Before we found Ricky Martin to be a force behind the LGBT issues surrounding this country and before he came out publicly as a gay man, he used to bully homosexual men. He told GQ Australia, ‘I Would Bully People Who I Knew Were Gay’
He admits that he was bullying gay men because he was thought while growing up in Puerto Rico that it was wrong. He said, “I was very angry, very rebellious. I used to look at gay men and think, I’m not like that, I don’t want to be like that, that’s not me. I was ashamed. “When you’re told you’re wrong by everyone, from society, from your faith — my self-esteem was crushed. I took my anger out on those around me.”
We he fathered two sons through a surrogate, he decided to come out of the closet in 2010 by making a declaration on his website:
“I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.”
Since the, he’s become a strong advocate of the LGBT community and have received an award promoting equality. He is currently partnered with equally handsome economist Carlos González Abella.
