Whether you are walking in the streets of New York City or strolling along to see Big Ben in London, you won’t help but notice the big signs and advertisements for our now world-famous tourism slogan, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines!”
Yes, it’s all over New York City buses and London’s Double Decker Buses – truly advertising globally to encourage increase in tourism for our beloved country. I must say, “It’s about time!”
When I first came to the US, I could hardly see any ads that would encourage Americans to visit our country. I know that we have a beautiful country and while living there, I have met Americans who loved our country but somehow, the word had not gotten around.
Statistically, Americans are the second largest group of tourists who visit the Philippines every year followed by Japanese, Chinese and Australians. Koreans have remained the number one tourist group since 2012. But we need more Europeans to visit our country. Brits rank as the 10th largest group of tourists who visit the Philippines.
With the EU lifting the ban on Philippine Airlines that have been in place since 2010 due to aviation safety concerns, effective on July 12, 2013, it is more likely that Europeans will add a big chunk of tourism revenue into the Philippines in the coming years.
I applaud our Department of Tourism for their aggressive effort in spreading the word about how beautiful and how great our country is. With the surging economy and the rehabilitation of Ninoy Aquino International Airport with the help of world-famous Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue, we are off to a good start.
I say – bring it on! Filipinos will entice you with their hospitality and wonderful smiles. It will keep you coming back for more.
Congratulations Philippine Department of Tourism for a job well done. We’re not done yet but I’m definitely excited for the promise this all brings!
It’s More Fun in the Philippines indeed!!
