Imagine taking down the powers of the vampire saga, New Moon. “The Blind Side” rose to first place at the box office this weekend with $20.4 million, according to early estimates by Hollywood.com Box Office. Sandra Bullock is probably laughing her way to the bank right now.
It was second place behind “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” the past two weeks, but “Blind Side” proved that word-of-mouth about the film upstaged The Twiglight Saga. So far, the film has reached a cumulative gross of $129.3 million and has been rated A+ by CinemaScore.
When I watched “New Moon”, I didn’t think it lived up to the hype but with its many followers, I thought it may continue yet it slid 63 percent in its third weekend, draining $15.7 million for second place according to CNN.com. Still, that puts the teenage romantic fantasy at $255.6 million, with an even scarier worldwide total of $570.1 million.
In third place with $9.7 million was the new drama “Brothers,” starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Natalie Portman which I would like to see. I think that Toby Maguire’s performance is Oscar material but it’s still too early to tell.
