Why is today’s Google Doodle showing a barcode?
It’s always interesting how Google gets people to wonder what the heck their doodle displays. It makes people think. I thought that it may have something to do with the anniversary of the barcode or something because they have done that in the past. Just like the time when they mispelled google with a double “ll” because it was Google’s 11th birthday.
Well, today’s explanation is this. After a little research on the barcode, it shows that it is the barcode’s 57th year since it was officially patented back in October 7, 1952. And if you scan the barcode that Google presents on their page, they said that it reads GOOGLE or gOOGLE. Some comments even say that it reads googleg with an extra “g” in the end.
Regardless, it’s a clever way to get people’s attention. It got mine.
Edgar Allan Poe to get proper funeral after 160 years
One of my favorite authors - Edgar Allan Poe, born in 1809 who authored books of horror like The Raven, The Black Cat, The Pit and the Pendulum and so forth will receive a proper funeral in Baltimore, Maryland. When Edgar Allan Poe died in 1849, only 10 people attended his funeral originally since his cousin never announced his death publicly.
There is a lot of interest (I’ve actually been to Baltimore and have seen his tomb), and there are 350 people expected to attend. There will be actors who will portray to be Poe’s friends and contemporaries. Baltimore will host two funerals and will even show a replica of Edgar Allan Poe’s body lying in state at the Poe House and Museum tomorrow.

Indie Film “I Love Dreamguyz” tackles the same issue – - Macho Dancers
I have said this over and over again and I guess it has fallen on deaf ears because we continue to produce independent films that revolves around the same story… Macho Dancers. Granted, it is a money-maker and yes, sex does sell but come on.
In this latest film by Joel Lamangan, a story evolves around a group of five men as entertainers in Japan star-billed by the frontal nudity king, Marco Morales.
Synopsis: Five young men land job contracts as entertainers in Japan and form a new hip-hop dance group called Dreamguyz. Guided by their gay manager DIDI (Jao Mapa), they spend the next few months before their trip bonding as friends who share a common dream of finding greener pastures in the Land of the Rising Sun.
MICHAEL (actor) worked as a dancer in Japan when he was still a minor, using a fictitious name and a forged passport. He makes sure his recruiter doesn’t find out he’s not a first-timer to Japan like the rest of the guys. BENJO (actor) seeks to escape a cruel stepfather and find his missing older brother, a musician turned illegal alien in Japan. ALVIN (actor) is Didi’s lover, who openly expresses his affections for his benefactor while hoping to make his own money in Japan.
The movie opens November 4 in Manila and select theaters nationwide.
I never miss anything but I missed this. Prince William in Speedos?
Granted, he’s heir to the throne. He is well-liked, well-mannered and a role model. Of course, Prince Harry is still hotter just because he is the “bad boy” type. Still, to witness the Royal Prince in speedos is a sight to behold. I just couldn’t believe I missed it. When will we find a Prince Harry picture in speedos? Hopefully soon!

Best Friends Sharon Cuneta and Judy Ann Santos nominated for Best Actress for the 57th Annual FAMAS Awards
It’s kind of ironic but I guess Judy Ann Santos (Ploning) and Sharon Cuneta (Caregiver) would both wish each other well and may the best one win. Both women are nominated for Best Actress in the upcoming FAMAS Awards. According to Starmometer.com, the Board of Directors of the FAMAS Awards have been announced. Angel Locsin, ‘Kahit Isang Saglit’ bag International Emmy nominations

MANILA – ABS-CBN’s Angel Locsin and the teleserye “Kahit Isang Saglit” were declared as official nominees in the 37th International Emmy Awards, the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS) announced Monday.
The list of nominees for this year’s International Emmy Awards were released Monday.
Locsin’s performance as a she-wolf in the ABS-CBN teleserye “Lobo” merited a nomination under the Best Performace by an Actress category.
Locsin is joined in the category by Emma De Caunes (“Night Birds,” CHEZ WAM, France); Cecilia Suarez (“Capadocia,” HBO Latin America Originals, Mexico); and Julie Walters (“A Short Stay in Switzerland”, BBC, United Kingdom).

Big Brother finally reveals his Double Up mystery

October 4 marked the opening of the Big Brother house and its third season. With its magical reveal, Kuya made his new batch of housemates appear and vanish without a trace in front of a live audience at the PBB eviction hall. Also, the mystery of the term “double up” was revealed – two houses and two sets of twins!
First inside Kuya’s house was Princess Manzon, who auditioned in Tokyo, Japan. Born and raised in Cebu, Princess left the Philippines when she was in highschool to live with her mom in Japan. There she discovered something about her mom which prompted her to live independently. Called the “Sassy Vamp of Cebu,” Princess is currently working as a receptionist and a language instructor.
ABS-CBN issues official statement on Sagip Kapamilya detractors
Sumagot ang ABS-CBN sa mga mapanirang text message na kumakalat ngayon na sinasabing mabagal umano ang distribusyon nito ng mga relief goods sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo, hindi ito nakikipag-coordinate sa gobyerno, at dagdag exposure ang habol ng mga Kapamilya artista sa pagsama nila sa mga programang Sagip Kapamilya.
Sa isang official statement, isinagot ng Kapamilya network ang mga paratang nilalaman ng text messages na nanggaling umano sa mga university student leaders na nag-assist sa ABS-CBN Relief Centers. Narito ang kabuuan ng nasabing official statement:
“ABS-CBN continues to receive the generous outpouring of help from individuals, groups, and companies. Because of the numerous donations, Sagip Kapamilya is able to deploy relief goods to more than 12 affected areas daily with or without the artists. To date, Sagip Kapamilya has delivered relief to 161,124 families. The cash donations we have received will be earmarked to help in the rehabilitation projects. We profusely thank our kind-hearted donors, volunteers, and artists. Together with them, Sagip Kapamilya will continue to serve the Filipinos affected by typhoon Ondoy.”

I received an email from a friend (who normally does not forward any emails that he has not verified against Snopes.com (otherwise he will receive a barrage of emails back condeming him of spreading false information.. hehe!). The email is about a tropical fruit we Filipinos know as Guyabano and the benefits of its leaves and bark to cancer treatment. I love Guyabano and in fact, when I was little, my aunts and uncles will bring home loads of these fruits from the province and share them with neighbors as well. My mom usually makes Guyabano juice from its pulp and I loved it!!
Although my life is going quite well, it still saddens me to hear about people around me who have been diagnosed with cancer. My sister’s nanny was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and another friend’s brother was diagnosed with leukemia. Cancer is a disease that has been with us for a long time. Yes, there have been many advances in medicine that helps in prolonging the lives of cancer patients and some even go into remission for years without the disease coming back to haunt them. Yet, it is still a killer. It is still around. And the most famous therapy is “chemotheraphy” and “radiation”. We’ver heard about its ill-effects to the patient while under treatment right? In fact, my sister went through it when she was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago. Thank God, she is now in remission.

Typhoon Ondoy wasn’t a factor at Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal’s premier night for their movie Nandito Ako… Nagmamahal Sa ‘Yo last September 27, 2009 at the SM Megamall Cinema 10.
“Halo halong emosyon ang nararamdaman namin ni Kris ngayon,” shared Aljur with Startalk. “Kinakabahan kasi hindi kami masyado nakapag-promote, tapos iyong nangyari pa.”
But Aljur said that that nervousness was overshadowed by concern for the people who were affected by the storm. He added that he and Kris were just going to finish the premier and then immediately roll up their sleeves and assist in helping their fellow stars in doing what they can for Ondoy’s victims. Pinoy Big Brother Double Up will have 2 houses and 2 sets of housemates
Identical twin housemates and the use of two houses are some of the twists introduced in Pinoy Big Brother Double Up, which aired earlier tonight, October 4.
The opening night, dubbed as “The Magical Reveal,” had magicians performing sleight-of-hand tricks while the housemates themselves took part in disappearing acts. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the three hosts of PBB Double Up—Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, and Bianca Gonzales—ushered in the 14 housemates who will be staying in the closely monitored house in the coming weeks.
The housemates were chosen from 57,824 applicants who personally went to the 18 audition sites located worldwide.
Those who were introduced earlier tonight were the following:

Ex-housemates who took part in the opening of the third edition of Pinoy Big Brother included Cass Ponti of PBB Season 1, Niña Jose of PBB Teen Edition, plus Wendy Valdez and Gee-Ann Abrahan of PBB Season 2. First season housemates Jayson Gainza and Franzen Fajardo also showed their rapping skills during the opening night.
Mcoy Fundales of PBB Celebrity Edition 2 ended the night with his rendition of “Pinoy Ako,” the PBB theme song.
DOUBLE UP CHALLENGE. Inside the confession room, Big Brother instructed the two sets of twins—JP and JM as well as Toffi and Kenny—for their first challenge. He revealed that there are two houses that will operate in this edition. He forbade them from informing the other housemates about the existence of the two houses and reveal that they have a twin brother. The twins will go to separate houses but in the future, Big Brother will instruct them to exchange places. When they transfer houses, the other housemates must not realize that they have switched places. If they succeed in this task, they will be saved in the first round of eliminations. But if they fail, they will incur the penalty of forced eviction.
The Big Winner of PBB Double Up will get P1 million cash, a house and lot worth P2.5 million, a water business franchise, and an Asian tour. Aside from that, the Final Four will get to choose charitable institutions that will receive cash amounts equivalent to what they would be taking home.
Viewers were given a glimpse of the newly renovated house that can be found in the same lot located near the ABS-CBN building in Quezon City. The walls have been painted with colorful swirls that are said to be inspired by the Dutch post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh.
The reality show of ABS-CBN will air every weeknight right after Dahil May Isang Ikaw starting tomorrow, October 5.
Butse Gang Celebrates a milestone for one of its members
Ang pinaka masarap na “killing me softly” na hindi ko natikman. Lechong Kawali!
Hokay?! It has been ages since we had a party. Di ba nga recession kaya toned-down ang mga gatherings ng “Butse Gang”. But this time, our Brian Gorrell persona reached a milestone and it was worth celebrating.
The Butse Gang has been around for quite some time now. I remember when I moved back to East Coast back in 1997, the group had already existed. There were some 15 or so people in the group. Mga vaklang verde and dugo! Haha! Imagine a house-full of these people, baka ‘di nyo ma-carry.
Years passed and I can’t even believe that it’s been 12 years since I met them. The group has grown to approximately 30 people but to the extent that some would drop off and others would join. It remains a solid group even though some of us have moved on to other things.
The parties are always the best. We get together and we forget about the “alitan” and we turn into Tupperware for several hours “para makipag-plastikan” for the sake of peace… Bwahahaha! It works. We give the celebrant the respect they deserve.
This year’s party wasn’t much different. Excellent food, great company and of course – - MGA INTRIGA! Here are the photos from the party. Maraming kuwento pero next time na lang. Mga sikretong di kapani-paniwala.

Kim Bum of ‘Boys Over Flowers’ extends his sympathies to Filipino flood victims
South Korean heartthrob Kim Bum, who played Yi Jeong in the Koreanovela Boys Over Flowers, extended his sympathies to Filipino fans affected by Typhoon Ondoy. A press conference was held at ABS-CBN on October 3 for the star’s product endorsement and an upcoming soap to be aired on ABS-CBN, titled Dream.
Through an interpreter, the young actor said to all Filipino flood victims, “I’m very sorry and it’s a very sensitive topic so I’m very worried for them. But please do not lose your hope and dreams. As an actor I will do my role because that’s what I do (best). I’m doing what I’m doing to make them smile and help them get back on track and God bless them all.”
Jake Cuenca is willing to a houseguest on “PBB’s Double Up”
Now that a new season of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) has begun, viewers are already wondering who among the Kapamilya celebrities will become a houseguest following the likes of Mariel Rodriguez, Toni Gonzaga, and Luis Manzano among others. During a recent interview with ABS-CBN.com, Jake Cuenca admitted that not only is he willing to visit the PBB house, but that he almost became a celebrity housemate as well. “I was actually invited right before I did Palos. I think that was the batch of Baron Geisler, Jon Avila, Victor Basa, and Will Devaughn. I was going to do it kasi I wanted to experience PBB,” he recalled.
PBB Double Up housemates will enter Big Brother’s house tonight
This Sunday (October 4), the whole country will get to see the official housemates of Pinoy Big Brother Double UP. The third edition of ABS-CBN’s reality show will have its “magical opening” starting 7:30 pm on the Kapamilya Network.
The ubiquitous Kuya (otherwise known as Big Brother) will finally reveal the identities of the newest housemates who were chosen from 17 audition sites and meticulously screened from among 57,824 applicants.
According to PBB business unit head Lauren Dyogi, “This is the longest, most tedious PBB audition we ever had. We also had the most number of people who auditioned. We had more than 50,000 including the last two auditions we had in Japan and San Francisco.”

The effect of typhoon Ondoy was also very evident in the ratings games. Since most of Mega Manila households had no electricity, the ratings last week—most notably September 26 and 27—dropped significantly with most shows posting below 10 percent ratings.

Erin Andrews Peephole Video suspect Michael David Barrett Arrested

One of the craziest and most bizarre cases ever. Imagine yourself being alone in a hotel room, not knowing that someone is taking a video of yourself while you’re undressed and then spreading it all over the internet.
This happened to Erin Andrews, a sportscaster for ESPN who while alone and dressing up in her hotel room was allegedly videotaped by Michael David Barrett. According to reports, there are a total of eight videos taken of Andrews where seven of them were posted online. He was arrested not only because he posted the videos online but offered the videos for sale to the highest bidder.
Michael David Barrett allegedly contacted TMZ.com to sell the videos but TMZ.com contacted Erin Andrews’ attorney which resulted in the cease and desist order to anyone who would post the videos online. He was eventually arrested at O’ Hare International Airport on October 2nd.

Precious Hearts Romances Presents Ang Lalaking Nagmahal sa Akin is a comic-romance set in a luxury hotel where Flor, a chambermaid, falls for the hotel’s owner, Zephy. Though the story may seem simple, it takes different twists and turns when the two characters collide because one comes from a poor family and the other is born rich. In addition to their clashing personalities, other characters make it difficult for them to keep their thriving romance alive. But in the end, like most love stories do, theirs survive against all odds.
Flor (Toni Gonzaga) is a kind-hearted and hard working girl from the province who will work as a hotel chambermaid in the city to provide for her family.
Zephy (Derek Ramsay) is the handsome owner of the hotel where Flor works. He will learn from Flor that money can’t buy true love.

In fairness kay Kristine wala ako’ng problema sa kanya. She’s professional naman lalo na kapag nasa set na kami. Nagugulat nga ako dahil sa husay niya, e.”

Na-try ko na ‘yung wala kang tulog. Nung nakaraan nag-taping siya ng Banana Split kasi nga daily na sila. Tapos segue siya sa Lovers in Paris nang madaling araw. Kawawa rin ‘yung driver niya kasi nasalanta nga ng baha. Text sa akin ni Zanjoe lutang daw ang isip niya kasi pagod na raw siya.”
