Wikipedia worldwide blackout to occur Jan 18, 2012 @ 5:00 UTC in Protest of SOPA and PIPA
If you visit Wikipedia’s main page today, you will see a glaring warning about a blackout that is to occur in less that 16 hours. Wikipedia will be taken off line for 24 hours.
Here’s what they published on Monday, January 16th:
Today, the Wikipedia community announced its decision to black out the English-language Wikipedia for 24 hours, worldwide, beginning at 05:00 UTC on Wednesday, January 18 (you can read the statement from the Wikimedia Foundation here). The blackout is a protest against proposed legislation in the United States—the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate—that, if passed, would seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia.
This will be the first time the English Wikipedia has ever staged a public protest of this nature, and it’s a decision that wasn’t lightly made. Here’s how it’s been described by the three Wikipedia administrators who formally facilitated the community’s discussion. - It is the opinion of the English Wikipedia community that both of these bills, if passed, would be devastating to the free and open web.

- Over the course of the past 72 hours, over 1800 Wikipedians have joined together to discuss proposed actions that the community might wish to take against SOPA and PIPA. This is by far the largest level of participation in a community discussion ever seen on Wikipedia, which illustrates the level of concern that Wikipedians feel about this proposed legislation. The overwhelming majority of participants support community action to encourage greater public action in response to these two bills. Of the proposals considered by Wikipedians, those that would result in a “blackout” of the English Wikipedia, in concert with similar blackouts on other websites opposed to SOPA and PIPA, received the strongest support.

- On careful review of this discussion, the closing administrators note the broad-based support for action from Wikipedians around the world, not just from within the United States. The primary objection to a global blackout came from those who preferred that the blackout be limited to readers from the United States, with the rest of the world seeing a simple banner notice instead. We also noted that roughly 55% of those supporting a blackout preferred that it be a global one, with many pointing to concerns about similar legislation in other nations.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! I Have A Dream Speech (VIDEO) in FULL TEXT
I have always loved great speeches. What’s better is a great speech delivered by a great man. One of the speeches that I have always loved is Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 speech which is now known as the I Have A Dream Speech.
Since we are celebrating MLK day here in the US today, January 16th, I thought it would be best to share the speech with all of you. I have also inserted the video of his amazing speech below.

I particularly watched the Golden Globes last night because of Ricky Gervais. I just wanted to see how he really is at insulting the guests since I missed his performance last time. I really didn’t think it was very funny. Some were and I thought Madonna got him back really good. All-in-all though, I think he was just okay.

I am very pleased to have been granted an interview with Reyna Elena of Reynaelena.com. If you are familiar with this blog at all, and if you’re a regular listener to our podcast, you may have heard that he’s one of the reasons why I am a blogger. I have been trying to get him to guest on my podcast but have failed to do so due to our conflicting schedules.
Reyna Elena (known as well as @la_kapitana on) Twitter has finally given us the royal interview. Our stories go back to the very beginning when we all started blogging. Pardon the noise and the barking dogs in the background. I decided to leave the interview as raw as it is to give you the experience as well.

American Idol’s Season 7 contestant David Archuleta is back in the Philippines for the 4th time. He was greeted by fans after his plane touched down at NAIA on January 13th at 5:30 a.m.
It has also been confirmed that David will be doing a soap for TV5 with homegrown Kapatid stars Jasmin Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero. entitled Nandito Ako
About acting, he says:
“I’ve always been nervous about things when it comes to acting…
“But I just thought because…the Filipino fans are very supportive and very warm it kind of made it easier to [say], ‘Okay, let’s try it.’”

Megastar Sharon Cuneta: “If the station thinks I’m worth it, who am I to disagree?
The media was in a buzz when Megastar Sharon Cuneta transferred from her home network of 23 years (ABS-CBN) to TV5. Many believed that the offer had to be soooo significant for her to turn down. Numbers popped up on blogs and celebrity sites saying that she was offered P 1B – P 2B pesos to ink the deal.
When asked during a press conference at Discovery Suites yesterday for her upcoming concert with the concert king, Martin Nievera, January 11th, she didn’t answer the question directly but rather phrased it in a way that it is a 5-year contract and regardless of the fee, if you divide it by 5 years, it still comes almost up to the fee that she was earning. To her, it wasn’t the money that became the priority – she said that it was “change” that convinced her to move over.
Understandably, networks evolve and there are new talents and artists who come in. She felt like maybe, she’s not fit to be in that mold anymore.
Whatever the talent fee was, she said that she is starting to feel the pressure to deliver and yet she also believes that the price was right and she will do whatever she can to please the public who expects from her.
When asked about the much-publicized KC Concepcion – Piolo Pascual split, she said that she loved Piolo. However, “Napaka-ipokrita ko naman ‘pag sinabi kong ganun ko pa rin siya kamahal o ganun pa rin siya kaimportante sa akin…”, she quipped. And to everyone’s surprise, she said that Piolo never showed himself to Sharon since KC and Piolo started their relationship until it ended. WOW!
Good for her! I think it’s a great move and we wish her more power and blessings in the future.
I just lost my crush for Dean Cain. Loved him before I found out.
I loved him on Broken Hearts Club – I just actually watched it again last month while I was resting after my appendectomy and I fell in love with Dean Cain again. I know it’s just a role but he was just super sexy playing a gay guy (although his role on the film was a player, I still had a crush on him).
Now that CNN published a list of celebrities who support GOP candidates, I was turned off. I can’t believe he supported Sen. John McCain back in 2008 and back in September, he said that he liked Rick Perry (who’s probably not going to get the nomination anyway).
Well, I guess he’s entitled to his opinion and whom he would like to support but – - I am moving on now…

Nick Cannon Kidney Failure: Hospitalized in Colorado for Recovery
Mariah Carey tweeted the following to her Twitter followers where she attached the above photo:
“Please pray for Nick as he’s fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure. #mybraveman,”
That sent twitter and google into a frenzy. Nick Cannon is the singer’s husband and while vacationing in Colorado, reports say that Nick was rushed to the hospital because of kidney failure.
We’re hoping for Nick’s full and speedy recovery! All the best wishes to Mariah Carey and the twins!!
People can still make good decisions after a bad decision. Pia Guanio announces she’s five weeks pregnant
Good things can still happen to people.
It was announced that Pia Guanio (who was a former girlfriend to Bossing Vic Sotto) is pregnant. She announced it through her noontime variety show, Eat Bulaga! She is five weeks pregnant from hubby Steve Mago whom she married back in October of last year after a brief engagement.
The host is glowing and gleaming with pride with her announcement.
I am surely not saying that her relationship with Vic Sotto was bad. I just think that for a girl as pretty as her and as promising, she could definitely find someone her age and with a lot more to offer than simply a good lifestyle – which she did and I say, good for her.
And since the breakup between Pia and Vic was over a year ago, it shouldn’t really even be an issue – - just saying.

Ramgen Revilla and Janelle Mahanan Sex Video Scandal Download
It is appalling to me that someone who recently died will be disrespected in a way that Ramgen Revilla has been treated with the release of the alleged “sex video” of him and then girlfriend Janelle Manahan. What is more worrisome is that people have been searching the web for it like you would not believe.
When I look at my blog statistics for searches, many users have been led to my blog with searches like “Ramgen Janelle Sex Video Download Link” or”Link to Download Ramgen Revilla and Janelle Manahan Sex Video” or “Youtube Ramgen Revilla Janelle Manahan Naked”.
If you take notice, many blogs which normally are not on the top 10 of TopBlogs.ph, are now on the top 10 with a surge in traffic and that is because of their headlines featuring a download of the video.
It’s a shame – - but I guess that’s how the world rolls. And no, I don’t have the link and even if I did, out of respect – I will not provide it.

International singing sensation, Charice is on the cover of Preview Magazine for their January 2012 issue.
The singer talks about her plans for 2012 including her local and international gigs.
With all the issue surrounding the “photoshopped” cover, nothing can stop Charice from moving forward in 2012. To prove that “very minimal” use of photoshop as admitted by the spokesperson for Preview Magazine, here’s the behind the scenes video:
Vice Ganda vs. Ai-Ai delas Alas. The “snubbing” issue raised by many. Who’s telling the truth?
Did any of you see Vice Ganda‘s interview with Boy Abunda on The Buzz last Sunday?
I was still at home sick and I had the show on DVR so I watched it last night. I have always liked Vice Ganda and I believe that he really as a good heart. Boy Abunda’s questions allowed Vice to show his personal side. What was most touching was about Vice’s grandmother Lola Rosita whom the actor/host/performer referred to as “not doing very well” at the time of the interview. (His grandmother passed away on New Year’s Day 2012 – the show was taped days before that).
On the interview, the actor was teary-eyed when spoke the words below:
“Bumulong ako sa kanya, bago ako umalis (abroad) nun. …Ang hiling ko lang ay hintayin mo lang ako kasi may obligasyon pa ako sa ibang tao. Hinintay naman niya ako. Pagdating ko sabi ko sa kanya OK na ako, pwede ka ng umalis. Masyado kasing selfish kung sasabihin ko na huwag ka munang aalis at hindi ko kakayanin eh nakikita ko nahihirapan ang lola ko. Habang nahihirapan siya nauuna akong namamatay sa sakit. Sabi ko, ‘OK na ako Nay, punta ka na sa pupuntahan mo.’ Baka kasi nagwo-worry siya sa akin. Sabi ko kaya ko na ang sarili ko, oras na ito para ituon mo ang atensyon mo sa sarili mo, kung nahihirapan ka anytime you can leave anytime I’m OK. Pero hindi, hindi ko alam kung ano ang pinagkaka-abalahan ng Tagasundo hindi nagpupunta sa bahay namin.”
Vice was also questioned about the “snubbing” issue that happened between him and Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas. I think that his response was well thought out and delivered properly. He admitted that indeed, Ms. Ai-Ai and Vice are going through something and that is the reason why they didn’t acknowledge each other when they were caught snubbing each other at The Manila Peninsula on Christmas day. When asked about the explosive article written by PhilStar Editor Ricky Lo, he simply responded that we cannot judge people specially if we don’t know exactly what is going on between the people involved. Very true, I must say!
Vice then apologized to his fans and other people who were offended by the report. He also stated that he misses the old days when he wasn’t as famous because when you are catapulted to stardom, you are expected to act in a way that they expect you to act. Any deviation from it results in controversies. When asked which life he would choose if given the chance to choose between his famous persona versus the non-famous Vice? He said he will choose the latter because “back then, life was simpler”.
Wow! I think that’s a very honest response.
I wish both Ai-Ai and Vice can mend their differences and move on…. they’re both highly-talented and I would like to see them both in a movie someday…
