President Benigno S. Aquino III administers the oath of office of former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, the new Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization. — May 6, 2014.
Years ago, when blogging was lucrative for me and I had enough time in my hands to blog two to three times a day, my blog became popular. It was one of those blogs with high SEO rankings from Alexa, and in addition, it was controversial, and influential.
Days that provided some opportunities for me that otherwise I would not have had if I didn’t have a blog. One of those opportunities was meeting Sen. Kiko Pangilinan. I’ve told this story many times before but I don’t seem to get tired in telling it.
A friend of mine knew how much of a fan I was of the one and true Mega Star, Sharon Cuneta. I love 90% of her films ( I have a collection!) and love her music as well.
One afternoon, my friend suggested that if Kiko Pangilinan became President of the Philippines, wouldn’t it be awesome to have Sharon as our First Lady? Since I had no information about then-Sen. Kiko Pangilinan then, I couldn’t campaign for him to run for President. How does anyone campaign for a candidate he doesn’t know?
For fun, I created a video called “Sharon Cuneta for First Lady 2010” and posted it in YouTube.
The video received mixed reviews but more importantly, a lot of criticism for Sen. Pangilinan. I found myself at a loss in defending someone I barely know. That’s how I began to get to know the Senator. I read about him and researched his accomplishments. That’s when I began to see how much he’s done and realized his passion and integrity.
In response to the haters, I created a video soon thereafter entitled, “Sen, Kiko Pangilinan for Pesident 2010“. I posted it on YouTube and responded to critics who had negative comments to say about the Senator.
The rest was history. I met the Senator in person including my idol Ms. Sharon Cuneta because of it on the same day! How lucky was that?
Hearing of Kiko Pangilinan’s retirement from government and concentration in farming, I was saddened. But as they say, things happen for a reason. Because of his knowledge and promotion of agriculture during the time since he retired from public office, he has been tapped by President PNoy Aquino to be the Presidential Assistant For Food Security and Agricultural Modernization. And when Sen. Kiko announced that he is returning to government, I was elated. The time has come!
I don’t know if I will create another video for his presidential bid for 2016 unless he takes Miriam Santiago as his running mate. LOL! We shall see.
