If I have to use my blog to campaign for the next Presidential Candidate for the Philippines in 2016, I would bet all my posts to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago. I have followed her on Facebook and have read up on her credentials. She is one amazing and fierce politician who has no qualms in exposing corruption and facing corrupt politicians head on. She is charismatic, a well-educated and popular person who was once considered the “Iron Lady of Asia” 25-years or so ago. That title alone makes you want to raise her status up to par with the late Prime Minister of Britain, Lady Margaret Thatcher.
I was really hoping that she would run for President in the 2016 Presidential Election in the Philippines. She has the guts, the stamina and the bravery that we have been looking for in a president. I said that if she picks Sen. Kiko Pangilinan for VP, we are ready to roll! I will campaign for that camp until my fingers a blue from typing.
So, the other day, I saw on her Facebook page that she was going to make two announcement in a press conference at 11:00 a.m. MNL time.
Many of her followers on Facebook, including myself, went into a frenzy! Finally, our bet for the presidency in 2016 is going to announce her candidacy. We waited only to be met with heart breaking news. Sen. Miriam Santiago announced that she has cancer on her left lung.
That brought sadness to many of us who follow her on Facebook. Prayers started pouring in. As usual, the Senator doesn’t let things bring her down. She followed her announcement with her usual witty posts, sometimes inspirational and sometimes sharp as nails like her usual self.
Even with that announcement, she didn’t let go of the current issues plaguing our government.
And at times, probably breaking down and getting a bit spiritual knowing that this is out of her control.
But there were also moments of optimism.
The greatest moment is when she exhibits moments of surrender. That it is all in God’s hands.
Whatever the outcome, we support Sen. Miriam Santiago all the way to the presidency. We know that she will come out of this unscathed! We will continue to pray for her and give her words of encouragement. We want her to get well. The Philippines needs her. She will be our President!
Get well soon Senator! We will be waiting for you to recover and run for the highest office in the land!
