January 30, 2015 was declared by Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III as a National Day of Mourning, asking citizens to offer prayers for the 44 fallen members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force who perished due to a “misencounter” with alleged members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom fighters in Mamasapano, Maguindanao as they chased high-ranking terrorists Zulkifli Abdhir and Basit Usman. All military and public installations were to lower the flags at half-mast in observation, mourning and solidarity with the bereaved families of the fallen members.
While the Vice-President Jejomar Binay was present, alongside Sen Bong Bong Marcos and Former First Lady and Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Romualdez Marcos were present to condole with the bereaved families, it was very obvious that President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino III was missing. The President was apparently attending an opening of a new plant for Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
Social media exploded with their discontent with the President and voiced it on their social media accounts.
