I may land the job that I want. Crossing my fingers. #jobseekers

I have been casually searching for a job since I took my early retirement back in February. I say casually because I have not fully engaged myself in updating my resume to the best that it can be or learning how to write excellent cover letters for potential positions that I want to apply for. If I see something that I like, I will send a resume in and fill out the application.

So far, I have been fortunate. I have already received three interviews and although the first two did not amount to anything, I am told by my career coach that getting an interview is a good sign. It means that my resume is attracting potential employers and are willing to take the time to speak to me.

To job seekers out there, a career coach is something that is available for you out there. If you cannot afford the fee of $100 – 350 per hour fee, look into your community centers and non-profit organizations around you for assistance. I surely cannot afford one so I got one through a community center. The person I was referred to reviewed my resume, did mock interviews with me and showed me how to make my cover letters more presentable and easy to read. It is definitely worth it.

In any case, I had an interview last week and the interview was by phone. It goes to show how important networking is when it comes to anything specially when you are looking for a job.

Prior to the interview, I looked up the person who is going to interview me on LinkedIn. If you don’t know what LinkedIn is, you should stop reading now and research it, create a profile and get started. Anyway, I found out that the Vice President is someone who worked for a company that my previous organization dealt with on a project that I was on. I was pretty familiar with the company so I thought it would be a good ice breaker for the interview.

Long story short, I thought the interview went well. In closing, he told me that he would like to move forward and get me on a face-to-face interview with his colleagues. That was what I wanted to hear.

Yesterday, I received a call from the recruiter who referred this job to me and told me that a schedule had been set. I am going for my face-to-face interview next week! It is time to get serious because this is a job that I would like to get. Everything is perfect and I hope that I can present myself well.

I will keep you all posted!

Until next time…
