Rio de Janeiro to host 2016 Summer Olympics! Brazil – here I come!

OLYMPICS 2016--

Among the final four standing cities, I really wanted Chicago or Rio de Janeiro to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.  When the announcement came today that Tokyo and Chicago were out – I was a bit excited to Rio de Janeiro.

Well – CONGRATULATIONS!!!  The IOC (International  Olympic Comittee) chose Rio de Janeiro as the city that will host the 2016 Summer Olympics!

A crowd of about 50,000 people in Copacabana Beach awaiting the results cheered when the announcement was made.  It is a “Carnival-like” festival as it stands right now and police say that the crowd could count up to 100,000 well into the evening…

See you all in  Brazil!!  Obrigado!!!

2016 Olympics Announcement – Chicago and Tokyo OUT.

OLYMPICS 2016--

Not even the presence of President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey can convince the IOC that Chicago is the PLACE for the 2106 Summer Olympics. It was the first to be eliminated in the final four cities vying for the coveted 2016 Summer Olympics. Only two remain – - Madrid and Rio de Janeiro… which one will it be?

Please be Rio de Janeiro… please….. :)

Richard Gutierrez to his detractors: ‘I feel bad for those people na nag-iimbento’

Pinasalamatan ni Richard Gutierrez ang kanyang mga magulang for allowing him na tulungan ang co-star niya na si Cristine Reyes at suungin ang napakalaking baha sa Marikina City. “Ah, after the rescue nag-shut-off ako. Matagal bago ako nakatulog. Maraming flashes na pumapasok sa isip ko. Pero nagpapasalamat ako sa parents ko na nagtiwala sila sa akin. Lumakas ang loob ko dahil naniwala sila na kaya ko,” pahayag ni Richard.

Fame Kills Concert Tour of Lady Gaga and Kanye West Canceled

Live Nation, the promoter of the tour dubbed as “Fame Kills” has announced that the highly-anticipated concert tour of Lady Gaga and Kanye West has been canceled. The scheduled kick-off of the tour is on November 10th.

This came after the infamous “mic-grabbing” persona he displayed during the VMA awards as Taylor Swift was giving her acceptance speech. The Grammy Award-winning Kanye received a lot of negative publicity not only from people but fellow celebrities alike when he took away the spotlight from Taylor’s first and historic win.

After the much-troubling event, Kanye appeared on the Jay Leno show. He was asked by host Jay Leno, “What do you think your mom would say about this?” (Kanye’s mother passed away back in 2007 whom he had a very close relationship with).

“So many celebrities, they never take the time off,” he said. “I’ve never taken the time off to really — you know, just music after music and tour after tour. I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt. My dream of what awards shows are supposed to be, ’cause, and I don’t try to justify it because I was just in the wrong. That’s period. But I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyze how I’m going to make it through the rest of this life, how I’m going to improve.”

Live Nation didn’t provide any explanation as to why the tour was canceled.

The case of the stolen identity of Jackie Bermejo

identity_theft

Alright. It’s time to clear the air. Jackie (Jacque) Bermejo is a victim. We all (should) know that by now.  It is an act of a despicable identity theft that has rocked Jackie’s world to unprecedented proportions. One could just imagine how devastating it is for an innocent victim who fell prey to someone’s maliscious intent to tarnish her name. It must have been a nightmare for her waking up one morning to find out her name and her photo has been plastered all over the worldwide web with negative comments and hatred from her own countrymen to say the least. It may have been very terrifying for her to walk the streets alone and be recognized as the “alleged Filipina who made a harsh comment” about the flood that wreaked havoc in the lives of many Filipino citizens. I cannot even fathom the fear that she had felt.

Michael Jackson was healthy – AP News

281x211

I read that the autopsy results showed Michael Jackson to be in good health overall at the time of his death. He did have some minor issues like arthritis on his lower back, plaque in his arteries but nothing major to cause such a sudden death.

Here are some of the findings from the Los Angeles County coroner’s autopsy of Michael Jackson:

  1. He was 5-foot-9 and weighed 136 pounds.
  2. There were dark tattoos on his eyebrows and around his eyes, a pink tattoo around his lips and what appeared to be a dark tattoo on the front of his scalp.
  3. He was balding and suffered from a skin disease that reduced pigment and left patches of white skin.
  4. Osteoarthritis was visible in the lower spine and some fingers.
  5. He had multiple scars around his body, including behind his ears, along one shoulder, at the base of his neck and near his navel.
  6. His heart was strong but his lungs were inflamed. Other organs appeared normal.
  7. The anesthetic propofol, four other sedatives, the pain killer Lidocaine and a resuscitative drug were found in Jackson’s system. His stomach had no discernible pills.
  8. No illegal drugs or alcohol were detected.
  9. The manner of death was ruled a homicide based, in part, on the propofol being administered in a non-hospital setting without any appropriate medical need.
  10. Consistent with CPR attempts, Jackson had a bruised chest and his sternum and several ribs were fractured.- Source

Will Barack Obama succeed in campaigning for Chicago to host 2016 Olympics

OLYMPICS 2016--

Heavy hitter Chicagoans  such as Oprah Winfrey, First Lady Michelle Obama and now, President Barack Obama traveled to Copenhagen and are pushing for Chicago to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.  It will be exciting to find out how this will all resolve as we are in competition with other heavy hitters.  Included in the countries vying for the high-profile host of the 2016 Olympics are Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) , Japan (Tokyo)  and Spain (Madrid).

The Prime Minister of Japan Yukio Hatoyama and his wife also traveled to Copenhagen to make their final push to be able to host the 2016 Olympics in Tokyo.    I  also understand that the King of Spain will make his final push as well.    Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil also wants to make sure that Rio de Janeiro wins the bid and he will be traveling to Copenhagen to do just that.

Read the final four cities competing for the win here.

I am telling you, these are high-profile individuals and convincing the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to choose their city is going to be tough.  I wouldn’t want to be a member of the IOC at this time.. but then again, why not?  You get to meet Presidents and Kings …

I am hoping that the IOC chooses Chicago but I’m a bit biased.  I could be happy with either Rio de Janeiro or Chicago.   Chicago because it’s close to home.. Rio de Janeiro because I love Brazil..  Madrid would be too expensive.. and Tokyo would be too far to travel… for me… :)

Well, the announcement is supposed to come out tomorrow and I read the the IOC is agonizing in making the decision (who wouldn’t be?).

We’ll see what happens….  do you think President Obama can convice the IOC?
