For Anne Curtis, 2009 has been full of blessings and there’s nothing more to ask for. “Wala na akong iniisip pang hingin. Anne also got an unexpected surprise when world famous novelist Paolo Coelho sent her a message via Twitter, the micro-blogging site. The latest message sent by the author of The Alchemist reads, “You are great, I am still waiting for your two movies to arrive, I will send you DM (direct message) as soon as I finish it.” This message made a huge impact on Anne.

ABS-CBN.com conducted a poll on the biggest news that created the most buzz in 2009 and the Kapamilya online community voted the passing of former President Corazon Aquino as the biggest news of 2009 with 46% of votes. Mrs. Aquino died last August 1 after over a year of battling colon cancer. The woman hailed as Philippine’s mother of democracy left a nation in grief but revitalized the Filipino spirit. The government offered a state funeral for the former leader, but the Aquino family opted for a simpler wake and burial. But this did not prevent the millions of Filipinos from flocking to the Manila Cathedral for the public viewing. World leaders and international organizations also expressed their condolences to the Filipinos who seemed to have lost a mother. President Cory’s youngest child, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino expressed her deepest gratitude to everyone who showed their love for her mother. Kris’s brother, Senator Noynoy Aquino later announced his decision to run for the presidency in the 2010 national elections as his way of protecting and continuing his mother’s legacy of peace and progress.

During the She Said, He Said segment on Entertainment Live’s December 26 episode, Luis Manzano kept teasing Cristine Reyes who was defensive, albeit in a funny way, as she answered the issues involving the four men in her life. First on his list of questions was if there was any truth to the reports saying that she and ex-boyfriend Dennis Trillo had a serious talk about their controversial breakup several months ago. “Yes. Hindi na ako mag-elaborate. Bakit pa? Tapos na yun e. Pero nag-set talaga [kami ng date para magka-closure].” To which Dennis agreed in a separate interview, “Maipagmamalaki ko talaga na totoo yun. Kasi nga inayos namin bago mag-Pasko man lang. Para at least walang samaan ng loob, plantsado na lahat at mabura na lahat ng masasamang memories at maalala lang namin yung magandang pinagsamahan namin.”

Evicted Pinoy Big Brother Double Up housemate Carol Batay has been very honest about having “no boyfriend since birth.” Although she comes from a conservative Born Again Christian Chinese family, the 22-year-old teacher never had any hesitation in expressing her feelings inside the PBB house, especially in her admiration of the guy housemates. In an interview with ABS-CBN.com, Carol shared the qualities she loved about housemate Paul Jake Castillo. “Na-touch ako nung lumipat ako from House B papunta sa kanila sa House A. He was very gentleman to me. ‘Carol, upo ka.’ ‘Carol, here’s some food.’ Gusto ko ‘yung mga guys na sweet. Lagi rin niya akong kino-comfort. Also kasi may Chinese blood siya e type ko ‘yun.”
Kim Chiu on Gerald Anderson: ‘Siya ang best friend ko’
Kim Chiu shared how excited she is about how her fans will support her upcoming movie with Gerald Anderson, Paano Na Kaya, Star Cinema’s 2010 opener. “Basta tungkol ito sa magkaibigan. Iba yung storya sa lahat ng mga nagawa na namin ni Gerald. Kung sa Tayong Dalawa sobrang drama and nakakaiyak, ito nakaka-in love talaga at nakakakilig. Lahat ng mga magkakaibigan makaka-relate dito.”
Kim admitted that there is still a lot of things for fans to discover about their love team. “Masaya ako dahil kahit matagal na kaming magka-love team, marami pa rin bagong nangyayari at aabangan na mga challenging na storya at roles na pwede naming gampanan. Sobrang comfortable na ako kay Gerald na ka-work. Katulad ng sa pelikula namin na Paano Na Kaya. Sa lahat-lahat ng pinagsamahan namin at pinagdaanan namin ni Gerald, masasabi ko talaga na siya ang best friend ko.”
Kim also expressed her gratitude to fans who never fail to support her and Gerald. “Super mega todo salamat sa kanila dahil kahit mapa-good issue o bad issue man, lagi silang nandyan and sila ang nagre-react para sa amin. Pinagtatanggol nila kami, nire-rescue nila kami sa mga lumalait sa amin, sa mga umaaway sa amin. Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na may ganun kang fans na ipaglalaban ka. So thank you, thank you talaga sa kanila.”
She said she is also happy that she has a lot to be excited about at the start of 2010. “Sana maraming manood ng movie namin ni Gerald, at tsaka ng Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo (her teleserye with Gerald) malapit na rin ipalabas ‘yun. Magagaling at malalaking artista ang mga kasama namin dito kagaya nina Ms. Kris Aquino, Mr. Gabby Concepcion, ang Lola Gets namin sa Tayong Dalawa na si Ms. Gina Pareno. Sana mag-click sila, ‘yun lang ‘yung mga wish ko. Sana maging hit ‘yung mga projects namin.”
Meanwhile, Kim revealed that she does not plan her resolutions for the New Year. “Wala akong New Year’s resolution kasi hindi naman natutupad, e. Kaya wala na lang. Gusto ko magpataba kaso wala naman nangyayari so hayaan mo na,” Kim said, laughing.
Kris Aquino reveals that Kim Chiu was nervous during the first taping day of their soap
Working with Kris Aquino can be intimidating for any young star and Kim Chiu is no exemption. Apparently, the country’s most popular teen idol got nervous the first time she did a confrontation scene with Kris in the teleserye Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo. “First day namin sa set, she was shaking talaga kasi tinutulak-tulak niya ako sa isang scene. E dapat bratinella yung role niya. Kaya lang nung tinulak niya ako, kulang yung tulak so inacting ko na lang,” Kris revealed in an interview with ABS-CBN.com.
But Kris was also quick to clarify that it was no big deal since Kim was probably still adjusting to her rebellious character at that time. “Nahihiya siya sigurong itulak ako. Pero sabi ko, ‘Kim, next time if you really have to push me, just push me. It’s okay, I wouldn’t take offense. And wala ka pa atang 90 pounds.’ Pero dedma na no. Wala na yun sa akin. I love her. Magkasundo talaga kami,” she beamed.
The Queen of Talk also let us in on some of the twists in the story and why she enjoys working with Kim and Baby James on the set. “Kasi this is the cutest thing about the show ha—Kim, Albert (Martinez) and Baby James all have the same birthday, April 19. ‘Di ba ang cute? Kaya sabi ko kay Kim, ‘Kaya get along na get along tayo kasi kaugali mo si Baby James.’ Kasi si Baby James obsessed siya sa damit. Gusto niya naka-leather jacket siya and naka-hat palagi, yun talaga. So si Kim and ako naman, we can spend five hours talking about clothes. Tapos nahiya nga ako kasi ang dami niyang outfits na meron ako. Sabi ko, ‘My God, I am not dressing my age.’ Masyado atang pa-bagets ang outfits ko so kailangan baguhin ko,” she exclaimed.
Like a typical proud mom, Kris also boasted that Baby James already has lots of fans, as seen when he went onstage at the 2009 ABS-CBN Christmas Special at the Araneta Coliseum. A Michael Jackson fan, Baby James seemed like a natural-born performer for he had no qualms facing a huge crowd that night. “It was the cutest talaga kasi yung mga kapamilya fans who go to The Buzz every Sunday, kusa silang nagpagawa ng, ‘We love Baby James’ na banner. So kilig na kilig din si Baby James kasi he saw his picture. Yun talaga hindi mo kailangang pilitin kasi gusto niya talaga. At his age, he can moonwalk na. I’m not exaggerating. Gusto ko na kunan at ipadala kay Oprah or i-YouTube kasi kaya niya all the dance moves of Michael pati yung crotch-grabbing. Kaya sabi ko, ‘No no no honey, don’t do that.’ Pero obsessed siya talaga kay Michael. He learned it on his own through constant repetition. He watches and copies his moves. At ang favorite niya ngayon yung ‘Smooth Criminal.’ Sasabihin nun, ‘Mama I want yung okay okay.’ So ang galing,” she related.
Karylle says she enjoys her showbiz career and being single
People have taken notice how Karylle is looking more radiant and inspired nowadays. But when asked if she has found someone special to her, the 28-year-old actress shared that she’s still taking it easy when it comes to matters of the heart. “Okay naman ako. I am still single. May mga tao na malapit sa puso ko pero I am just getting to know people. Minsan may mga medyo nagugustuhan ako pero hindi naman talaga [natutuloy sa commitment or anything].” It’s not that she has grown wary of falling in love and getting hurt in the end but Karylle simply has other priorities in mind right now. “Siguro only time will tell especially now that I am trying to focus on my work,” she added.
The singer/actress was once romantically linked with Jericho Rosales whom she first worked with in I Love Betty La Fea followed by Dahil May Isang Ikaw (DMII). As to whether or not their relationship could develop into something romantic, Karylle replied, “Hindi ko alam. Parang wala. But we still go out,” she replied. When prodded about the other guys she’s dating right now, Karylle merely laughed and refused to elaborate about it. “Secret! Pero marami naman akong kaibigan, yung iba showbiz, yung iba hindi showbiz. Medyo dating ako ngayon, pero hindi ko ma-explain e. Hindi ko kasi masyadong nabibigyan ng panahon. Minsan nagkakataon lang na lumalabas ka pero hindi rin naman sadya, yung ganon.”
More than her love life, however, Karylle stressed that she’s really grateful for all the blessings she received this year. At the top of her list was the fact that she was able to improve her acting in dramas through her projects on ABS-CBN. “I am very, very happy with my showbiz career. Hindi ako pinabayaan ng ABS-CBN at napakaganda ng ginawa nila para sa akin kaya super thankful ako.” Even her mom ZsaZsa Padilla has given her words of praise for her performance in DMII. “I remember one time, I forced mom to watch one of the crucial episodes. Tapos tawag siya right after sabi niya ‘I’m so proud of you.’ Siyempre it’s always good to know that your parents approve of what you do. Mas nakaka-inspire na gawin mo yung best mo,” she related.
But for now, Karylle is looking forward to going back to the concert scene since she had spent most of her time acting these past few months. “Mami-miss ko yung soap pero nakaka-miss rin yung pagkanta. Actually nung ginawa ko yung DMII maraming concerts na hindi ko nagawa. Like, inaasam ko talaga mag-concert abroad. In February, I’m going to have my first US concert tour with Christian (Bautista) so I am excited. I’ll take advantage of this opportunity to promote my album lalo na nag-gold na siya. Basta yun, I am very happy na makakapag-show na ako. And hopefully may iba pang dumating na good projects next year,” she beamed.

Siyempre ang pag-graduate ko sa college. Hanggang ngayon feeling ko nasa cloud nine pa rin ako. ‘Yung diploma nakasabit sa bahay. Ito ‘yung kahit kailan hindi mawawala. I was able to get a good education and kahit wala na ako sa showbiz magagamit ko pa rin ‘yun. Sobrang proud sa akin ng parents ko at ng manager ko.

May kumalat na balita kasi na nagkaroon ng tampuhan sina Kris at James at umalis daw ng kanilang tahanan ang sikat na basketball player. Upang kumpirmahin ang balita, kinausap ang isang taong malapit kay Kris.
Ayon sa nakausap namin, totoong nagkaroon ng tampuhan ang mag-asawa noong umaga ng December 24. Totoo rin daw na umalis sa kanilang bahay si James, pero bumalik din ito kinagabihan pagkatapos nilang magkaayos ni Kris. Kaso lang, hindi na nakahabol si James sa noche buena ng pamilya Aquino sa Times Street.

Pope Benedict the XVI was knocked down to the ground as he walked through St. Peter’s Basilica for the annual Christmas Eve Mass when a woman crossed the barrier in an attempt of some kind which wasn’t clear. The Pope is fine and continued on to celebrate Christmas Eve mass.

Annina, Patrick say goodbye to housemates
Christmas finally arrived inside the Big Brother House. The housemates were asked to gather around the living room for them to be able to open their special Christmas presents. Although suprised, they were pleased to find out their gifts – ranging from polo shirts and dresses to make-up kits and chocolate – came from their families from the outside world. What was more was that Big Brother also made them listen to short phone patches from their loved ones. Even Annina got to listen to her mom all the way from Germany! “I don’t know how Big Brother reached her (Annina‘s mom),” she later said in the confession room. Like her, Jason got emotional upon hearing his mom’s voice. But without a doubt, both of them seemingly felt happy upon hearing their mothers’ voices.
Okay – - now that it’s Christmas.. time to look forward to Valentine’s Day
A star-studded film will be released next year which includes A-Listers from Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, The two Taylors – Lautner and Swift, Queen Latifah, Patrick Dempsey, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba and Biel… Shirley Mclaine… and blah blah blah…
To those hopefuls out there who’s still looking for or who has given up on love.. this is a cute movie to watch. If you can still watch Pretty Woman today for the nth time and still giggle and feel those butterflies in your stomach…. let’s hope this is just as good..

Big Brother’s Superb Surprises
This year’s Christmas is one of the most trying moments the housemates have to go to through in their stay in the Big Brother House. But it is probably the hardest on Paul Jake, whose birthday falls just three days before Christmas. This is why Big Brother made a special exception for him and suprised him with a 100-second visit from his girlfriend Denise whom he says he misses so much all the time.
The short but very sweet reunion happened inside the confession room. After Denise took off Paul Jake‘s blindfold, he couldn’t contain his emotions as soon as he saw his girlfriend. They cried as they embraced and kissed each other and when the 100 seconds finished, Denise left him with encouraging words. “I really want you to finish it (the game),” she said. “Everybody wants you to finish it.” Then, Big Brother asked Paul Jake how he felt after seeing Denise and he told him it was the “perfect gift,” exactly the one he wanted for this Christmas and his birthday.
However, there was one other surprise gift Big Brother wanted to give not only to Paul Jake but to the rest of the housemates: Super G, a former housemate in Big Brother Germany! In preparation for it, Big Brother asked former housemate Rob to teach Kath and Tibo several useful German words and phrases. Add to that, the housemates played a game in twos in which they had to gobble up German sausages, which were hung with a string through the ceiling, blindfolded.
The other suprise gift was finally given to the housemates on the night of Paul Jake’s Playboy-themed birthday party. Dressed in a pink Santa-inspired matching outfit, Annina Ucatis, more known as Super G, came out from a big Christmas present and suprised everybody in the living room. Naturally, the housemates were shocked with the arrival of the guest housemate who was to stay with them for Christmas. More so, they were obviously astonished with Annina’s cup size, which is a 34G hence the nick name Super G. However, like the way most Filipinos are, they recovered quickly and introduced themselves to Annina and showed her around the house.
Another huge surprise from Big Brother came as a special task for the housemates. This time, the suprise was for the attendees of the next dawn’s Misa de Gallo. The housemates prepared breakfast for them, in the form of Eden Cheese-filled sandwiches coated in shredded cornflakes. These were served by formerly evicted housemates after the mass. Well, look’s like Christmas is going to be more fun than expected so stay tuned and spend it with the housemates!

Chuva at the Movies: ‘Single Man’ highlights gay, family issues
Merry Christmas to everyone! We’re literally counting the hours before it’s Christmas. In some parts of the world, many are already gathered at the dinner table.
Chuva is spending her time with friends on Christmas eve this year. Then, I will probably watch this movie. This is the directorial debut of designer Tom Ford about a gay man in the 60s whose lover of 16 years died in a car accident. This movie raises the question about gay marriage and equality.
I think it’s an interesting movie to see simply because it is about human rights. The setting may be in the 60s but it is apparent that it is still applicable today. The film received several Golden Globe nominations and Colin Firth won top prize for best actor at the Venice Film Festival.
With Proposition 8 in California, same-sex marriage in Washington, DC, New York’s bill being defeated and a similar bill in New Jersey.
“I think the film shows the price people pay for silence and it shows the common humanity and invites people to ask themselves: How would I feel if I couldn’t acknowledge the love of my life?”

Prince William slept on the streets of London to create awareness
Princess Diana raised two very find kids. Prince Harry (my first love) does his share by volunteering for the armed services and helping out kids in Africa. Prince William most recently, slept on the streets of London to create awareness for Centrepoint, a charity for the homeless.
“I cannot, after one night, even being to imagine what it must be like to sleep rough on London’s streets night after night. I hope that by deepening my understanding of the issue, I can help do my bit to help the most vulnerable on our streets.”
Seyi Obakin, head of the homeless charity Centrepoint who joined William on the challenge, said later sleeping rough is “scary”.
“The hairiest moment was when we were almost run over by a road sweeper which didn’t see our small group huddled together, which shows how vulnerable rough sleepers are,” Obakin said.
According to IBN, Prince William was inspired by his mother when Princess Diana was the a patron for Centrepoint and regularly brought Princes William and Harry during her visits to the homeless.
