I am NOT Tiger Woods. Will Tiger remain a role model after the scandal?
Those were the famous words for a Nike promotion. Who wouldn’t want to be Tiger Woods? He was very focused, well-liked, an excellent golfer, multi-cultural background, and a family man. That was until the fateful day when his car backed up into a fire hydrant and then hit a tree. Nobody expected that the tragedy will expose some of the most intriguing details of Tiger Woods’ private life.
The voicemail released to US magazine was allegedly left by Tiger on Jamie Grubbs cellphone asking her to remove her name from her voicemail in case his wife called the number back. Not only that, now there are reports that text messages include very sexual messages. She claims to have had 20 sexual encounters with Woods and has over 300 text messages, some of which are very intimate.
Here are a few:
“I will wear you out…when was the last time you got *&^%$#?”
In another of Tiger’s sexting messages, he says:
“Send me something very naughty. Go to the bathroom and take a picture.”
So far, his endorsers are supporting him. With a reported $100 million dollars a year income from advertisers – losing some of the advertisers won’t hurt as much probably. But losing all would really suck if the reports continue.
One website for Role Models that include Tiger Woods received a surge of comments and emails asking the website owner to remove Tiger Woods from the list. The publisher refused stating that he is neither the judge or jury for Tiger (I actually applaud him for doing that!). The editor of the website had to post a comment to stop the hate mails and comments:
While I appreciate all of the emails and phone calls I have received regarding the recent news concerning the Tiger Woods affair and the Tiger Woods crash, I will not act as his judge or jury in this matter. It is entirely up to the reader to determine whether Tiger Woods is a role model or if parts of his life have served as a role model. As it stands, the only thing he has really been accused of properly is careless driving. The news surrounding the supposed affair were produced by a tabloid ( we all know how reliable they are) and the circumstances surrounding the accident may never really be known. I am assuming that all of the dads out there and all of the moms would hope that their kids would consider themselves role models for their children but at the same time would guess that none of us really consider ourselves perfect. Let’s cut this guy some slack and let the details all come out before we judge him if we choose to judge him at all. I seem to recall a story about a president and a certain intern but would guess that there are probably a few of you out there that still consider him a role model.
Here’s his Nike Commercial, “I am Tiger Woods.”
