Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow on Groundhog Day 2011?

I guess there are many reasons why I moved back from the West Coast to the East Coast. I enjoyed my stay in Los Angeles and I will never forget the memories that I had while I was there but there were a few things that I missed about the east coast while living west and one of them is Groundhog Day when Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction about winter on February 2nd.
It’s a long-standing tradition and mostly just for fun. According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly “see its shadow” and retreat back into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks. As far as I can remember, each time February 2nd – Punxsuwtawney Phil has always seen his shadow and it has always meant six more weeks of winter.
That is part of the fun and Groundhog Day has expanded beyond Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Other states have created events for Groundhog Day to make the event more exciting. The event has been celebrated since 1887. Imagine that!
With the weather prediction for tomorrow which expects snow of up to 7-inches – many thought that the event will be canceled. However, it has been confirmed that Groundhog Day will be celebrated in Punxsutawney tomorrow because it is its 125th Anniversary and fans have already arrived (all hotels are booked) and ready to celebrate the daybreak celebration tomorrow.
To you all! Happy Groundhog Day!!
