Well folks, time does fly. It seems that it takes forever for summer to get here and when it does, it sparks and it’s gone. I haven’t even done much this summer (or should I say, not much with relation to beaches and stuff) and it’s going to be over in a few weeks. I did get to check off a couple of things from my bucket list and I was quite glad about that.
This is the time when I normally get a little bit depressed. Cold weather comes, plants die, tree leaves fall, and gloomy skies replace our bright sunny summer skies. Whenever I get a whiff of that fall scent in the air, the feeling is imminent that summer is over – I get a little emotional.
What i do now is look back at the things that I’ve done this past summer. Usually, I get a full history of my summers right from my cell phone since I capture most of the activities that I do on there. From what I see, it wasn’t a bad summer after all.
Let’s start with my bucket list item – – New Orleans, LA – Mardi Gras
We almost missed our flight. I miscalculated the time it takes me to get to Center City in Philadelphia to pick up my friend and then drive to the airport. On top of picking her up, we had to park at a reduced-rate parking which is a few miles from the airport. I knew we were toast but I didn’t want to say until we really are toast. So glad we made it!
We arrived in New Orleans timely. Good weather. It was the perfect photo opp while we were waiting for another friend to arrive.
I am not going to bore you with a blow-by-blow account of my New Orleans trip. All I want to say is that New Orleans – Mardi Gras is like Las Vegas. What happens here, stays here.
The best bloody mary I even had was in New Orleans. I can’t get over the pickled green beans and okra. it was so complimentary to the spicy bloody mary that I couldn’t stop drinking it. Forget the sodium content. I enjoyed it very much thank you!
And I learned how to peel and eat crawfish. I didn’t know I could ever like crawfish but I did. I had it somewhere else before and hated it – – but this time, give me some crawfish and i’ll stay out of your way.
A buddy from a long time ago (let’s say 8 years ago?) checked in on Facebook and said that he is at Mardi Gras as well! Traced him and here we were!
The best thing we did? Took selfies with strangers! It was the most fascinating experience as any stranger (drunk or not!) was willing to take a selfie with us. It proved to be more fun for them as well!
Done with New Orleans. What happened next you ask?
Well, when Spring comes, we usually have made it a point to visit the Philadelphia Flower show. Just like last year, our friends and colleagues are competitor for the events. Orchids – yes, they compete by raising orchids and showing it off. Not bad for this year, as they both won awards. Tommy took 2nd place and Toby took First, Can’t complain right?
So, from Spring time forward, I have done more. I will be back to give you a glimpse of my life from Spring to Summer. I wish to have it all documented before Summer is over.
Until next time!
