodel Bar Rafaeli (most recently on the news because of her Youtube video commercial in the nude to promote art for Israel) but was reported to have recently broken up.

AGB Total Urban Luzon TV Ratings July 19-25: May Bukas Pa wins anew

There were comments regarding AGB Nielsen’s change of tune regarding their ratings. The most recent AGB surveys now show ABS-CBN to be on top of the ratings game since TNS started keeping tab of the most popular shows being shown in the Philippines. Questions regarding credibility by AGB Nielsen arose when their results completely contrasted that of TNS. Now, it seems that the surveys are meshing. One commenter said, “This is a ploy. AGB wants to gain their credibility back because the ratings they were showing were way off than what the general public sees”. If you check the POLL on the sidebar to your right, you will see that the results show TNS to be more credible according to readers and the ABS-CBN is winning the rating wars.
Surprisingly, AGB Nielsen has been showing recently that ABS-CBN is on top. This has not been the case in previous months before TNS stepped into the picture. Could the comments be true? I guess we’ll just have to play it by ear.
Here’s the most recent survey results:
For the third consecutive week, ABS-CBN’s inspirational drama May Bukas Pa topped the ratings among Total Urban Luzon households. The show, which has been running for six months now, posted an average rating of 32.6 percent for the July 19 to 25 period to lead all programs.
Tayong Dalawa, another Kapamilya drama, also maintained its second-place finish with 31.6 percent. Only You, also from ABS-CBN, climbed from No. 6 to No. 3 with 30.9 percent.
GMA-7′s Zorro (29 percent) and 24 Oras (27.8 percent), both slipped one notch from their previous positions last week to take the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol World (26.8 percent) came in sixth, while GMA-7′s Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (26.2 percent), Rosalinda (25.2 percent), and Eat Bulaga! (23.5 percent) took the seventh to ninth slots.
GMA-7′s Adik Sa ‘Yo and ABS-CBN’s Rated K tied for No. 10 and No. 11 with an identical average rating of 23.3 percent.
The newcomers for this particular week were ABS-CBN’s The Wedding (No. 24), ASAP ’09 (No. 28), XXX (No. 29), and Goin’ Bulilit (No. 30), and GMA-7′s Power of 10 (No. 25).
GMA-7 still leads in terms of household ratings and audience share over its nearest competitor, ABS-CBN. Household rating: GMA-7 (15.4 percent) vs. ABS-CBN (14.7 percent); Audience share: GMA-7 (37.5 percent) vs. ABS-CBN (35.7 percent).
GMA-7 had 15 shows in the Top 30 programs, while ABS-CBN had 14 and TV5 had one.

Criticisms mount against Wowowee host Willie Revillame

The criticisms started with a barrage of text messages no sooner than a day after the “Wowowee” segment aired.. people passed text messages – -
“In Willie Revillame’s show yesterday, dey wr showin a clip of Cory’s motorcade sa inset. He suddenly freaks out on air & says “Ano ba yan!!! Kung gusto nyo pakita yan, yan na lang. Kung ako, ako lang. Nagsasaya kmi d2 sa show na 2. Ayusin nyo yan!(“) It was disrespectful. Jus d other day hs boss Gabby Lopez profusely thankd Cory 4givin dem bak ABS-CBN. now Willie shuns her! Wat a disgrace! Pls pass so others wud kno.”
Then bloggers got a hold of the news, some of them even saw the actual show (myself included). Then, the cry for his ouster mounted to a Petition Online with a letter to PANA, MTCRB and ABS-CBN to reprimand Willie Revillame for his actions. When I viewed the petition yesterday afternoon, there were about 1096 signatures. I checked it this morning and the signatures have reached over 5000!! This is serious. Everyone wants Willie to know that he should be more responsible specially when he’s on the air. The world is watching.

Wowowee host Willie Revillame’s remark seen on national television last Monday, August 3, earned the ire of the Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamamahayag (AFIMA).
In a written statement sent via e-mail to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) earlier today, August 6, the organization condemned Willie’s “arrogance” and issued a demand that the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) give the controversial noontime show host “the hardest lesson.”
The AFIMA was reacting to Willie’s comment in the middle of Wowowee’s “Willie of Fortune” segment. While the nation was deeply mourning the death of ex-president and democracy icon Corazon “Cory” Aquino, ABS-CBN decided to insert a live feed of its special coverage of the transfer of Aquino’s remains while simultaneously airing the popular noontime show.
The leader and chief architect of the historic 1986 bloodless People Power revolution lay in state for two days at the La Salle Greenhills gym in Mandaluyong City before transferring to the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila.
Distracted by the image running on the monitor, Willie snapped and immediately demanded the removal of the live clip, explaining, “Di po maganda. Nagsasaya kami dito habang nagluluksa ang sambayanang Pilipino. Di ko magagampanan ang pagpapatawa habang ipinapakita ang libing ng dating president.”
“HE ONLY CARES FOR HIS EGO.” Willie’s public outburst met violent reaction from viewers, who saw his brazen action as “rude” and “totally insensitive” considering the weight of the situation.
The AFIMA’s statement mirrors the same observation:
“HE HAS BEEN AT IT NOT ONCE BUT IN COUNTLESS TIMES! His show is so popular that any bad thing he does is mistaken for a fad or ‘alright’ by the young. Misdemeanors to him are the general rule, good manners are the exception.
“He was caught by millions of viewers in an act as if he was cheating on his prize-giving game. He was heard several times by several millions utter words without regard to repercussions. He does not care for others. He does not care for his country. He does not care for women. He only cares for his ego.
“His is arrogance and greed. What he wants is what he gets. He does not mind the dozens killed in chasing false dreams he created as a culture of his own.
“So many times he has been in it. Yet in no time has he been called to repent. He is sacred even as he desecrates. Every time he does one, he gets bolder.
“We have forgiven him when he did a trick on a prize-giving event. We have forgiven him in countless pasts. This latest caper is already too much. He is already desecrating the symbol of the nation, the symbol of democracy, the “Saint of People Power.”
“For him to demand the removal of the little window screen showing the funeral march of the woman who got ABS-CBN back from Marcos is a blasphemy of democracy, an act despicable as him fucking his own mother.
“He may have the right to demand it, but he never waited until the next commercial break to quietly do it. He expressed his angst against Corazon Aquino funeral being shown side by side his “Wowowee” right before the dumbstruck millions of Filipino viewers around the globe.
“For this, Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamamahayag (AFIMA) demands in the strongest terms for the Movie and Televisions Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to give him the hardest lesson for him to learn.”

Revillame stressed that his reaction was not intended to disrespect the memory of the beloved late president. He reiterated that the somber mood brought by Cory’s passing contradicted the supposed joyous vibe of his program.
“Ang feeling ko hindi magandang ipinapakita ‘yon habang kami’y nagsasaya… Sa sitwasyon na ito, kung may nasaktan ako, I’m sorry. Sa pamilya Aquino, alam ng buong pamilya Aquino [na] wala akong masamang intention doon.”
