What do retired people do with their days? I am not officially retired yet. I just took a sabbatical for a couple of months to re-align my future with my goals. I am currently not working and with that, comes boredom. I didn’t really prepare for this so I am just making my days up as I go. It is quite interesting actually.
My first week, I really didn’t know what to do with myself so I took the time to sleep in. I have a dog so I get up to walk him in the morning and then I go back to bed until about noon. I get up to make lunch, I eat and then I watch TV. A lazy bum – pretty much.
On my second week, I realized that I cannot continuously do that or else I would go insane. (Or get fatter that I already am) So, on my second week, I decided to incorporate working out and doing household chores like laundry. But first, I have to have a reason to get up in the morning. What better way to get up in the morning but to attend mass at 8:30 a.m. That didn’t quite work out as planned. I found myself sleeping in and not wanting to go in the morning. I kept my workouts though. I went to the gym even if I only have to do cardio on the treadmill for 3 miles or so. In between, I play Blossom Blast Saga on my phone or iPad.
This is my third week. I think I am finally getting a routine going. I managed to go to church this morning. It was a great feeling when I accomplished that. I also managed to go to the Commission on Elections to change my party affiliation. I used to be a registered Independent and I did that on purpose so I can understand both sides (Republican and Democrat) before I switch. I found myself leaning towards the liberal side and with the Republican party these days, I wouldn’t want to be caught within that party with a 10-foot pole.
So I think I am getting the hang of it. I plan on doing this for the next couple of months until I complete my travel to Europe in April. Then, I will aggressively attack the “want ads” when I return. Right now, the goal is to be fit for my travel and wear fantastic clothes while gallivanting in England, Holland and Czech Republic!
I am fortunate that I have the cushion to take a break without stressing out. Some folks aren’t this lucky so I am thankful. I cannot be stagnant for too long, though. I don’t want to get used to this. I may never return to work at all. 🙂
That’s my update in a nutshell.
I will post more information once I get the hang of this new lifestyle.
Until next time…
