Ahhhh. The magic that Autumn brings…

My mom used to send me dried leaves when she would write me letters from New York while I was studying in the Philippines. She told me about the cold breeze that was starting to settle as Autumn comes near. I have always imagined how beautiful it must be to see the leaves change its colors and wondered when I was going to share that moment with my family again.

Now, that time has come and gone. I’m older now and my mom had passed away years ago. And yet, each time Autumn season comes, I think of her. I remember one day when she and I were talking about the beauty of the foliage as the season changes from Summer to Fall, she exclaimed how majestic God is and how He created the wonderful changes in seasons. As the weather turns from warm to cool, we get just the right amount of rain and the right amount of wind. At times, it will be hot one day and freezing the next. All working in tandem to create the vivid colors of the leaves as its chlorophyll breaks down, its green color disappears and (09) Fall Leaveschanges to vibrant orange, yellow, and brown. It is such a beautiful cycle to see.

It is that time again. As much as I love Fall and the beauty that it brings, it also comes with a different type of joy and a bit of sadness as the days becomes shorter and the air becomes crisp and cold. It is a reminder that nothing stays permanent. Everything is temporary and will soon fade away.

I watched “Still Alice” last night. It was a great movie. I thought Julian Moore was phenomenal in the film and well-deserving of the Best Actress Award for playing Alice. (SPOILER HERE – LEAVE NOW IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE FILM).

Alice was diagnosed with early onset of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 50. That is a very young age for the disease. It turns out that her disease was familial, where the gene is passed on from one family member to the next. It is rare, but it does happen. It results is both long and short-term memory loss and it deteriorates faster than normal. Her life suddenly changed from being an intellectual professor at Columbia University to someone who can’t even remember how to find the bathroom in her own home.

It made me think how fragile we are and how quickly we go through life. We become so busy at times that we forget how to experience the moments that are most important like spending time with family, taking a rest, relaxing, making time for friends, making time for yourself or as simple as getting a good night’s sleep.

I have learned that even though I am not that old, life can change in an instant. If I don’t learn how to cherish these moments now, time could surely creep up on me and who knows? I may never get the chance to do these simple things.

Kaya mga bords, take the time and spend time with your loved ones. Enjoy the moment. Kung hindi ngayon, kailan pa? Pasensiya na kayo at naging senti ako bigla. I am usually like this during this season kaya pasensiya na kayo. Pero totoo naman di ba?

Okay, it’s getting late. I must take my own advice and get enough sleep.

Have a good night everyone! Sleep tight and remember, Today only happens once. You can never get it back. Do the most with it while you can.
