Happy New Year folks!!
Well, it’s another year that just came and went. Life seems to move faster as we grow older. It felt like it was only yesterday when we welcomed 2012 and here we are again, saying goodbye to 2012 and welcoming 2013.
There are many changes that are occurring this year.
- We have the fiscal cliff hanging by the balance. A deal was made around 2:00 a.m. last night, passed through the Senate but still hasn’t passed the House. It may affect our take home pay (depending on your income).
- Gay marriage is now legal in Maryland which took effect today. Many same-sex couples married as soon as the clock struck 12:00 midnight.
- Minimum wage is going up for several states. Did you know that the highest minimum wage is in the state of Washington which is $9.19 per hour. When I first started working, the minimum wage in Maryland was $3.10 per hour.
- Today marks 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation when President Lincoln was signed, abolishing slavery in the United States.
I hope you celebrated New Year’s with a good anticipation of great things to come your way.
