Unless you were one of the people who did not pre-order your iPhone 5 from AT&T, you are probably laughing at us right about now. I was one who got sucked into pre-ordering my iPhone 5 (with the hopes that I would be one of the ones to receive my phone on release day, which was September 21st.).
I placed my order on September 14th. When I checked my order status – it said that I placed my order on September 16th. That’s two days after the pre-order date.
I was checking the status daily and they have different places where you can check the status of your order.
If I go to www.wireless.att.com, I get a status of “Processing”. But, when I go to https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status, I get a status of “Back Ordered”.
Not knowing the real status, I tried to chat with one of the agents from their website and this is what I was told:
C****a: We have sold out of the device and are waiting for additional inventory. Unfortunately, we do not have an anticipated delivery date as inventory levels vary from day-to-day. You will receive an e-mail from us when your item has shipped.
In the meantime, I also received an email from AT&T stating the following:
Thank you for your recent purchase from the AT&T Premier Online Store. We’re pleased that you chose AT&T as your service provider.
We wanted to confirm that your order is reserved and will ship in approximately 14 ? 21 business days.
As a reminder, you will receive an email from the AT&T Premier Team confirming shipment along with the carrier information and tracking number to track your shipment online.
I found out that I was not alone. One blogger actually did the same thing I did, and placed his order online but he seemed to have been screwed by doing so as well.
My buddy who didn’t pre-order, walked into an Apple store and got his phone and another one for his partner too. Two iPhone 5!!!! Imagine my discontent right now.
I guess it’s a lesson learned.
