In an effort to eliminate graft and corruption in the Philippines, the government has stood by its promise to prosecute anyone who is found guilty of such charges.
Former President Macapagal Arroyo was arrested for misusing lottery funds for her personal gain. The charge is an offense not bailable and she could face life in prison if convicted.
She is charged of funneling lottery funds in the upwards amount of $8.8 million for personal gain.
The ex-president is currently hospitalized suffering from spine conditions. She is also charged with graft over a $329 million broadband deal with China’s ZTE Corp back in 2007.
