SKYSCANNER

If you are a regular here, you know that I love to travel.  I have traveled a lot in the past few years but I don’t travel extravagantly like other bloggers I know.  I don’t post photos of First-Class seating and well-decked hotel rooms.  I travel but I do it frugally.  Whatever can save me money (depending on the circumstance), would be my first choice.

I use Expedia a lot in searching for cheap vacations.  I have also become addicted to taking cruises.  My problem is air fare these days can cost you an arm and a leg.  Even if you find a great cruise price that leaves out of a port in Europe, you still have to get to the port via air travel.  It’s hard to find the cheapest flight so I usually search Expedia, then Kayak, and if there are no bargains, I usually call my travel agent.

I recently discovered an app called Skyscanner.  It’s an iPhone (iPad) app that lets you put in an origin and destination airport of your choice, choose the date and click SEARCH.  It scans all over 1000 tariffs of airlines and provides you the best possible rate.  You have to be careful though not to choose a flight from Philadelphia to Los Angeles that may cost you $200.00 RT and yet, you’re traveling for 24 hours to get there. I’m exaggerating but you get the point.

So, recently – I made a pact with my college friends that I would meet them in Los Angeles, CA for a mini reunion.  I didn’t know whether I could get a cheap fare because I was only going to spend a weekend there.

I used Skyscanner and VOILA!  I found the best fair via an airline where I have banked miles.  Not only do I get the additional miles from my preferred carrier, I also got a cheap rate.  This way, I can use the additional miles I earned for other international travel (like Paris, France maybe?).

If you have an iPhone or an iPad and love to travel, try Skyscanner.  The company is based in England and therefore, the price you are provided is in UK pounds, but there is a currency converter in the app to let you know how much you are really spending.

I just thought I’d share it…. ENJOY!
