Washington, D.C. Weekend. I love DC!

There was a time when we would go to Washington, D.C. almost every weekend.  You see, I grew up in Maryland and Washington, D.C. was only 45 minutes away from where I used to live.  I met a Pinoy friend from Baltimore who became my best friend for many years.  When he met the love of his life, he moved from Baltimore to the District to be with him.

As expected, he wanted me to visit him in DC.  So I invited a few friends and took them to DC one summer Pride event – and the rest was history.  From New Jersey to Pennsylvania to DC, the Filipinos united as one.  Sometimes, the DC folks will travel and visit us here in Jersey / Philadelphia, and vice versa.

It has been a while since we’ve all been to DC simply because I had a falling out with the best friend and there was really no reason for the “dabarkads” to go and visit.  This time around, one of our DC resident friend was going to celebrate his “ty-sixth” birthday and invited the Philly / Jersey folks to attend. What better reason right?

So, we all planned to go to DC and as it always is, it was a blast.

During our drive on Friday, November 13th, I saw a news brief flash through my iPhone (using my iPhone as navigation as well) about Paris.   The first thing I saw was about a shooting that killed 12 people.  I thought it would have been one of those massacre where a mentally imbalanced person had walked into a place and started shooting.

We really didn’t get the full extent of the news until we got to DC.  Even at that time, we still weren’t sure of what happened.

After realizing that it was a terrorist attack, we were appalled and disgusted.

The next day, to show our solidarity with France, we decided to go to a French restaurant.  Everyone was so friendly and the food was excellent.  If you ever get to DC, go to Le Diplomate.  It is a Stephen Starr Restaurant so you know that you are getting quality meal.  Try the duck.  It was fabulous!
