Robin Padilla says BB Gandanghari is the top fashionista on his list
Walking the ramp for Lee’s Make History fashion show last October 22 was actually a promise of things to come. Five days later, Robin Padilla signed his contract with Jag—sister company of Lee—to launch the brand’s back-to-basics campaign.
He said, “Sabi nga ng nanay ko, nung pinanganak daw ako, naka-maong ako, e. Talagang ako’y si mister maong nung araw pa. Nag-uumpisa pa lang ako sa pelikulang Pilipino, maong na. Kaya ano rin ito, isang sagot din sa mga panalangin natin.”
The action star was clad in a white shirt, jeans, a pair of cowboy boots, and a beret.
When asked if he has a stylist, he replied, “Ako lang ito.”
And when we brought up the word “fashion,” he quickly said, “wala akong ano diyan…”
But the former Bad Boy of the Philippine movies already made himself a fashion icon in the ’90s. Remember how he started the craze for bandana and fatigue jackets? Robin also revived the skinhead look for guys.
He smiled at the recollection, saying that his only intent then was to create a distinct mark for his bad-boy image. Fashion didn’t have anything to do with it.
Even the “pulseras galing sa Iran” he was wearing that day was inspired by the Greek hero Achilles, whom he described as “the greatest warrior [that] ever lived.”
“Pag sinusuot ko ito, parang ang sarap ng pakiramdam. Ginawa ko na lang siyang fashion statement. Magandang isama sa T-shirt. Imbes na kung anu-anong burloloy, amulet din,” he explained.
Binoe (his nickname) stressed that body influences his sense of fashion.
“Wala talaga akong ano diyan. Wala akong alam na sikat sa ganyan. Wala talaga, e. Sinasabi lang sa akin na, ‘O, panoorin mo lagi si ano, si ganito, si ganun…Minsan, hindi ko naman nagagawa, e. Yung sa damit, wala talaga. Minsan sabi nila, manood daw ako ng fashion channel,” the freelance actor said.
And who among the local celebrities would he consider a fashionista?
He dropped only one name: BB Gandanghari.
But he quickly clarified, “Hindi na kami nagpapakialamanan sa damit, lalo na ngayon.”
He explained, “Ibig ko sabihin, magkaiba talaga yung ano namin, style. Pero minsan, nag-guest yata ako nun sa Startalk, binihisan niya kami ng mga damit niya, yun…Nangyari na yun, pero hindi naman…Basta, iba talaga. Iba, iba, kahit na nung si Rustom pa siya, kahit na ngayon, hindi ko puwedeng sabihin na susundin ko lahat yung [style niya.]. Kasi minsan, bading yung style ng boots niya, e. Iba, iba. Yung belt niya, malaki nga, pero ang kintab! Iba talaga.”
JAG AND LIWANAG. At present, the brand’s marketing team is working on the concept. Soon Robin’s billboard will be all over the Philippines.
Jag’s Vice President for Finance Ranny Sanchez said, “We’re back to basics, and we chose Robin because we want [to push] fashion without inserting much effort. Hindi mo kailangang bihisan ng matindi, sexy na siya, that’s Robin.”
Sanchez also mentioned that the deal was about three months in the making, and its socio-civic component became the most compelling factor for Robin to accept the offer.
Robin related, “Bago pa nagkatuluyan sa Jag, e, magkasundo na kami sa usapin ng kawanggawa. Pangalawa na lang itong nagkapirmahan. Kasi bilang isa siyang negosyante, ako naman ay isang artista, parang naging parte na lang ito. Pero ang importante po sa amin ay yung makatulong kami.”
That same day, Jag donated several boxes of Jag jeans and shirts for Liwanag Kapayapaan Foundation, Inc., which was put up by the action star in 2007.
The action star continued, “Ang Liwanag po ay hindi siya nawawalan ng programa. Sa ngayon po, ang amin pong pinagkakaabalahan ay yung pagtuturo ng TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) ng kabuhayan sa mga nasalanta po ng nakaraang bagyo. Kasi, naniniwala kami sa solusyon.
“Tama [na] bigyan natin sila ng pangsamantalang lunas pero dapat binibigyan natin sila ng preparasyon, solusyon talaga sa problema. Ito po makakatulong po ito sa kanila, kasi siyempre, pag nakatapos na sila sa TESDA, mag-a-apply na ‘yan ng trabaho. Napakagandang meron kang maisusuot na presentable [kapag] mag-a-apply ka ng trabaho. Napakalaking bagay po nito.
Liwanag put up a pre-school center for kids, but in 2005, a local official filed a complaint against Robin for building the school near his house on Maple St., Barangay West Fairview, Quezon City, without a building permit. To date, the issue has not been resolved.
Binoe said, “Hindi kami ma-approve-approve ng DepEd (Department of Education) hangga’t hindi na-so-solve…hanggang hindi nabibigyan ng solusyon ang aming problema.”
Back to his endorsement, we asked the Jag executive about Robin’s talent fee. He said he’s not authorized to disclose, but he vaguely described the amount as “cheap and kind of substantial.”
Robin remarked, his eyes smiling, “Sabi ko nga, e, si Mr. Wilfred [owner], e, mahilig sa kawanggawa. Kasama na po yung talent fee ko doon, mapagkawanggawa talaga.”

A multitude of teenagers have volunteered to take a cart to slum and remote areas filled with books and teaching materials where they go and teach children.
Efren has received many awards in the past for his passion and his dedication to making a difference. He has another chance to tell the world that BIG things sometimes come in SMALL packages.

Levi Johnston to be honored at NY Porn Awards
Oh what a difference Playgirl makes! Ha! There is word that the father of Sarah Palin’s grandson from her daughter Bristol is set to receive an honorary award from Fleshbot for the Crossover Star prize when the Fleshbot Awards to be held at the Big Apple.
According to New York Post, Levi Johnston, who have since been very outspoken about the Sarah Palin will be honored for having agreed to pose nude for Playgirl. The shoot is supposed to be happening mid-November and should be out before the end of the year.
Included in the list of awardees are “Obama Girl” Amber Lee Ettinger, Belladona and Ryan Kelly.

Who says wishes don’t come true anymore? Don’t believe it! It just happened to Ellen Degeneres. She started an “O, Yes We Can” campaign to get on the cover of Oprah’s O Magazine and her wish was granted.
Oprah Winfrey believes in living your full potential and she mentioned it during the photo shoot according to E!. She said:
“When Ellen arrived at the photo shoot for our cover, I didn’t have to ask her how she was doing: it showed on her face,” says Oprah. “She radiated the kind of peace and satisfaction that comes only when you’re living at your highest potential.”
But the report said that she’s the only second human being who has made it on the cover of O Magazine (Oprah is the sole person to always grace the cover of her magazine) beside Michelle Obama. I thought Oprah’s hunky interior designer Nate Berkus made it too? But I guess there is a difference between “O At Home” and “O Magazine”. Oh well.
What other magazine cover can get this good? You have two of the most successful talk show hosts in the country who are living their lives to its fullest (bank account included) and sharing their joys and successes with one another. Huh?

It took a while before I joined the craze. I had so many gifts that I have ignored because I didn’t want to become addicted to any online game. I had an ex-boyfriend who could play WoW (World of Warcraft) for twenty-four hours straight. I didn’t want to be that. I had more things to do with my life than sit and play an online game.
Not until I started playing Farmville. I noticed that my whole family has been playing the game for a while. Even my 5-year old niece is in it. So I said, why not.
Have been playing now for about two months and boy, I am addicted. Not because I love the game so much but because every time I visit any of my neighbors, I am envious of their large mansions and all the things they have in their farm. And I thought, “If they can do it, I can do it too!”

Another event called “Defenders of the Family” has removed her from her speaking engagement which according to TMZ.com was still a go until yesterday (the event is today).
What a difference a day make. I think it’s downhill from here.

Wala halos ideya ang karamihan sa mga inimbitahang press people ng Bench kung sino ang celebrity endorser ng bago nilang perfume line, ang Desired. Kagabi lamang na-reveal kung sino ang endorser sa pamamagitan ng isang intimate fashion show na ginanap sa 2nd floor ng Edsa Shangri-La Hotel.
Ang endorser ng Desired ay walang iba kundi si Dingdong Dantes.

Well mga ka-chika! As promised, heto na ang mga piktyurakas na kuha ng isang blogger din. I couldn’t carry my SLR dahil di babagay sa outfut ng ditse. And it took a while for the photographer to furnish me with the pics.
Although it was not as fun as the previous Henri David Halloween Balls that we’ve attended, it was still a fun night. Mukhang suko na yata si Chuva sa pag da-dragon…hahaha! Di ko na kayang mag-heels. Ilang beses akong nag-paa sa ball dahil halos kalyuhin ako sa sakit ng paa ko… bwahahahaa!
In fairness, maganda ang dating ng mga costumes this year kaya I will label each of the photos para malaman ninyo ang dating.
Chuva’s at the Movies – Review: In My Life
Okay, I must tell you that ever since I watched John Lloyd Cruz in One More Chance – I fell in love with him instantly. He’s one of the actors who can make me cry and I don’t mean just tears flowing down my cheeks – - Hagulgol to the maximum level.
I became super excited when I heard about the making of a gay-themed movie called In My Life. Of course, having John Lloyd Cruz in the film was already a plus for me but having the Star for All Seasons, Ms. Vilma Santos is even a better treat.
The DVD has finally come out and I couldn’t wait to get a hold of it. When I finally watched the film last night (with red wine on hand for total immersion!! hahaha!) I was actually impressed. The movie was all that I expected and more.
Remember how I complain all the time when gay-themed movies are produced from the Philippines? It’s always about go-go boys, macho dancers, and prostitutes. That is not all we can show. When Pusong Mamon came out – I was equally impressed because it is a film that showed a different view of what gay life is all about.
I couldn’t believe the “shocker” in the film as well which took me by surprise. I couldn’t tell you because it will be a spoiler if I did. You just have to watch the film.
John Lloyd, Vilma and including Luis Manzano did a wonderful job in portraying their roles. I was mostly in tears during scenes between John Lloyd and Vilma Santos. I did sense a bit of uncomfortable acting between Luis and his mom, Vilma. But their scenes turned okay as well.
The funniest part was Vilma’s trip to Harlem. You’ll understand when you see the film. It’s not for me to tell you.
Overall, I would rate the film and give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Fabulous! And I have never scene a better shot of New York from a Philippine movie. The excellent cinematography must be commended as well. There is no wonder why the movie became such a hit.

Aga Muhlach was taken aback when the press told him that he is Kris Aquino’s choice to play Ninoy Aquino in an autobiographical movie Kris and her family are working on. “Ako? Wow. Siyempre nakakagulat yun, natutuwa ako pero sana lang sana magampanan ko ng mabuti ‘yun. That’s really so nice of her even just to consider me. Thank you. Let’s do it, she’s saying nga na pareho ‘yung experiences namin about sa moms namin and we both know how it feels (losing a parent). Siya bahala. Game ako,” Aga said.

ABS-CBN launched its Christmas campaign Parol ni Bro yesterday, November 4, with a lantern lighting ceremony led by the cast of May Bukas Pa, ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio, and ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III. The network paid tribute to the Filipino values of hope and unity by lighting an 18-foot lantern installed atop ABS-CBN’S offices, the Parol ni Bro, in reference to how the character of Santino calls God in the series May Bukas Pa.

Yeng Constantino admits being single sometimes gets to her
ABS-CBN.com caught up with Yeng Constantino at the rehearsals for the Star Magic Concert to be staged this November 13 at the Araneta Coliseum. The Pinoy Dream Academy’s first Grand Star Dreamer was sporting a new hairdo which prompted questions as to whether or not she had someone in mind who inspired the change. “Wala namang taong dahilan kung bakit ako blooming. Sobrang happy ko lang siguro sa buhay ko ngayon kaya napapansin niyong blooming ako. Conscious na rin ako sa look ko ngayon. Nararamdaman ko na kasing nagdadalaga na ako, kahit na dalaga naman na talaga ako, ha ha ha! Siyempre hindi na rin pwede ‘yung dati na haharap ako sa mga tao na magulo ang buhok ko. A victim of domestic violence, Rihanna kept silent about the events that occurred during that night at the Grammy’s when she was assaulted by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. The photo that spread through the internet like wildfire is a testimony to the violence that many women experience but do not speak of.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Rihanna appeared to be stronger and more confident and that she has taken the bull by the horns to face the public and speak of her experience.
“Come out of the situation and look at it for what it really is,” she advised during an interview on “Good Morning America” on Thursday. “Love is so blind.”
Similar to child abuse, or any type of abuse – it is still often (unfortunately) hidden behind the walls of the home. If children are taught to speak out against any type of abuse and if they learn that when these things happen, they need to talk about it and tell someone – we could save a lot of lives.

Arnel Pineda flatly denies rumors that he is leaving Journey
